Athletes for Autism Presents the Jeff Lorber Fusion in Vogel Hall One Night Only Benefit Performance November 23 at 7Pm CONTACT: Info/Interviews Stephen Eichenbaum: eichenbaum/associates, inc. 414-225-0011 or [email protected] Athletes for Autism Presents The Jeff Lorber Fusion in Vogel Hall One night only benefit performance November 23 at 7pm MILWAUKEE, WI (Friday, November 8, 2013) - Keyboardist/composer/producer Jeff Lorber, brings his GRAMMY®-nominated power trio, The Jeff Lorber Fusion, to Milwaukee for a one night only benefit concert for Athletes for Autism. The performance will be presented in Vogel Hall at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts on November 23 at 7:00 pm. By the late 1970s, trailblazing keyboardist Jeff Lorber had become a prominent figure in the new movement known as jazz fusion – a marriage of traditional jazz with elements of rock, R&B, funk and other electrified sounds. The Jeff Lorber Fusion first honed their craft in the Portland, Oregon club scene and rapidly expanded their reach to an international audience. This contemporary jazz collective, featuring bassist/co-producer Jimmy Haslip and saxophonist Eric Marienthal, has blended elements of jazz, funk, rock, R&B and world music into a distinctive sound that has connected with audiences from a variety of continents, cultures and generations. In more recent years, the group’s studio efforts such as their 2010 release, Now Is the Time (2010) and Galaxy (2012), influenced by extensive touring throughout Europe and Asia, have been colored with vibrant shades of dance and house music. These same colors are at the forefront of Hacienda, the new album from The Jeff Lorber Fusion released in August on Heads Up, a division of Concord Music Group. Jeff's new recording, Hacienda, on Heads Up International / Concord, revisits a sound he helped pioneer. The album takes the experiment that he started with his GRAMMY- nominated CD, Now is the Time, and his 2012 album, Galaxy, up a notch with 11 exciting and energetic new compositions. Co-produced by Lorber and bassist/composer Jimmy Haslip, Hacienda also features saxophonist Eric Marienthal. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased in person at the Marcus Center Box Office at 929 North Water Street, Downtown Milwaukee, by phone at 414-273-7206 or online at Ticketmaster.com and MarcusCenter.org. A VIP post show reception is also available through the Box Office. For more information, visit MarcusCenter.org or AthletesForAutismFoundation.org. ### ABOUT ATHLETES FOR AUTISM The Athletes for Autism Foundation is a Milwaukee based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that seeks to enhance the quality of life for families affected by autism by supplementing traditional treatment therapies with health, wellness, fitness and nutrition. New York Avenue, Atlantic City, New Jersey AP WORLD An 501c-3, tax deductible organization built on the legacy of a beloved son, doing our part to strengthen families and inspire communities during difficult times. Professional basketball player, DeAndre’ Bembry of the Toronto Raptors, launched AP World in memory of his brother, Adrian Potts. Adrian celebrated his brothers’ accomplishments and planned to be sitting alongside DeAndre’ to watch the NBA draft on June 23, 2016. Adrian helped plan the draft party with their mother, Essence. Essence dedicated her life to helping her sons achieve success and was devastated when she received the dreaded phone call no parent ever wants to hear. In the early morning of June 11, 2016 literally days before the much-anticipated draft, Essence received the tragic news from Adrian’s father. Her 20-year-old, ambitious, fun-loving and tenacious son, was shot and killed near the University of North Carolina, Charlotte campus. This tragedy had a shocking and paralyzing effect on the Bembry family. Knowing where to find support and assistance while planning a funeral service, dealing with unimaginable grief and the reality of life without a son, brother and best friend, were overwhelming for Essence and DeAndre’. This family tragedy served as the catalyst for DeAndre’ to develop a support system that could be an anchor and a resource hub for other families who may have to take a similar journey through grief.

ESPERANZA SPALDING If “esperanza” is the Spanish word for hope, then bassist, vocalist and composer Esperanza Spalding could not have been given a more fitting name at birth. Blessed with uncanny instrumental chops, a multi-lingual voice that is part angel and part siren, and a natural beauty that borders on the hypnotic, the 25-year-old prodigy-turned-pro might well be the hope for the future of jazz and instrumental music. Spalding was born in 1984 and raised on what she calls “the other side of the tracks” in a multi- lingual household and neighborhood in Portland, Oregon. Growing up in a single-parent home amid economically adverse circumstances, she learned early lessons in the meaning of perseverance and moral character from the role model whom she holds in the highest regard to this day – her mother. But even with a rock-solid role model, school did not come easy to Spalding, although not for any lack of intellectual acumen. She was both blessed and cursed with a highly intuitive learning style that often put her at odds with the traditional education system. On top of that, she was shut in by a lengthy illness as a child, and as a result, was home-schooled for a significant portion of her elementary school years. In the end, she never quite adjusted to learning by rote in the conventional school setting. “It was just hard for me to fit into a setting where I was expected to sit in a room and swallow everything that was being fed to me,” she recalls.

EARNEST WALKER JR. Smooth Groove Artist Earnest Walker Jr. spent the first 15 years of his life traveling the country with his family. The experience taught him an appreciation of different cultures and musical styles. At the age of nine, Walker started playing the guitar, but a year later he picked up the saxophone and it has been his passion ever since. When he was only 14 years old, the established musicians in Pensacola, Florida felt his playing was so essential they would sneak Walker into night clubs to showcase his talents. Walker studied music education at Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, and later attended Florida State University, quickly establishing himself as one of the most sought-after saxophonists on both campuses and all around the state of Florida. After college, Walker joined the Air Force, where he performed with different groups in each town he was stationed. After the military, Walker toured and performed in most of the central to eastern portions of the country, including Miami, Daytona Beach, Charleston SC, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando and Denver. RENEGADE CREATION Michael Landau (Guitar); Robben Ford (Guitar); Jimmy Haslip (Bass); Gary Novak (Drums) Renegade Creation is the new record by veteran musical giants, Michael Landau, Robben Ford, Jimmy Haslip and Gary Novak. Blending together to create a blues-driven sound that not only will satisfy their individual fans but is fresh enough to attract a legion of new fans as well. Delivering bothrootsy, blues/rock vocal tunes and fiery instrumentals, the band draws on the unique guitar interplay between guitar giants Robben Ford and Michael Landau who inspire each other to new personal bests. Review Renegade Creation (Blues Bureau International - a division of Shrapnel Records) is a thinking man's blues rock album featuring a dream-team of four top shelf musicians - Michael Landau (guitar), Robben Ford (guitar), Jimmy Haslip (bass) and Gary Novak (drums). Though this is the first time the four have recorded an album together, it's not as though there's no history between these players. Ford and Haslip go back to the pre-Yellowjackets days, Landau has played with Ford many times (including a late-70s west coast tour that included Haslip), both Landau and Ford have used Novak on various tours and recordings, you get the idea. Some of you may envision "west coast jazz" when you think of these musicians, but what they've done here is far removed from that scene. Renegade Creation is a guitar-driven, predominantly vocal rock album, with a heavy emphasis on blues; more akin to Ford and Landau's vocal recordings than any manner of jazz or fusion.
