Everythingyou Need to Know ODYSSEY An International Exchange Student's Guide to IMT Ghaziabad Contents Welcome to India 1.1 Welcome Diversity, the only word that can synonym with the word India, a country that can boast of being the oldest civilization and the youngest country in the world. India is a perfect example of amalgamation between culture and modern trends, we walk by holding hands with culture and technology at the same time. A country which on one hand can take pride in its pristine mountains, sprawling landscape and rivers, also has its state of the art education institutions, competent IT industry and ever growing trade in commerce. So, with joined palms and bowed head we welcome you to the most popular investment, cultural and educational hub of the world. We hope that you have a wonderful time exploring this truly incredible country and have a very pleasant stay. 1.2 How to Reach IMT Ghaziabad IMT Ghaziabad is located in the National Capital Region of India. The IMT campus is well connected with all available modes of transportation. Air: Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi - 45 Km (28 miles) or 90 minutes’ drive. Railways: New Delhi Railway station, Delhi – 30 Km (19 miles) or 45 minutes. The nearest Delhi Metro Railway station is Vaishali at a distance of around 12 Km from the college. On your arrival, your travel will be taken care of. On prior notification, a taxi will be arranged to pick you up from the airport. 3 1.3 On reaching your new home You need to report at the International Relations Office (IRC). If your stay is for more than 180 days and/or is mentioned in your VISA, please register yourself at the Foreigner’s Registration Office at Ghaziabad within 14 days of your arrival in India to avoid fine and hassles. In case of any assistance, we are of course available to help you feel at ease in your new home. 1.4 Currency Exchange You can exchange all major foreign currencies at Delhi Airport after clearing immigration. You can find numerous foreign exchange counters (such as the Thomas Cook counter) available at the airport. Currently there are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency (notes, coins, travellers’ cheque and drafts drawn on Indian banks) that you may carry to India. However, if the total amount of Indian currency is equivalent to or exceeds USD 10000 then you need to declare it to the Indian custom authorities at the airport. Various foreign exchange dealers are available in and around Ghaziabad and Delhi. The closest counter is at 5-7 minutes walking distance from Campus. The working hours are between 10 am and 6 pm (Monday to Friday). Contact of currency exchange near Campus: 1. In most cases there is a software lock that needs to be opened by the cell phone operator. You may buy cheap basic cell phones (Price range: INR 1200-1500/-) and get a local GSM connection to go with it. Some local service providers are Airtel, Idea, Vodafone and Jio. Odyssey came with a Specialty Format, having introduced affluent product lines ranging from books to music, leisure, games and gifts. The success stories in all the 13 cities, mostly in the lush, sultry South, resulted in its rapid entry to the so called Culture Capital in July 2008. Odyssey launched one of the large format retail stores in South Calcutta with area coverage of nearly 30000 square feet. In its attempt to redefine leisure shopping experience for Calcutta’s people, they offered world-class ambience for undisturbed and relaxed shopping experiences. Within 10 months of its commencement, Odyssey closed down on 10th May 2009. Approach: The secondary data analysis had been done. The newspaper report, internet had been consulted to get the data. Results: A combination of expansion planned going wrong, high rentals and dipping spends made Mission Calcutta impossible for Odyssey. Within 10 months of its commencement, Odyssey closed down on 10th May 2009. What went wrong in such haste? Conclusion/Recommendations: Further research should be conducted based on the primary data.
