Pirate Portraits A self portrait is a piece of art that an artist makes of themselves. You are going to imagine you are a pirate and create a pirate self portrait! Try to fill the whole page with your art. You can make the portrait a view of your head and shoulders or of your whole body. If you are creating a self portrait that is your head, neck and shoulders try this. First, create a large oval for your head. Then, at the bottom of the oval, add two lines extending almost to the end of the page for your neck. You can then add two sloping lines for your shoulders. Don’t forget to add details like an patch, bandana, hook hand, striped shirt, and more!

Treasure Map Pirate Costume Creation Create a map to your hidden treasure! Grab what you can to create your Draw out the map on the paper of a own pirate costume! Indoor Obstacle Course Create a pirate indoor obstacle course using materials from around your house! Get through all of the obstacles to find the hidden treasure!

Cannonball Toss Arrange baskets or boxes in various locations and toss rolled up sock cannon- balls. Score 3 in each basket to move on!

Captain’s Coming For this classic camp game you can have one other person be the Captain, or you can practice the orders on your own! As the Captain calls out orders you complete them as quick as possible. Here are the orders:

Seasick: Pretend to be throw up Seagull: Duck and cover your head Jellyfish: Lay on your back and shake your Pirates: Cover one eye, make a hook with arms and legs in the air one hand and walk around like you have Mermaid: Sit on the ground with both legs a peg leg yelling, "ARRGGHHHH!” Climb out to one side, one hand on hip, waving the Rigging: Pretend to climb a ladder and say, “hey sailor” really fast Swab the Deck: Whistle, pretend to mop Row Boat: Sit and pretend to row, Beached Whale: Lay on the ground and singing Row, Row, Row your boat make loud, obnoxious whale noises. Use different building materials around your house to complete the challenges below. Try using LEGO, blocks, natural materials like sticks and rocks and anything else you can think of!

Tinfoil Pirate Boats Grab some tinfoil! Use the tinfoil—and only tinfoil—to create a floating pirate boat! Test out your boats strength and durability on the water by placing it in a puddle or tub of water. Fill the boat slowly with pennies (or other small objects like rocks, LEGO or small toys.) Count how many pennies your first boat can hold and record that. Then, try again, this time improving your design to hold more pennies!

Why Did Pirates Wear ? Have you ever walked out of a dark place into a sunny area? Pirates had to move from above and below the decks of the ships frequently, from daylight to basically darkness. They wore an eyepatch so that one eye was ready to see in the darker room.

Pirate Battleship This game of Pirate Battleship can be played with 2 A B C players. Draw your ships anywhere on your map. When 1 each player is ready, call out your coordinates to take a 2 shot at the other players. If you hit someone, color in that square with red. If it is a miss, color it in black. 3 B3 When you destroy all of the other players ships, you win! Print out the player boards on the next pages. Practicing mindfulness means that you are giving something your full attention. It is an opportunity to slow down and notice what you’re doing. Being mindful is the opposite of rushing and multitasking. 5-4-3-2-1 Activity: Find a place to sit and relax your body. Without talking or moving around do the following…

Count 5 things you can see. Be specific. For example, this cup, that picture, my fish, etc...

Count 4 things you can feel. Maybe it is the wind blowing on your face, the carpet on your hands or your sweatshirt on your neck.

Count 3 things you can hear. It could be someone talking in the next room, cars driving past your house or birds chirping outside.

Count 2 things that you can smell. Is it the laundry detergent on your clothes, the smell of fresh cut grass or the smell of your hair after a bath?

Count 1 thing you can taste. It could be your mint from brushing your teeth, the flavor from your chewing gum or the taste from your latest snack.

Heart Rate Activity: Get moving and do jumping jacks for at least 1 minute! Time it! Ready…. GO! Now, find a place to sit and relax. Find your pulse either on the inside of your wrist or on the side of your neck. Close your and focus on your heart rate. Count how many times your heart beats for 1 minute.
