Foreword from the State President,

It is my privilege to present the consolidated report of all the districts of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation . This time all district presidents have the privilege of preparing the district reports separately and offer them at the Samadhi. However, small districts could not prepare separate reports due to varied reasons such as lack of capable human resources in remote areas, minimum activities, etc.

Therefore, it’s my pleasure to prepare the consolidated report in the suggested template for presenting a uniform report of all districts across . We have tried our level best to collate all the available data at our disposal and present it in a comprehensive manner. We are offering this report at the Divine Lotus Feet of Bhagawan and pray to guide us continuously.

Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations– an introduction

The Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, founded by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Babain the year 1965, is a service organisation with a spiritual core and base to benefit all mankind irrespective of religion, caste, creed or sect. The Organisation serves as a plat form for its members to undertake service and other activities motivated by an urge for one's own transformation with the aim of realising one's inherent divinity.

Without any distinction of religion, nationality, race, socio- economic status, either for those who work in the Organisation or for those who are served by it, the Organisation transcends all barriers leading humanity towards the ideal of 'Fatherhood of God and Brotherhood of Man'.

The concept of fees or membership subscription is alien to the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, for there cannot beany fee or subscription for one's journey towards his own self.

The organisation functions through its primary units called as Samithis and Bhajan Mandal is of which individuals-from different strata of society, different ethnic groups pursuing different religions and faiths-are members bound by the dictum of “Love all, Serve All” and pursue their own sadhana towards self-transformation following the path of selfless service to humanity.

At no point is an individual asked to follow ascertain religion or rituals. On the contrary each is in spired to follow his own faith so as to ensure that a becomes a better Hindu, a Muslim becomes a better Muslim, a Christian becomes a better Christian and soon. In fact, this spiritual basis inspires everyone to pursue his own religion better by putting into practice Love and Selflessness. That is why the Organisation features in its emblem the symbols of the major religions of the world.

“The Organisations named after Me are not to be used for publicising My Name, or creating a new cult around My worship….They must render seva (service)to the helpless, the sick ,the distressed, the illiterate and the needy. Their seva (selfless service) should not he exhibition is tic; it must seek no reward, not even gratitude or thanks from the recipients. Sevaissadhana (spiritual exercise), not a pastime of the rich and well placed. You must have the firm belief that the aim of this Organisation is to remove the obstacles that keep man away from God, that separate maanavathwa(Humanity)fromMaadhavathwa(Divinity).ThisOrganisationmustelevatethehumanintotheDivine.”

