When it comes down to this small group of photographers, Vuh is one of them. He mostly shoots stunning shots of everyday ghetto life. Lots of guns, smoke and cars. But most importantly lots of emotion. He takes fotos of all sorts of stuff. But in both cases, Vuh always tries to de- pict his current feeling at the location of the shot in his photos. People weren’t expecting a new album just yet, as Frank had just left Def Jam. But then, arguably the biggest fi- nesse in music industry hap- pened. Frank had definitely outplayed Def Jam. As he re- leased his long awaited, se- cond studio album “Blonde” later that day. And it was an instant smash hit, which even peaked as number one al- bum. Including fan favorites Nikes, Ivy, Solo and Nights, most fans consider it Frank at his finest. Fans loved the album and where satisfied for the time being. Despite the succes of the album, the- re wasn’t any blonde tour. Wether this is because Frank likes to keep things on a down low, or just likes to keep a mysterious twist to his character is unknown. 12 What whe know is that when he turns up somewhere, it’s most times unexpected. Most times he is spotted at fashion shows or just doing his thing outside, like casually doing a backflip in the citypark. And the fact that Frank doesn’t preform a lot and doesn’t do a lot of interviews is what makes his appearances so special. In 2017, he released 3 singles. Chanel (discussing his bi-sexuality), biking (a track with hov in the intro and a Ty- ler Verse) and lens. He also appeared on a few tracks on Tyler, The Creators “Flower Boy”. On the 22nd of July, Frank ap- peared at FYF festival, and gave the crowds one hell of a show. A real strong ambience could be felt during his performeran- ce. Because of Franks incredible live voice. The year after, we got the single “Moon River” and this was the only music we would recieve from him for a while. Furthermore, Frank has made appearances in GQ , Dazed and Gayletter. He also took some shots at met gala, which can be found on the internet. He currently lives in New York City and every now and then he posts on his IG page (which has been turned into a public one earlier this year). But when new music is going to be released is not sure. It could be tomorrow, or in a month, maybe in a few years or just as you’re reading this. That’s the risk of being a Frank fan, you never know what you get and when you get it. But when it drops, It’s almost guaranteed that it’s going to be great. 13 Via: blonded on IG 14 15 Bape x Ghostbusters; Ghostbusters 35th anniversary Shoes: $184 Tee: $50 Beautiful, ugly tees Playboi Carti rocking an electrified shirt, and so- me type of skeleton py- jama shit everyone used to have as a kid. A former member of SpaceGhostPurrp's Raider Klan , Denzel Curry is one of the precursors of the new generation of electro coming out of Florida. Now joined by such wild men as Smokepurrp, Ski Mask Da Slump God or the late XXXTentacion, Denzel has created a complex mix, which has been much-covered by his peers. To sum it up, his music is a mixture of very technical rap in the tradition of Memphis and the Three 6 Mafia and a rather more elevated psychedelic tendency taken from Outkast and the Dungeon Family. A pure product of the SoundCloud generation, he made waves with Nostalgic 64 (2013) and then Imperial (2016). At the age of just 23, Denzel Curry shows a disarming maturity and an unflagging versatility on TA13oo , his most ambitious album to date. TA13OO. The South Florida rapper carves out his own lane within the genre known as SoundCloud rap, displaying considerable versatility as he channels the pain and confusion of youth. Featured Tracks: In the chaotic arena that is SoundCloud rap, Denzel Curry has etched out his own distinct realm. Presumably he doesn’t mind being tagged as a SoundCloud rapper, as murky and hard to define as that term is. It was just in May that Curry went to the mattresses to uphold his version of the genre’s history, using Twitter and interviews to torpedo Smokepurpp’s claim to have fathered the movement.

Some artists may glorify that, but other artists either decry it or offer it as a tragic reality. In hip-hop trends build off of music and music builds off of trends in a cyclical manner.

