COUNTDOWN Conds Faster Than Their Regular Times, They Could Be in Contention for an All-Ohio Status November 2, 2012 Volume 79, Issue 5 Cross Country State Preview Inside this issue: By: Dylan Gasche Hot or Not 2 The lady’s cross country team, along with Joe Seedorf and Cameron Weaks, will be participating in the 2012 OHSAA State Meet on Saturday. The meet will be held at the National Mystery Person 3 Trail Raceway which is normally used for a drag racing strip. This meet will be featuring the Sports 4 best running talent that Ohio has to offer. In the Division III girls race, Sarah Kanney of Coldwater and Delainey Phelps of Toledo Christian will be in contention with our own Brittany Singles Corner 7 Atkinson for the individual title. Brittany Atkinson, Kelly Haubert, and Paige Chamberlin will be trying to retain their All-Ohio Status. “We are going to tear it up,” said Junior, Paige Cham- Couples Corner 7 berlin. Confidence is going to be a big factor when going up against teams like Coldwater, Gilmour Academy, and Minster. which are Minster, Coldwater, Gilmour Academy, and Liber- 8-9 Senior Spotlight ty Center. One thing is for sure our girls will put up a fight. On the boys side Joe Seedorf and Cameron Weaks will be racing in the state meet. They gained this opportunity by placing in the top 16 individually at regionals. The talent that they will be facing at state is right in their wheelhouse. All By: Katie Gilson they would need to run is around a 16:35 to a 16:30 or better. These two boys have put the time and effort in practice just for this moment. It will be very interesting to see what they can do against the talent they will be facing. 4 Days– Election Day Anyone who wants to come support the cross country program at state is encouraged 9 Days– Veterans Day to come. They boys will be racing at 11A.M on Saturday and the girls will be racing the same day at 1:30 P.M. Good luck to the Liberty Center Cross Country Program down at state! 20 Days– Thanksgiving Break 21 Days– Thanksgiving 50 Days– End of Mayan Calendar Big Weekend for Tigers 54 Days– CHRISTMAS By: Kody Snyder 61 Days– 2013! On Saturday evening, the Liberty Center Tiger football team will take on Findlay Liberty Benton at Donnell Stadium in Findlay, Ohio, in the first round of the Division V State Playoffs. This matchup will feature two physical offensive styles. The Tigers (8-2) are led by senior running back Sean Westhoven, who has carried the ball 205 times for 1,269 yards on the year. The Eagles (9-1) are led by Mr.Everything, senior quarterback Mitch Linhart, who has 1,428 yards passing and 863 yards rushing. Linhart has accounted for 29 total touchdowns this season. The first meeting between these playoff regulars will start at 7:00 PM Saturday night. What's up By: Jared Bare Last week the Liberty Center Quiz Team’s match was featured on Channel 24. They came up short but put up a good fight. The football team routed the Streaks in a Friday night showdown in Tiger Stadium. The final score was 41-21 and the win shot the Tigers into the playoffs. They will play Liberty Benton next Saturday, the location is still to be determined. The Tigers finished the regular season 8-2 with tough losses to Patrick Henry and Bryan. They are excited for Saturday and are going to try to go on a playoff run. The girls cross country team is headed to state. They finished second at regionals and will be com- peting for a second state title in as many years. The boys team didn’t make it, but Joe Seedorf and Camer- on Weaks made it individually. Joe finished 14th while Cameron came in right behind him in 15th. They will race in Columbus this weekend and would love any support they can get. In other news, the girls basketball team started up official practice last Friday, the boys team will start this Friday. Both teams are excited to get started and are looking forward to successful seasons. It isn’t basketball season yet so good luck to the football team tomorrow as well as the cross country run- ners. Go Tigers, and keep it classy LC. Page 4 Tiger Tales Sports Tigers Stomp Streaks By: Kody Snyder On Friday, October 27th, the Liberty Center Tigers hosted the Archbold Blue Streaks. For the Tigers, this game meant a shot at making the playoffs. For the Blue Streaks, winning meant hosting a home playoff game. LC came ready to