MANIPUR

BRIEFHISTORY

Way back in 1965, Subedar Major (Retd.) Tej Bahadur started Sai Bhajan in his residence at Mantripukhri, Imphal, Manipur, for one hour every Thursday at 6.00 p.m. where only two or three people attended. The small group of Sai devotees were later joined by Shri. Akalchand Limbu, JCO (Retd.), Assam Rifle in the year 1970. In 1976, a small Mandir made by bamboo and thatch was constructed in the present complex of Mantripukhri Sai Prasanthi Mandir, Mantripukhri, Imphal. On Feb 17, 1985, a two-room Mandir (made by wood with CI sheet roof) was built by the joint efforts of Professor Nagar, Education Department, DM College, Imphal; Shri Srinivasan, Commandant, GREF; and Yumkham Erabot Singh, the incumbent MLA of the Wangkhei Assembly Constituency (before he joined politics). Prof. Nagar is from Gujarat. On Nov 23, 1985, fourteen people led by Prof. Nagar went to Puttaparthi to attend Bhagawan’s Birthday Celebrations and the Fourth World Conference where Wing Commander AD Singh, IAF (now retd.) met the team. After his transfer to Imphal, Wing Commander AD Singh became actively involved in the affairs of Sai Mandir at Mantripukhri and reached out to more devotees till the inception of Shri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation in Manipur. The devotees in small group had only been performing spiritual activities especially conducting bhajan and observance of some festivals celebrated in Prasanthi Nilayam. Soon after, the Shri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, North Eastern Region (Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh) started establishing its foot hold in the NE Region including Manipur. Dr. S. Barooa from Shillong was the President of the organisation, Shri. AP Sharma was its Vice- President. For Manipur, Shri Akalchand Subha of Mantripukhri was the first State Co-ordinator. Late Akalchand Subha resigned from the post of State Co-ordinator on health ground before he died. Then, Retd.Wing Commander, AD Singh who was a Sqdn. Leader during the time took over as full time State Co-ordinator of the state. By that time, some transition was being made in the arrangement of Shri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation. As a new system, there was to be a Presidentexclusively for every district of a state, and as such the existing post of State Co-ordinator was abolished consequently. Wing Commander A.D. Singh (Retd.) was to be the District President of District of Manipur. Dr. Barooa offered Dr. G.S. Moirangthem, the post of District President of both the Imphal East and the Imphal West districts. But, he was not in a position to accept the privilege offered to him. Shri Th. Achoumani Singh was chosen as the district president of Imphal (The Imphal East and the Imphal West Districts combined); Shri A.P. Sharma held the post of the State President of the North-Eastern Region. Consequent upon Shri A.P. Sharma's becoming State President, the Organisation once known as Shri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation NER was changed to SSS Organisation, Assam, & NER. Consequently, Wing Commander (Retd) Shri A.D. Singh formed Shri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Manipur separately under his leadership. Mantripukhri Samithi (Manipur) was on the wait-and-watch mode for some time, and then joined the newly formed State Organisation of Manipur. After that, the State Unit that was formed as SSS Organisation, Assam & NER under the leadership of A.P. Sharma was changed to SSS Organisation, Assam, Manipur and NER. Thus sprouted two groups of Sai Organisation in Manipur: One was SSS Organisation Assam, Manipur & NER, under Shri A.P. Sharma; and the other, Shri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Manipur, under Shri A.D. Singh, Retd. Wing Commander. One reason or the other, Sai Organisation in Manipur remained virtually shattered to a certain extent. A member of one so-called group used to shy away from meeting the members of the other group even to the extent of ex- communicating each other. Having had enough of the unfortunate scenario, some neutral members volunteered to make an effort to unite those two factions. A joint meeting for all Sai Bhaktas was convened on October 29, 2006 at Sai Mandir, Mantripukhri. That made everybody happy. Almost all the members breathed a sigh of relief after lamenting that those awful moments would not have lingered that long had such a meeting been held quite earlier. All had expressed regret for the mistake and agreed in principle to unite afresh, the modalities of which were to be chalked out in the next meeting soon. After this consensus, an unexpected feeling of courage urged Dr. Moirangthem to do some spadework by writing a letter to Shri V. Srinivasan, All India President and sent it on November 2, 2006. A similar copy of this letter was also submitted to Bhagwan Shri Sathya Sai Baba with all faith. He hoped that if the efforts were right, Baba, the God Incarnate, will definitely ordain a message through the All India President, at least, before Nov. 30, 2006. Astonishingly, the same thing happened, he got an e-mail on the same day from All India President, and that was exactly the reply to the letter.

