Guided Tours: Every stay in the overnight barracks comes with a complementary tour by one of our knowl- edgeable guides. Tours begin inside our 6 ½ acre parade field, where you learn about early Newport history and the impact that wars, such as the Revolution and the War of 1812, had on our area. On tour , you learn about the generations of soldiers and workers that lived in Fort Adams and whose stories span nearly two centuries of American History. After ascend- ing the fort walls and exploring both the fort’s sea and land de- fenses, every tour concludes with a visit to our underground listen- ing tunnels. The highlight for many visitors, our listening tunnels stretch underneath the walls of Fort Adams for over half a mile, many times at a height of only 4 ½ feet! Also included on tour is the museum exhibit, in the restored North Casemates, by the US . This exhibit details the Defenses of Narragan- sett Bay over three centuries, the history of the Navy in Narragansett Bay, the history of the Naval War College, and the story of how General Rochambeau and the French Army arrived in Newport in 1780 to help win the American Revolution.
