Cambridge County Netball Association- ‘We are very proud of what we do’

2014 saw Cambridgeshire County Netball Association build a full and productive Committee.

Up until 2014 Cambridgeshire’s committee seats were always missing several positions but with a County working together all positions are filled. The committee meet once a quarter with positive actions and decisions.

The County Chair is Olivia Petherick. Olivia took the post last year after being mentored by Jill Harrison for 12months to take over this important role for the County.

Vice-Chair is Linda Swain. Linda is a very experienced person in Cambridgeshire, working in and around the County for several years who also sits on the East Regional Management Board. A vital person to have on our committee with tremendous amounts of netball knowledge.

Secretary is Floria Marshall, Floria works tirelessly to encourage and action decisions within our County. Floria is always on the end of the telephone or email to offer support and guidance to those that need it.

Treasurer is Joan Rolfe, Joan is an amazing part of our committee who works very hard to keep the accounts in check and is always there to offer help. An important person on the ‘team’.

Helen Stepney is the Academies and Performance Officer together with the School Liaison Officer. Helen is a well-known and popular person in Cambridgeshire and brings great strength to our County working under several ‘umbrellas’ and has excellent knowledge of netball.

Gill Stevens is a new face to the Cambridgeshire Committee as Coaching Secretary but has already worked extremely hard to pull together a coaching database which is active and encourages communication to our fantastic coaches within Cambridgeshire.

Tracy Coppolaro and Debbie George are also new to the Cambridgeshire committee but have already made a great impact within the competitions co-ordinator role and the membership role. Debbie is also our disciplinary secretary. As targets were not hit in 2013/14 Kat had a difficult job in achieving 2 years targets in . This has been achieved and Kat is working extremely hard in and around the County to enable new umpires to move forwards. A key person on the team. Naomi Zielinska is the County’s Safeguarding Officer and is always there to offer support and guidance within the County. Naomi is also our Website and Marketing Officer, we now have a new website at www.cambscna.org which we all work together to keep updated.

Janette Bowden is the Cambridgeshire Netball Development Officer working closely with the committee. We like to call our committee a ‘team’ as that’s the way we work!

Juliet Francis is also a new member to the team as the minuting secretary. Juliet has also taken the role to help and assist our County Academy head coach in supporting this year’s trial dates. Kat Skivington is our new Officiating Officer taking over in 2014.

Cambridgeshire now have 19 junior sections, which shows a close working network within our Clubs. Juniors playing netball is a great passion to all those sitting on the committee.

Big Summer of Netball 2015

Last year the Big Summer of Netball was a huge success and England Netball wants to follow on from that and make this year’s Big Summer of Netball a Bigger Summer of Netball. If you can help to achieve this by setting up a new summer league, tournament or festival then we want to hear from you, as we might be able to help! England Netball is offering grant funding to organisations to help support setting up new competition opportunities this summer. For more information, please email: [email protected].

Suffolk Youth Volunteers Suffolk Netball has established a Suffolk Volunteers programme that works with young volunteers after their 2 years have elapsed on the England Netball’s Pass on Your Passion scheme. Bought to you by the England Netball Youth Advisory Group the 'Pass on your Passion' programme aims to recognise the countless number of young volunteers in netball. It aims to provide you with opportunities, ideas and rewards to help you on your leadership and volunteering journey.

So for those young POYP Volunteers who want to continue being recognised as a young volunteer in Suffolk can for an additional two years with Suffolk Netball. Volunteers will be offered the incentives: in the form of Credits towards CPD courses and after 300+ credits a trophy. A celebration of the volunteers will occur at the Suffolk AGM where certificates will be awarded to all volunteers who have logged and achieved any of the staged hours.

Connie is a great advocate for the scheme. “I am 15 and I have been volunteering since the age of 12, so when I was able to register with POYP it was great because I was awarded with gifts from EN for the hours I had done and recieved - t-shirt, water bottle, clip board, discount voucher, hoodie and loads of certificates which I have included in my CV and which I am sure will help me when I apply to Uni. I am now a qualified umpire and hope to be attending the Level 1 coaching course later this year – when I am 16!”Connie has volunteered at the Suffolk Show previously and is registering with Suffolk Netball volunteering programme.

The primary goal for 2015 is to involve as many netball volunteers within County events as well as at club sessions. So for the first time Suffolk Volunteers will proudly wear their Suffolk Volunteer T- shirts at the Suffolk Sport events.
