Coming Out Week (October) Event hosted by many campuses throughout the nation in support of the GLBTQ Community and GLBTQ social justice issues. Native American Heritage Month (November) Hosted by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Native Student Union in celebration of the Native American History and rich culture. Ray Warren Multicultural Symposium (November) An annual campus wide symposium that focuses on diversity and multicultural issues surrounding race, ethnicity and identity. Kwanzaa Dinner (December) The Black Student Union celebrates the African American holiday of Kwanzaa with the lighting of the Kwanzaa candles, a dinner and a cultural representation. Spring Semester: Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration (January) Annual Celebration through song, passages, and a candlelight vigil to reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Black History Month (February) Hosted by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Black Student Union to create this month-long awareness event celebrating the history and current contributions of African Americans. Gender Studies Symposium (March) Focusing on issues of gender, race, and class, this symposium includes an art exhibit, theatre performances, roundtables, workshops, papers, panels, and keynote talks by prominent guest speakers. Powwow (March) In celebration of Native American Month, the Native Student Union organizes this social powwow to bring together students, staff, faculty, and members of the Portland community. International Fair (March) Occurring yearly on the first Saturday in March, this International Students of Lewis & Clark coordinated event attracts students, staff, and members of the Portland Community to its display of food and cultural performances. Lu’au (April) An annual community event that features authentic Hawaiian food, costumes, music, and dancing. The Lu’au is the result of months of preparation by the Hawaii Club. Salsa Fiesta (April) Started by a student in 1999, this annual celebration of Mexican American/ Chicano/ Latino heritage attracts hundreds if students for lessons and dancing each spring.
