SUPPLEMENT TO THE RACING CALENDAR MAY 25th 2017 1 ....................................................................................................................................................................................................... ANGLO-IRISH JUMP CLASSIFICATIONS 2016-2017 This is the eighteenth full Anglo-Irish Jump Classification. It classifies the best steeplechasers and hurdlers that were trained in either Britain or Ireland during the 2016-2017 season, or in France if that performance was achieved in Britain or Ireland. It is not a handicap but a retrospective measurement of best sustainable performances during the recent season so there may be differences from current handicap marks. The classifications are for all chasers and hurdlers down to a rating of 140. The steeplechasers are divided into distance categories of 2 miles to 2 miles 2.5 furlongs, 2 miles 3 furlongs to 2 miles 6.5 furlongs and 2 miles 7 furlongs plus. They are included in the list in which the handicappers believe they have put up their best performance. The hurdle categories are similar except that they are divided into two distances of 2 miles to 2 miles 2.5 furlongs and 2 miles 3 furlongs plus. There is a separate classification identifying Novices rated 140 and above. Juvenile Hurdlers are included in the Novice section. Horses trained in Ireland have * appended after their name. Horses trained in France but have a performance at 140+ in Great Britain or Ireland have ** appended after their name. Mares are in italics. The ratings were agreed

  • The Card, She Is Trained by Gordon Elliott
the Weekend card The Sleeper Section Marten Julian Ifubelieveindreams (2yr Bay Filly) This daughter of Iffraaj missed the break and was a little keen towards the rear of the field on her racecourse debut at Lingfield. She then came back on the bridle and was travelling well on the final turn only to run into trouble and find herself tightened up on the rails. But for that she would have made the first three. From her pedigree and the evidence from this run she will be well suited to a mile. No immediate entries Just Minded (5yr Bay Gelding) 3rd 7/1, 3rd 11/10 Just Minded probably didn’t handle the heavy ground when third to De Dollar Man last time out at Ayr. The son of Kayf Tara won his bumper on good ground and then ran a promising third at Wetherby on ground given as good to soft. All that apart, Just Minded probably came up against a decent horse in the winner and I want us to stay with him for one more run hopefully on better ground. He may be one to keep in mind for the spring, perhaps at Aintree. No immediate entries Molly Carew (5yr Bay Mare) WON 33/1 Judging by the market weakness there did not seem to be much confidence behind Molly Carew when she won at Lingfield but it was evident from an early stage that she was travelling comfortably and going just as well as the long odds-on favourite between the last two. Having seen the way she quickened from the home bend before fading the time before at Plumpton I was very hopeful that she would find enough on the run-in to beat the favourite.

  • Welcome to the March 2014 Edition of the Monthly Newsletter from Donn Mcclean Racing
Welcome to the March 2014 edition of the monthly newsletter from Donn McClean Racing. Looking ahead March is for Cheltenham, when the wider world gathers around to peer into racing’s little cocoon for four days. For those already in the cocoon, it is spellbinding. If the National Hunt Chase or the Grand Annual Chase were to be run on any ordinary Saturday during the year, it would be the feature race of the day, of the week. However, because they are run during the Cheltenham Festival, they are mere bit-part players, competing for attention, as they do, with the Champion Hurdle and the Gold Cup. Think Hurricane Fly and Our Conor and The New One and Jezki. Think Bobs Worth and Silviniaco Conti and Last Instalment. Think all of the best National Hunt horses in the world assembled together beneath Cleeve Hill and competing against each other in a series of races that will determine the champion in each discipline. The Olympics of National Hunt racing. That’s the Cheltenham Festival, and it starts tomorrow. Ante post portfolio Private Clients of Donn McClean Racing have been steadily building up an ante post portfolio for the Cheltenham Festival since last December. The portfolio regrettably includes a sprinkling of non- runners – such is the nature of these things – but clients have also backed several horses who are a lot shorter in the market now than they were when they backed them. An interesting – and hopefully an enjoyable and profitable – week lies in store. Looking back Private Clients made a small profit in February, with Harry Topper (advised at 7/2), Guitar Pete (advised at 6/1) and O’Faolains Boy (advised at 7/1) all winning, and Cheltenian (advised each-way at 10/1), Lough Ba (advised each-way at 14/1), Nuts N Bolts (advised each-way at 16/1) and Ballypatrick (advised each- way at 20/1) all finishing placed.

  • January 2014 Edition of the Monthly Newsletter from Donn Mcclean Racing
Welcome to the January 2014 edition of the monthly newsletter from Donn McClean Racing. Looking ahead We are into the depths of winter racing now with its hock-deep ground and its course inspections. (Time to start following the Venetia Williams horses then, and the progeny of Whipper.) As long as racing passes those inspections, we are in for some top- class racing this month. This weekend features the Classic Chase at Warwick, the Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown, and the Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton, accompanied, as it is this year, by the Tolworth Hurdle, re-routed from abandoned Sandown last Saturday. No Sprinter Sacre in the Clarence House Chase (you might know it better as the Victor Chandler) at Ascot on 18th January, but the race could be all the more intriguing as a contest for his absence, while the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock on the same day may not be what it used to be, but it is still the Peter Marsh Chase. Then it is on to Gowran Park for the Thyestes Chase on 23rd, before the final weekend of the month brings with it the Argento Chase at Cheltenham on 25th and the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on 26th, for which all three big guns – Hurricane Fly, Jezki and Our Conor – are reportedly on track. Horses To Follow Several horses who have been noted as Horses To Follow are set to run this month. Sandown winner Deep Trouble holds an entry in both the Tolworth Hurdle and the two-mile handicap hurdle at Kempton on Saturday.