The decision, made by second-year Superintendent Barb Dill-Varga, came as a shock to CHS faculty. Lopez has requested reassignment within the school district. Though Lopez says he could not provide staff with an ex- planation for why his position at the high school was terminated, Dill-Varga cites the reason for Lopez’s removal from his position as a need for a “fresh perspective” at CHS, which she hopes to take in a “new direction.” “The District is grateful to Mr. Lopez for the hard work he has done to help CHS attain many achievements over the past 10 years,” Dill-Varga wrote in a media release sent out Jan. 25. The statement announced the district’s search for a new principal, set photo by PETER ELLISON to begin in early February and conclude in April. The CHS principal is able to say little more than Dill-Varga Senior Robert Mowry coaches his team of first and second grade students during a about the reasons given for his reassignment. “The district has chosen to go a different direction for the Sunday morning practice. • From Translation to Adaptation: Chinese Language Texts and Early Modern Japanese Literature
From Translation to Adaptation: Chinese Language Texts and Early Modern Japanese Literature Nan Ma Hartmann Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2014 © 2014 Nan Ma Hartmann All rights reserved ABSTRACT From Translation to Adaptation: Chinese Language Texts and Early Modern Japanese Literature Nan Ma Hartmann This dissertation examines the reception of Chinese language and literature during Tokugawa period Japan, highlighting the importation of vernacular Chinese, the transformation of literary styles, and the translation of narrative fiction. By analyzing the social and linguistic influences of the reception and adaptation of Chinese vernacular fiction, I hope to improve our understanding of genre development and linguistic diversification in early modern Japanese literature. This dissertation historically and linguistically contextualizes the vernacularization movements and adaptations of Chinese texts in the seventeenth to eighteenth centuries, showing how literary importation and localization were essential stimulants and also a paradigmatic shift that generated new platforms for Japanese literature. Chapter 1 places the early introduction of vernacular Chinese language in its social and cultural contexts, focusing on its route of propagation from the Nagasaki translator community to literati and scholars in Edo, and its elevation from a utilitarian language to an object of literary and political interest. Central figures include Okajima Kazan (1674-1728) and Ogyû Sorai (1666-1728). Chapter 2 continues the discussion of the popularization of vernacular Chinese among elite intellectuals, represented by the Ken’en School of scholars and their Chinese study group, “the Translation Society.” This chapter discusses the methodology of the study of Chinese by surveying a number of primers and dictionaries compiled for reading vernacular Chinese and comparing such material with methodologies for reading classical Chinese.

Maybe I should be spilling my life story to a stranger watching a clock, but I'd rather talk through music. You bring the audience along this journey where you both walk the line of not knowing what's real and what's fake. The duality of the American Dream. Everyone thinks I'm morally righteous because of a few headlines. Duality. Call your dad and tell him how he made you feel, Ian. This is the sweet spot between self discovery and celebration. The space beneath the circuit board of emotion. This is ARIZONA baby. Today, Kevin Abstract is releasing three new songs with his new project ARIZONA baby. The release includes the previously teased "Big Wheels" and "Georgia," which arrived with a music video last night, as well as the never-before heard track "Joy Ride." Produced by Jack Antonoff and Romil Hemnani, these three songs find Kevin embarking on a sonic journey of self-discovery in real-time, reflecting on the events of the past few years and confronting the reality of where he sees himself fitting into the American narrative. On Monday, Abstract cryptically teased what appears to be three release dates for ARIZONA baby on social media. ARIZONA baby is the first solo material from Abstract since his 2017 sophomore album American Boyfriend and the first new BROCKHAMPTON material after their relentless two-year run in which they released 4 albums and signed with RCA Records.

Oregon Undergraduate Research Journal 13.1 (2018) ISSN: 2160-617X (online) blogs.uoregon.edu/ourj Spitting Bars and Subverting Heteronormativity: An Analysis of Frank Ocean and Tyler, the Creator’s Departures from Heteronormativity, Traditional Concepts of Masculinity, and the Gender Binary Lizzy Elkins*, International Studies and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies ABSTRACT This paper seeks to investigate an emerging movement of rap and pop artists who actively subvert structures of the gender binary and heteronormativity through their music. The main artists considered in this research are pop/rap/R&B artist Frank Ocean and rap artist Tyler, the Creator, both of whom have claimed fame relatively recently. Artists like Ocean and Tyler make intentional departures from heteronormativity and the gender binary, combat concepts such as ‘toxic masculinity’, and hint at the possibilities for normalization and destigmatization of straying from the gender binary through lyrics, metaphysical expressions, physical embodiments of gender, expression of fluid/non-heteronormative sexualities, and disregard for labels in their sexual and gendered identities. I will discuss the history and context around music as an agent for social change and address privileging of the black heterosexual cisgender man as the central voice to pop/rap/R&B in the following research. This project will draw on Beauvoirian philosophy regarding gender as well as contemporary sources of media like Genius, record sale statistics, and album lyrics. By illustrating and evaluating how these artists subvert traditional concepts of gender and sexuality, I hope to also shine a light on how their music, which reaches millions of people who are less aware of or accepting of gayness, catalyzes social change and is significant in this current political moment, which is an era of increasing public tolerance of queer ideas and less binary gender expression.
