Golf:The A “MentalGame for FunGame and forof LifeGolf” any golfers develop a basic golf swing and spend many hours trying to perfect it but the swing is only a part of the game. M If you really want to enjoy golf, spend an equal amount of time on the short game as you do hitting balls at the driving range.

There are bunker, pitching, chipping and putting shots. Each of these types of shots has many variables which can make practising them interesting and fun.

Start wwith putting and learn to swing the putter. If you can llearnearn tto have reasonable aim at the hole and develop good ddistanceistan control, you will be a good putter.

TThenhen learn to swing the clubs to chip the ball. It is good to learlearnn to chip with all of your clubs.

NeNext,x we move on to learning to swing the wedges. There aarere four types of wedges in your bag such as pitching wewedge,d approach wedge, sand wedge and lob wedge.

TrTryy to be creative and practise every shot that you can ththink of.

PlPlay games with your friends while you are practising. HHit long as well as short putts and chips. Hit low shots wwith those wedges as well as high shots.

Go into tthehe bbunkerunker aand practise uphill, downhill and side hill lies. Step on the ball and learn hohow to hit a plugged ball. Sometimes you can get a fried egg in the bunker. Practise hitting those shots and if you don’t know what a fried egg lie is, look for me and I will show you.

As you practise hitting balls, practise shaping shots. Hooks, slices, fades, draws, high and low. Imagine a shot that is most diffi cult on the golf course and see if you can hit it on the range.

But mostly remember, keep a good attitude and always remember the fun part!

Stones in Golf101 Bunker

Stones are, by defi nition, loose impediments.

When a player’s ball is in a hazard, a stone lying in or touching the hazard may not be touched or moved under Rule 13-4c.

However, stones in the bunker may pose a danger to fellow golfers when struck by players during the course of the game.

In view of the above, the following local rule applies to playing golf at NSRCC.

Scenario: A golf ball lands next to a stone and interferes with play