It was felt that, Bhagawan has felt and blessed accordingly. The mail enquired about the number of Mandalis and Samithis formed in Manipur at that time. The list was compiled on December 9, 2006. After having few further correspondences, an important letter via e-mail was received from the then AIP Shri V. Srinivasan stating that the list of Samithis and Mandalis operating in Manipur was received, and ten of those who aspired for establishing a State Unit in Manipur should come over at Puttaparthi to join Guru Purnima celebration and discussed the matter there. For all practical purposes, it was he who indicated to us that if, at all it so happened that, Bhagwan Baba blessed us a separate State Unit for Manipur we might be caught unprepared to meet the immediate turn of the situation. So, he advised us to come along mentally prepared for submitting at least three names of persons to meet the contingency. It all depended on His 'will' to bestow us a separate State Unit for Manipur. Who would be the State President out of the three we proposed, was also to be decided by Bhagwan. He further gave us a hint in his letter. This part in the letter read like this, "whatever the decision of Bhagvan [Baba] with regard to the function of such a Unit in Manipur, and who is the head of it, will be final and binding on all the devotees of Manipur". In our heart of hearts, we thought to ask Him to select anybody as He knows whatever His devotees desire to achieve. We sent a thanksgiving letter to the former AIP, Sri V Srinivasan on December 20, 2006 with a commitment that ten (10) of us were ready to come over to Prasanthi. In the meantime, we approached our esteemed brother, A.D. Singh, Wing Commander (Retd.) about leading the ten of us to meet All India President at Prasanthi Nilayam. Initially, he was almost willing to go, but finally declined saying that he should better not be involved in the matter, nor his name included in the recommended names. On the other hand, we also approached Dr. T. Gokulchandra Singh, the then President of under the banner of SSS Organisation, Assam, Manipur & NER to be one of the proposed 10-member team. He told us that he had his whole-hearted support for the new venture, however he was not in a position to join the Guru Purnima Celebration at Prasanthi, and he might be spared from joining the team for the Guru Purnima Celebration at Prasanthi Nilayam. Some devotees who aspired for the unity of all Sai Devotees by establishing a state unit of SSS Organisation for Manipur, assembled on Guru Purnima Day at Prasanthi Nilayam. Sarvashri H. Manihar Singh, Phalguni, Prameshor Sharma, K. Joy, Maibam Achouba, Raghumani Sharma, L. Suranjan and Joykumar were in the team. Shri K. Bheirob Sharma, who was one who took a lot of interest to be among the team from the very beginning, could not join as he had to leave for Guwahati due to an unavoidable family problem. Other devotees as mentioned above assembled at Puttaparthi on July 27, 2007, as already advised by former All India President, Sri V Srinivasan and the moment the team reached Puttaparthi all of them went straight to the All India President's office to meet his Private Secretary, Shri Venktesh. On seeing, Shri Venkatesh informed that All India President was waiting for the team on July 26, 2007 also. Shri Venkatesh made an appointment for the team with the All India President sometime around 2 P.M. the same day. As the meeting room was small, only four persons entered. First of all, it was discussed and asked why devotees wanted to have a separate unit. He further asked us about coming back to the previous category, "North Eastern Region". All expressed that though small Manipur is, it is active in many field of Sathya Sai Seva Organisation in the NE region. Apart from this, though NE States appear to be very near and close to each other they are topographically so much separated from each other that in many instances we found that we reach Delhi earlier than reaching Arunachal Pradesh. Language is another factor that distances NE states and its people from one another. Moreover, in many instances of Prasanthi Seva done jointly as N-E Region, devotees of Manipur were increasingly giving more contribution. Allrequested the then AIP to put up the issue of Manipur to Bhagwan. Reacting to this, further after having few discussions “I will pray and you also will pray", he told to the team. And then he advised to the team that the best thing was that the team should submit quickly three names of devotees deemed competent for being the State President on or before July, 28, 2007 along with bio-data and photographs. Within that short notice, the team thought about to whose three names would be proposed and submitted for the post of State President, Manipur. Dr Moirangthem’s name was also not included in the proposed list as he was not ready to take the responsibilities supposed to be associated with the new assignment. The name of Shri T. Gokulchandra Singh, a senior office bearer of SSS Organisation, Manipur who stayed behind at Imphal could also not be included. To stitch in time, the name of Shri H. Manihar Singh, who was with the team, was included. Sri Sanjenbam. Chandrakanta Singh and M. Achouba Singh, known to be at Prasanthi, were nominated. Three young devotees had to make all the running to prepare the photographs and bio-data of all concerned, and they submitted the same to Shri Venkatesh, the Private Secretary to the former All India President, on the same night of July 27, 2007. The next day, July 28, 2007, all were called upon to join the All India meeting of the Office Bearers in presence of the former All India President. And July 29 was the Guru Purnima Day. The whole day passed in Bhajan singing, having Darshan of Swami and standing under the wish fulfilling tree to pray for a separate unit of Manipur. The next day, July 30, Shri Venkatesh, Private Secretary to former AIP, called Dr. Moiragthem at 9 P.M. to meet the President immediately. He contacted all the devotees of the team to get ready for the meeting.

Shri K. Kalachand of Tera Mandir, Imphal West District, Manipur, also joined the team as he is also requested. Thus, the team met the AIP at 9.30 p.m. Playing up the pages of the papers submitted the other day, the team was informed that Bhagwan had blessed Manipur to have a state unit of Sri Sathya Sai Organisation, with Shri Heisnam Manihar Singh as State President. Thus, the greatest moment of the devotees of Manipur emerged and a long drawn aspiration of all devotee of Manipur was fulfilled. The team paid obeisance to Bhagwan and also thank the former AIP, Sri V. Srinivasan. However, as many formalities were to be observed, AIP had strongly advised the team not to announce it till the Dussera Festival. All observed the instruction and kept it a secret. Unable to keep the secrecy of that joyful moment any longer, the team again asked the AIP for his permission to announce it to other devotees of Manipur. But he insisted to keep it as such till a few of the team came to Puttaparthi for the Dussera Festival and meet him. He further informed Dr.Moirangthem to start the new State Organisation of Manipur on Nov. 23, 2007, the day on which Bhagwan's Birthday will be celebrated. Further, he instructed Shri H. Manihar to submit a list of devotees who were supposed to be the new District Presidents. It was also further advised that while proposing names of devotees for District President, half of the working Presidents should be retained as they were. It was preferred that Shri T. Gokulchandra Singh, being the senior-most, should be retained. He was approached and he agreed. Shri T. Gokulchandra Singh was included in the nomination list. Imphal West was retained; Imphal East was to be changed; was retained; and Bishnupur was to be changed. Shri H. Manihar Singh, the President designate and Dr.Moirangthem were called for joining in the Dussera Festival. However Dr. Moirangthem regretted for his failure to join the festival. Thus, Shri H. Manihar, K.Joy, Phalguni, K. Bheirob, Maibam Achou met AIP on October 27, 2007. They were told to begin the new organisation formally from November, 23, 2007, the Birth Day of Bhagwan Shri Sathya Sai Baba. Many other do's and don'ts for the new set-up were instructed. All the district presidents proposed by the State President-Designate, Shri H. Manipur Singh were approved. Thus, with Bhagawan’s blesings a new chapter began in Manipur.

