American Road Courses
American Road Courses Road America Watkins Glen Meadowdale Laguna Seca Westwood Riverside Mid Ohio Every Road Course Daytona of Past and Present in the United States Mosport and Canada Sebring Barber Miller Rob Semmeling American Road Courses Page 2 Introduction This file lists all permanentpaved road courses - i.e. non-oval racing circuits - in the United States and Canada. In most cases, 'permanent' is synonymous with 'purpose-built'. However, some circuits were not purpose-built but actually started out as tempo- rary courses. Florida's Sebring International Raceway, for example, was originally a temporary airfield course, laid out over the runways of Hendricks Field. Likewise, Portland International Raceway in Oregon evolved from a street course. Both circuits are nowadays permanent facilities. The starting point for this list was the 2003 edition of Allan Brown's book "A History of America's Speedways: Past & Present". This is an indispensable reference work for which Allan cannot be praised enough. However, in the book the road courses are a bit buried between the vast number of ovals. Listing them separately gives a better overview. Also, I found the information in the book is not always accurate. It is an excellent basis for further research but the data should be treated with great care. I have done my best to present the most correct and accurate info in this file, although there may well be errors here and there. In general, there are three main types of American road courses. The most interesting are the 'pure' road courses which were built specifically for road racing. -

New Orleans ranks 12th among U.S. cities for infrastructure jobs, report finds TED JACKSON / THE TIMES-PICAYUNEThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dredge Wheeler works near head of passes in the lower Mississippi River, along with 5 other dredges keeping the channel open for shipping traffic, Tuesday, March 20, 2012. In total, infrastructure jobs -- defined as supporting the nation's assets in energy, trade, transportation, public works and other sectors -- make up 11 percent of the U.S. workforce, more than previously thought, according to the report from The Brookings Institution. Over the next decade, infrastructure jobs will grow by more than 9 percent, the report said, and 2.7 million workers will be needed to fill open positions from turnover and aging workers retiring. Researchers with Brookings' Metropolitan Policy Program took stock of the nation's infrastructure jobs, defining 95 occupations in 42 industries from civil engineers and urban planners to river pilots and and petroleum pump operators, calling it the first report of its kind. -

Not content to stay stagnate, our Club Racing program continues to evolve. In 2011, we began the BFGoodrich Tires SCCA Super Tour program. With the help of our partner, BFGoodrich Tires, the series expanded to nine events for 2012, and included one special event in each division. These race weekends featured elements that aren’t always available at National Races, adding to the competitors’ experi- ence. We also unveiled the Majors program in the middle part of the coun- try this season, giving racers in the Rocky Mountain, Midwest and Southwest Divisions an opportunity to run for a larger championship without having to travel the country. -

Stacked on top of each other, those race tires would stand taller than 10 Empire State Buildings. FOUR WINNERS IN FOUR RACES: There have been four different winners in the four races thus far in 2015: Juan Pablo Montoya (Streets of St. Petersburg), James Hinchcliffe (NOLA Motorsports Park), Scott Dixon (Streets of Long Beach) and Josef Newgarden (Barber Motorsports Park). In 2014, there were a record-tying 11 different race winners. Will this weekend see the fifth winner of the season? PENSKE ON POLE IN 2015: Drivers from Team Penske are the only drivers to start from pole position in 2015. Helio Castroneves (Long Beach and Barber) and Will Power (St. Petersburg) earned Verizon P1 Awards through knockout qualifying. Juan Pablo Montoya started on pole at NOLA by virtue of leading the point standings entering that race. Can Penske continue its dominance in qualifying? FIVE STRIVE FOR IMS DOUBLE: Five drivers have a chance to become the first driver to win on both the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course and the famed 2.5-mile oval: Ryan Hunter-Reay, Tony Kanaan, Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves and Juan Pablo Montoya have all won the Indianapolis 500. -
