In 1800, the Provincial Academy of Arts and Science became the College of New Brunswick. King's College was established at Fredericton, New Brunswick in 1828 under the control of the Church of England. King's College offered the first engineering course taught at a Canadian university in 1854. In 1858 it was made non-sectarian under the designation of the University of New Brunswick. In 1859, it became the non- denominational University of New Brunswick. The governance of UNB was modeled on the provincial University of Toronto Act of 1906 which established a bicameral system of university government consisting of a senate (faculty) responsible for academic policy, and a board of governors (citizens) exercising exclusive control over financial policy and having formal authority in all other matters.

    17 janvier 2019 – Times & Transcript Aigles Bleus crushed by powerful UNB Reds TIMES & TRANSCRIPT The University of New Brunswick Reds are the top-ranked team in all of Canadian university men’s hockey. The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus found out why on Wednesday. The Reds scored four first-period goals en route to crushing the visiting Aigles Bleus 10-0 in an Atlantic University Sport conference game at the Aitken University Centre in Fredericton. UNB, which improved its conference-leading record to 19-1-3, was coming off its first regulation time loss of the season in its previous game. Kris Bennett scored a power-play goal at 8:45 of the first period and Matthew Boucher struck with a short-handed marker five minutes later to get the Reds off and running. They never slowed down. The Reds got back-to-back goals from Mark Rassell and Joe Gatenby just 29 seconds apart late in the first period, and the rout was on. They added four goals in the second period and completed the evening with two more in the third. UNB outshot Moncton 52-17. The Aigles Bleus - tied with the St. Francis Xavier X-Men for third place in the AUS and winners of three of their previous four games - slipped to 11-9-3 on the season. Moncton, which beat UNB in a shootout on home ice in the first semester, hasn’t won at the Aitken University Centre since October, 2012. “We need to forget this game quickly,” dejected Aigles Bleus head coach Judes Vallée said following the game.

North Side Elementary School Night Saturday, February 9th vs. Dalhousie Tigers - 7pm at the Aitken Centre The UNB REDS look forward to hosting your students and staff again this season. This event is a highlight of the year for our student athletes. They very much appreciate the Elementary School night with all the kids and the excitement they bring to the game. 1. Parents are now responsible to pick up their child’s complimentary ticket and purchase their own through the UNB box office. Each student MUST have a game ticket. Each school has been assigned a section by the box office. When parents purchase their tickets, they will just need to mention which school they are from. 2. Parents of students will receive half price admission of $6, which will also be honored on game night this year. Although, parents are encouraged to pick up their tickets by 4pm on Friday, February 8th at the box office. If parents wait until game night they could arrive and find out the game is sold out. We cannot make the half-price ticket available on line as it is only valid for North Side Elementary School parents and the ticketing system is unable to differentiate them from other fans. 3. The Aitken Centre box office is open 11:00am to 4:00pm weekdays for ticket purchases.

    2019 November 30th ​ th 39 ​ Annual ​ Dinner & Auction $5,500 CASH PRIZES www.fsinb.ca FREDERICTON SPORTS INVESTMENT- A Short History Fredericton Sports Investment started as a group of local hockey supporters who banded together to operate the Fredericton Jr. Red Wings in the New Brunswick Jr. B Hockey League in 1981. The major fundraising initiative was an auction at which the public could bid on various items donated by local merchants. After only two years the league folded, but FSI continued its annual fundraising activities, with the proceeds going to support “minor hockey and other young athletes and teams”. The format was changed to a Dinner/Auction in 1990, and for several years, highlighted by a “name” guest speaker. Gross revenues steadily increased from about $10,000 in that first year, to $45,000 in 1991, $105,000 in 2001, $230,000 in 2011, and a record $280,000 in 2016. From the 38 auctions, FSI has returned over $4.25 million to this community. While most of the funds are distributed to hockey players and teams, during the last decade FSI has made over 500 grants in 45 sports other than hockey. FSI administers two special endowment funds – The Timmy Munn Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Timmy Munn Needy Kids Fund. The former provides financial support for first year university students, while the latter, via the Brendon Oreto Foundation, provides funds for kids who cannot afford to play their sport. Both funds are in memory of deceased hockey player Timmy Munn, and were established from the sales of a series of limited edition hockey prints donated to FSI by Tim’s mother, celebrated artist Catherine Karnes Munn.
