The Commission carried out thorough investigation and extensive analysis of the available information and evidences, statements and interviews with concerned persons, study of reports, records and documents etc. The Commission had submitted some interim safety recommendations as immediate remedial measures. The Commission in its final report presented safety recommendations to be implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal and Nepal Airlines Corporation respectively. -

Sacramento s/n, La Cañada de San Urbano, 04120 Almería, Spain * Correspondence: [email protected] Received: 27 June 2019; Accepted: 22 August 2019; Published: 24 August 2019 Abstract: Global alliances have traditionally been related to improvements in the economic and operational performances of companies, particularly in the airline industry. However, we still do not know the effect of the participation in this kind of multilateral agreement on the environmental performance of airlines. The main aim of this work is to analyze whether the alliance membership of airlines has an effect upon their environmental performance, and if so, whether or not the characteristics of the global alliance, as well as the business model of the airline, may influence this relation to a greater or lesser extent. The results of regression and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) in a sample of 252 airlines (58 included in one of the three global alliances: Star Alliance, Oneworld, and SkyTeam) show a strong and inverse relationship between environmental performance and belonging to an alliance. The paper also shows empirical evidence of the influence of the business model of the airline on environmental performance. These results suggest important implications for managers facing challenges regarding sustainability. Keywords: global alliances; sustainability; environmental performance; airlines; aviation 1. Introduction The aviation sector is the fastest-growing source of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide [1]. Many authors and corporations, such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), agree that environmental sustainability may be achieved through external pressure with the imposition and accomplishment of different policies, regulations, taxations and other fiscal instruments [2–6]. -

It studies alliances and mergers implications on air transport, and suggests the development of frameworks for their regulation. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Significant developments have occurred in the field of air transport. A large number of countries made remarkable progress in liberalizing international air transport regulations, and became involved in full market-access arrangements. At the same time, the airline industry underwent a major shift and saw the forging alliances and mergers between companies in order to consolidate their presence in a market environment characterized by strong competition. 1.2 Alliances between airlines have become a dominant feature in air transport, and a new global phenomenon unfolding relatively quickly through multiple collaborative business arrangements. Alliance agreements took different forms and included various elements of code-sharing, marketing and pricing cooperation, schedules coordination, and offices and airport facilities sharing. -

PRELIMINARY WEATHER SUMMARY OF NEPAL May 2018 Note: This weather summary is based on daily data of 38 meteorological stations established by Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. MAIN HIGHLIGHT Most parts of the country recorded normal to above normal rainfall and normal to below normal temperature (Fig.2 and Fig.4). SYNOPTIC SEQUENCES An east-west trough extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level ran from northwest Rajasthan to Manipur across the cyclonic circulations (CC) over Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal and Assam and Meghalaya on 2nd May 2018 and a western disturbance (WD) spurred wide spread rainfall covering whole Nepal on 3rd May. The trough became less marked on 3rd May however these circulation continued to bring significant amount of rainfall during 1st week. North-south trough roughly along Long. 88°E to the north of Lat.24°N and CC over Bihar with trough at 1.5km from Bihar to Odisha along with a WD contributed well distributed rainfall over Nepal during 9th, 10th and 11th May. These systems became less marked by 11th May. A trough ran from the cyclonic circulation over south Haryana to Nagaland across north Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Meghalaya and extended up to 1.5 km above sea level on 13th and became less marked on 14th. The trough and a WD as CC over Jammu and Kashmir and trough aloft with its axis at 5.8km above sea level influenced rainfall that covered whole Nepal on 14th May and eastern Nepal on 15th. -

Fax: +44 20 7911 5057 e-mall: [email protected] A__hs!ra__ct In the current downaa'n in demand for air travel, major airlines are revising and rationalising their networks in an attempt to improve financial performance and strengthen their defences against both new entrants and traditional rivals. Expansion of commercial agreements or alliances with other airlines has become a key reaction to the increasingly competitive marketplace. In the absence, for regulatory reasons, of cross-border mergers these are the principal means by which the industry can consolidate internationally. The failure of airlines such as Sabena and Swlssair has also enforced restructuring at some of Europe's busier airports. This paper analyses the developments which have been taking place and attempts to itentify the implications for airline network _s and the function of different hub airports. Airlines have rationalised their networks by withdrawing services that feed the hubs of rival alliances. New ;links have however _ created hthatare made feasible by the alliance support. The range of services available to passengers in long-haul markets to/from Europe is evaluated before and after recent industry reorganisation. Hubs are crucial to interlink the route networks of parmers in an alliance. However, duplication between nearby hub airports that find themselves within the same airline alliance can lead to loss of service at the weaker locations.
