27th JUNE 2018 EDITION OF ICCI (Qld) NEWSLETTER

A few words from the President, Comm. Hon. Santo Santoro

Dear Members and Friends of ICCI (Qld),

Welcome to another edition of the ICCI (Qld) Newsletter which as you can gather is now being forwarded to you on a more regular basis than previously has been the case.

At ICCI (Qld), we have decided to keep in more frequent communication with our members and friends so that you can be updated about ICCI (Qld) activities and events in a more timely basis.

Since we last communicated with you, ICCI (Qld) has hosted a most successful Annual Dinner, attended by many VIPs, including: • Hon Steven Ciobo MP, Federal Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment • The Hon MP, Queensland Minister for Education and Minister for Industrial Relations • Andrew Powell MP, Shadow Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning, representing the Leader of the , MP • The Hon Tim Nicholls MP, State Member for Clayfield and Mrs Mary Nicholls • The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor Cr Graham Quirk and Lady Mayoress Anne Quirk • Cr David McLachlan, Chairman of the Environment, Parks and Sustainability Committee Councillor for Hamilton Ward • Cr Angela Owen, Chairman of Council, Councillor for Calamvale Ward • Dott. Ludovico Carlo Camussi, Italian Consul to Queensland and the Northern Territory.

All of the above were delighted to mix and mingle with all in attendance at the dinner.

Much fine food and wine was enjoyed by all, with Gambaro’s looking after us in their usual very efficient manner and many of our major sponsors and supporters, including Bertocchi, Casella Family Brands, Italiquore and Gerbino’s added greatly to the magnificence of the culinary offering during the evening.

The speeches from our special guests and VIPs were relevant, informative, culturally very appropriate and most entertaining. The singing of the Italian and Australian national anthems were highlights of the evening, as were beautiful scenes from Italy broadcast on large TV screens. And, of course, the business networking opportunities were second to none.

The speeches by Minister Ciobo and Consul Camussi focussed very heavily on the increasing presence of and impact by iconic Italian companies now operating in Australia. Both stressed that companies such as Ghella, Mapei, Salini-Impregilo and Italian Railways are very much making their presence felt within the infrastructure space, not only in Queensland but indeed, throughout Australia.

Both the Minister and the Consul outlined the increase in trade and investment into Australia by many sectors, including the traditional sectors of food and wine but also fashion, engineering, infrastructure, including the building of roads, railways, tunnels and much investment also within the mining, energy and agricultural sectors of the Australian economy.

Last Saturday night, ICCI (Qld) co-hosted with the Accademia Italiana della Cucina, a magnificent dinner at Andrea Ravezzani’s Noosa Waterfront Restaurant.

The purpose of the dinner was to accredit the restaurant as a fully recognised restaurant of the Accademia Italiana della Cucina and of course, to enjoy the very best of delicious culinary delights made in Italy.

Over 90 people appreciated the opportunity to participate in a truly memorable evening.

The Chamber doubled up on Monday morning with a “Business made in Italy” business networking breakfast at The See Restaurant at Mooloolaba, attended by 35 people who very much enjoyed listening to Paul Betti, Sophie Kurz and Chris Cameron talk about “Operating a family business in the aged of disruption”. This was again a very enjoyable ICCI (Qld) function which demonstrated a continuing willingness of ICCI (Qld) to extend its reach beyond the Brisbane metropolitan area.

Finally, can I encourage all ICCI (Qld) members and friends to consider attending the Senator the Honourable Matt Canavan Networking Lunch on Monday 23rd July?

Senator Canavan is one of the Federal Government’s hardest working and most effective Cabinet Ministers and I am sure he will be one of ICCI (Qld)’s most interesting guest speakers.

And, of course, you will remember that Senator Canavan boasts a very distinguished Italian heritage. We look forward to making you feel very welcome – not only at this event but all other events hosted by ICCI (Qld).

With very kind regards and best wishes,

Commendatore the Hon Santo Santoro President
