Included in the loss of graduating players was two time AUS MVP and last season’s U SPORTS Most Valuable Player Paloma Anderson. Posting a 3-3 preseason record, the Axewomen opened the regular season with three consecutive wins including a win at home against the favoured UPEI Panthers. With a 5-2 record at the Christmas Break and no scheduled exhibition play during the Holiday season, the Axewomen opened 2019 with a win against Dalhousie. Following a loss at Memorial in early January, the Axewomen went on a seven game winning streak that ended on a close loss to Cape Breton at home. Despite the loss to the Capers, rookie guard Jayda Veinot tied an Acadia single game record of 41 points set by Paloma Anderson in 2016. The regular season concluded with a four game losing streak that began with the loss to Cape Breton. The streak was snapped with a convincing 74-54 win over Dalhousie in quarterfinal play at the AUS Championships in Halifax. The Axewomen, who lost the regular season series 1-3 to UPEI posted an 88-84 win over the Panthers in the semifinals. Axewomen leading scorer Haley McDonald drained 51 points, eclipsing the AUS record of 50 points in a single game set in 1976. The Axewomen would go on to win the AUS championship game 84-74 against Memorial.
