March – April 2019 Newsletter VINTON WESLEYAN CHURCH Highlights Reflections March 1-3 Discover the Joy MARCH/APRIL 2019 District Women’s Conference From the Pastor’s Pen . March 2 Prayer Rally, 8:30 a.m. Reading God’s Word is a great thing to do. As Christians, we should de- sire to read it out of love for God. Our best motive is not out of duty but March 3 Communion, 11 a.m. out of perseverance and love. Reading God’s Word reveals who God is and His great purpose for all who will follow Him. March 5 Jolly Agers, 9 a.m. Vinton Wesleyan Church will begin March 6 a 40 Day Lent Challenge to March 6 read the Bible, pray and fast. You may pick up your 40 Day Guide on Sun- Ash Wednesday day. March 10 Daylight Saving Time I am sharing a devotional by Dr. Charles Stanley with you to encourage March 17 and bless your heart with permission to use. LBA, 7:10 p.m. March 21 Ladies Night Out, 6 p.m. The Bible: God’s Love Letter March 24 God wants a relationship with each of us, which requires that we know Him. Family & Friend Day, 11 a.m. In the Scriptures, we find the records of His spoken words, His interventions in No PM Activities — Family Time! history, and His coming to earth in the person of Jesus Christ.     LCMS Circuit Bible Studies — 2014-2015 Words of Life for the Church and for the World “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Rom. 10:17). “One holy Church is to continue forever. The Church is the assembly of saints, in which the Gospel is rightly taught and the Sacraments are rightly administered” (Augustana VII). The Church “has outward marks so that it can be recognized, namely, the pure doctrine of the Gospel, and the administration of the Sacraments in accordance with the Gospel of Christ” (Apology VII/VIII). The Lord Jesus gives John a vision of the Church at the consummation of all things: “Behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’” (Rev. 7:9–10). This one, holy, Christian and apostolic Church is here and now, wherever the Word of God is present. The Word of God will have believers; it will not return to God void! The Church is created and lives by words — specific words, true words and every one of them God’s Words. “Let God be true though every one were a liar” (Rom. 3:4). As Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away” (Luke 21:33). Birthdays and Anniversaries As I begin this message, I will admit it is a bit difficult to keep Financial Report my mind focused on the task. Finally, we are getting some “spring - Shut-ins & Military like” weather. By Saturday (March 30) we may have temps in the 70’s. Needless to say, many of us are ready for the warmer weather to get Easter Party here and stay! Easter Sunday I will also admit that I really underestimated the recovery from Men’s Group my neck surgery. Movement for me is going very well. I still have some limitation to moving my head side to side, but as the surgeon Women’s Book Club said….give it six months or more. I am now three months from Book Fair surgery, so I am pleased with where my recovery is. But, I initially — Crafty Chicks thought….two weeks recovery and I will be back to normal. NOT! As I look to the events that April brings our way, I definitely Community Lenten Service need to make mention that April 7th (a Sunday this year….and we all Sisters of Service know what happens when a birthday is on a Sunday!) Jeri will turn 65. Faith Kidz So, HAPPY 65th BIRTHDAY JERI! Then, of course, April is the month this year that we celebrate Chicken Barbecue Easter! I can never put how meaningful Easter is to me into words.