Brief History The first Bhajan Mandali was started in the state of Manipur in the year 1986 at Mantripukhri, Imphal. It was initiated by Sri A. Deven Singh, Wing Commander(Retd) with limited number of Devotees. In and around 1988 some Devotees from Manipur started visiting Prashanthi Nilayam. After that, Sri Sathya Seva Organisation come into existence in the State of Manipur. Foreword from the District President, Thoubal District

We take immense pleasure in submitting the annual report of Thoubal district for the period April 1, 2018, to March 31, 2019, as an offering to his Divine Lotus Feet in our journey of transforming ourselves as ideal and able instruments in the Divine Mission.

We pray and request the Lord to accept this report with love.

Jai Sai Ram!

Langpoklakpam Manglem Singh District President Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation Thoubal district, Manipur.

Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations Manipur, Thoubal District

Brief History Sai organization in the district come into force in 2001 with the initiation of Dr. S. Rabei Sing and Late Smt.W. Bijoya Devi as district representatives of SSSS organization, NER and Manipur at Sai Gokulam Mandir. The Sai Gokulam Mandir is located 1.5 km off Khongjom Bazar. The site where the mandir stands today has an area of 0.10 acres and was once a grazing ground for cattle, Hence, the word Gokulam was used while naming the mandir.

In 2003, a two-room Sai Mandir with a verandah was constructed with the purpose of conducting Sai bhajans. The mandir was inaugurated on October 11, 2003, with devotees from Imphal, Bishenpur and Thoubal districts taking part in the inaugural bhajan and partaking prasadham. Sai bhajans were conducted henceforth every third Sunday from 2 pm onwards at the mandir as a Samithi bhajan for the Khongjom Sai Samithi. Six Bhajan Mandalis were established at different places in this district. On June 4, 2004, State President Shri A.P. Sharma, State Trust Convener Shri Dwarik Sharma and Shri Dilipkumar Das and other Sai devotees from NER, Guwahati visited the Sai Gokulam Mandir.

From January 2004, Shri L. Shyamo Singh took the charge of District president with only five devotees and gradually the number of devotees increased to 159 before the expiry of Bhagwan Baba. Now, the present number of devotees is 87. Some of the key Sai members who helped the organization to run smoothly from the very beginning in the district are Smt. Late R.K Dhanapati Devi, Shri Late S. Imo Singh, Shri Y. Ibopishak Singh (Ex-DP, NER),and Shri S. Nimaichand.

Sai Gukulam Hall: The present Sai Gokulam Hall measuring 40 ft. x 30 ft. stands in front of the mandir. The foundation pillar was erected with Vedic chantings on February 3, 2006 at 7.40 am (Friday). It was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.50 lakhs. The moral and material support extended by Sai devotees of these remote villages was encouraging. This hall was inaugurated on July 8, 2007 (Sunday) with Vedic chantings and prasadham. Sai devotess of Kanglatongbi Sai Samithi in , Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal district were present at the inauguration function.

This district unit of the Sai organization has participated in many activities such as Guru training programmes, parenting awareness programmes, Bal Vikas classes, spot painting competitions, cleanliness drive programmes, tree plantation programmes, Narayan Seva, Malaria awareness programmes, Prasanthi Seva training programmes, etc. It had always taken keen interest in participating in every Sai function organized in the state as well as Prasanthi Nilayam. Our Bal Vikas students had participated in many cultural programmes held at Prasanthi Nilayam and the Dhol Dholok team from our district needs to be mentioned

here. By Bhagwan’s grace, the district unit has not been left out of every blood donation camp, disaster management activities, alumni meet, etc. For this, we express our gratitude to our most beloved Bhagawan Baba. He is the eternal witness; he is the inspiration. We are only mere instruments in His Divine Mission.

Let different faiths exist, let them flourish. Let the Glory of God be sung in all languages in a variety of tunes. Respect the differences between the faiths and recognise them as valid, as long as they do not extinguish the flame of unity. --Baba
