Section

Submit a video of your performance of the following elements (or separate video files for each element). You may practice each element as much as you like before recording your , and you can record as many times as you like, but please only submit one unedited video in one continuous take for each element listed below. If you are unable to perform one or more of the elements listed below, partial audition submissions are happily accepted. Please feel free to email Nikki Malley (​[email protected]​) if you have any questions about the audition requirements. Audition materials may be uploaded to the Instrumental Interest and Audition form, or you may email audition recordings to Nikki Malley (please include your name and instrument in the subject line).

All audition materials must be submitted no later than Friday, September 18 at 4:00pm.

Required Elements

Guitar, , and Vibraphone 1. Perform the following Major scales, ascending and descending (1 octave is fine, 2 octaves would be even better!): a. F major b. Bb major c. D major 2. Perform a solo piece of your choice that you feel demonstrates your technical, stylistic, and overall musical abilities. Your piece can be in either the classical or style. You can play an excerpt rather than the full piece (at least 16 measures in length), or you can play your part, or an excerpt from, a piece you have played in an ensemble ( , , , etc.). You may also play an excerpt where you are (playing chords only) to demonstrate your chord reading and rhythmic style.​If you choose to demonstrate your comping style, you may play unaccompanied or with a play-along track of your choosing. If using a play-along track,, please record yourself in real time playing over the track such that both you and the play-along track are audible in the recording.

Bass 1. Perform the following Major scales, ascending and descending (1 octave is fine, 2 octaves would be even better!): a. F major b. Bb major c. D major 2. Perform a solo piece of your choice that you feel demonstrates your technical, stylistic, and overall musical abilities. Your piece can be in either the classical or jazz style. You can play an excerpt rather than the full piece (at least 16 measures in 3. length), or you can play your part, or an excerpt from, a piece you have played in an ensemble (concert band, jazz band, orchestra, etc.). 4. If possible, please submit an example of you walking a line. This can be from a written part in a piece you have played for band in the past, or a bass line you create to accompany a jazz standard, or you can walk a bass line to the F (please play along to the linked below in the optional elements section, or walk a blues bass line for 3 unaccompanied).

Drums 1. Play at least three of the following feels for a minimum of 60 seconds: a. Medium swing b. /Fast swing c. Slow/ballad swing with brushes (2-feel or 4-feel) d. Latin in any tempo (your choice - Mambo, Cha-Cha, Bolero, Afro-Cuban, etc.) e. in any tempo f. Rock in any tempo g. or Street Beat/Second Line in any tempo h. Jazz Waltz in medium tempo

Optional Elements: Jazz You may submit recordings of one or both of the optional elements below, or you may elect not to submit any optional elements. These elements help us determine who has experience with jazzy style and and who might be interested in improv solo opportunities in jazz ensembles. If you do not have improvisation experience, do not worry: submission of optional elements is not required and will not keep you from gaining a position in a jazz ensemble.

1. Improvisation: Play 3 choruses of the Blues in concert F major either with the backing track linked below or solo, unaccompanied.