play, and showed Archbold how to play power football. Archbold struck first, scoring on an 11 yard touchdown run. However, the Tigers would not look back from there, scoring 35 unan- swered points, and forcing three Archbold turnovers. All of this oc- curred en route to a 41-21 Tiger victory. Sean Westhoven and Anthony Righi had two touchdowns, while Kaleb Pohlman and Jimmy Spieth each caught a touchdown. This victory secures a spot in the playoffs Photo Courtesy of: Tammi Armbrecht for the Tigers. This will mark LC’s 16th playoff appearance, and the second straight playoff appearance for the Tigers. Cross Country By: Dylan Gasche The Cross Country team was at the Tiffin Regionals held at Hedges-Boyer Park on Saturday. It was a cold and rainy Saturday with the course conditions being very sloppy. Joe Seedorf and Cameron Weaks will be head- ing to state individually while, the entire girl’s team will be on their way to state. The girls team will be up against state powerhouses like Minster and Coldwater. Seedorf and Weaks will also have their hands full. Brittany Atkinson was the first one in for the Tigers with a third place finish. Kelly Haubert followed with a ninth place finish. Paige Chamberlin and Olivia Kundo were very close finishing 15th and 16th. Rachel Pinson was next with a 31st place finish. Sara Knapp and Hanna Knapp rounded out the pack with an 82nd and 88th place fin- ish. Joe Seedorf and Cameron Weaks led the boys with impressive 14th and 15th place finishes. Kyle Nash and Jason Hadley ended up with 78th and 88th place finishes. Matt Baker and Matt Huber finished around the same time with 90th and 92nd place finishes. Vince Pinson was the last one in for the boys with a 115th place fin- ish. The boys raced valiantly ,but it was not enough as they needed a fourth place finish to move on to state. The previous weekend, the running Tigers ran at their home course of Widewater. The boys ended up with a fourth place finish while the girls finished first. Come support the Tigers at the Ohio State High School Division III Boys and Girls cross country meet at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio on Saturday, October 30th, 2012. This state meet will be a very good one featuring some of the best runners in the state, so come enjoy yourself and support our cross country team! For the purpose of this rule only, the following definitions apply: (1) “Accredited college or university” means accreditation by accrediting agencies and associations that are recognized by the United States Secretary of Education. (2) “Additional portion of food” means one (1) extra helping of food. (3) “Administrator” means the person who is responsible for personnel, purchasing, fiscal, and maintenance of the child care center. GROOTJEN Abstract In the field of Music Information Retrieval, studies on Hit Song Science are becoming more and more popular. The concept of predicting whether a song has the potential to become a hit song is an interesting challenge. This paper describes my research on how hit song predictors can be utilized to predict hit songs. Three subject groups of predictors were gathered from the Last.fm service, based on a selection of past hit songs from the record charts. By gathering new data from these predictors and using a term frequency-inversed document frequency algorithm on their listened tracks, I was able to determine which songs had the potential to become a hit song. The results showed that the predictors have a better sense on listening to potential hit songs in comparison to their corresponding control groups. While the team got next to nothing from the bottom of the order, the second through fifth spots in the lineup — occupied by Alex Verdugo, J.D. Martinez, Xander Bogaerts, and Rafael Devers — represented an often insurmountable obstacle for opposing pitchers. Yet as the Red Sox zoomed to the top of the standings, an unasked question loomed beneath the surface: What might happen if the Fearsome Foursome faltered? Now, the question has been asked — and the Sox have found the answer disconcerting. On Wednesday night, with the heart of the order failing to capitalize on tantalizing opportunities, the Red Sox continued their offensive skid in a 4-1 loss to the A’s at Fenway. The Sox have lost three straight, totaling four runs in those contests.
