Press release (For immediate release) New Universe International’s revenue for 2012 soars 46% to HK$160 million Core environmental operations maintains steady growth 2012 Annual Results Highlights : Total revenue from continuing operations soared 45.7% year-on-year to HK$160 million. Turnover from environmental operations advanced 49.0% year-on-year to HK$110 million. Turnover from industrial sewage treatment and facilities rental services in the eco-plating specialized zone increased 39.0% year-on-year to approximately HK$50 million. Profit attributable to the Company’s owners increased 18.2% year-on-year to approximately HK$36.10 million. The Board proposed a final dividend of 0.37 HK cents per share for year 2012. (20 March 2013, Hong Kong) New Universe International Group Limited (“NU International” or the “Company”; stock code: 8068.HK) announced that profit attributable to the Company’s owners for the twelve months ending 31 December 2012 (the “Period”) grew 18.2% year-on-year to approximately HK$36.10 million. Basic earnings per share increased 10.3% year-on-year to 1.61 HK cents. The Board of the Company proposed a final dividend of 0.37 HK cents per share for year 2012. During the Period, the Company and its subsidiaries (collectively known as the “Group”) achieved total revenue of HK$160 million from continuing operations, representing a significant increase of 45.7% from the previous year. The Group’s environmental operations maintained steady growth in the Period. Revenue from environmental waste treatment services soared 49.0% year-on-year to HK$110 million, while that from the provision of environmental sewage treatment and facility rental services at an eco-plating specialized zone in Zhenjiang advanced 39.0% year-on-year to approximately HK$50 million. Facing the changes in land use to be implemented by the Suzhou government and in order to focus resources on the development of environmental operations, the Group entered into an agreement in July 2012 with an independent third party to dispose of the land and production facilities held by Suzhou New Universe, a manufacturing subsidiary of the Group. As Suzhou New Universe had discontinued its operations last New Universe International Group Limited Announces 2012 Annual Results year as decided, the manufacturing operations were classified as discontinued operations in the fiscal year of 2012. Net income from the disposal of discontinued operations will be accounted for in the first quarter this year upon completion of the handover of Suzhou New Universe’s disposed land and factory buildings in 2013. Meanwhile, the Group has made remarkable achievements in the expansion of environmental operations. An industrial waste treatment center in Xiangshui County, Jiangsu Province is expected to start trial-run by the end of the second quarter this year. Besides, its associated entity operating a hazardous industrial waste landfill in Zhenjiang has been put into trial operation since December 2012. Another associated entity, which has benefited from the local government’s strong support and has overcome the influences of adverse weather, operates integrated industrial and medical waste treatment operations in Dafeng City, Yancheng and has started trial-run in early 2013 as planned. Mr. Xi Yu, Chairman of NU International, said, “Despite a slowdown in China’s economy in 2012, the Group still managed to achieve satisfactory results in environmental operations. During the period, we got rid of the manufacturing business and focused our resources on the vigorous expansion of environmental operations, aiming to deliver greater returns to shareholders. While a number of our environmental waste treatment facilities have been put into trial operation, the Xiangshui project is poised to be completed in the first half of this year. Upon their full operation, our capacity will be significantly improved, laying a solid foundation for the robust growth of our businesses.” The outstanding balance of consideration receivable from the purchaser of Zhenjiang Dock Project was fully settled in the Period. In addition, according to the judgment handed down by the Intermediate People’s Court of Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province, the purchaser and the guarantors have to settle the compensation on interests and default charges on deferred and overdue consideration in 12 instalments starting from October 2012. Up to date, five instalments have been settled and net compensation income of approximately HK$9.42 million was recorded by the Group. NU International completed an open offer in December 2012, with debt gearing ratio being lowered to 24.9% and leading to a stronger financial position. As at 31 December 2012, it had net assets of HK$510 million, up 15.4% from a year ago. China’s existing capacity is far from enough to handle hazardous wastes produced, the government therefore stressed the importance of hazardous waste treatment in its environment protection efforts during the ‘Twelfth Five-year Plan Period’ and issued the 'Hazardous Waste Pollution Prevention Plan for 2011-15’ to promote the development of hazardous waste treatment industry. Moreover, the central government plans to invest RMB 430 billion on the development of sewage treatment and recycling facilities between 2011 and 2015.
