    Questions re: Ardrossan upgrade 1. Why has there been no community engagement carried out as promised? The work of the steering group undertaken since the public engagement events in October 2018 have focused on the design of the marine works which included technical elements; whereby during this period direct engagement with the Arran community has been undertaken through the Arran Ferry Committee representative. The feedback from the initial public engagement events has informed the progress made to date. Ensuring the views of the community are heard and understood is an important part of the project and there are various stages of the project at which we will engage with the community. The Ardrossan project is currently in the planning and design phase with the Steering Group members developing the marine and landside infrastructure design. Public information events are currently being arranged for January 2020 in Ardrossan and Brodick. These will provide an update on the landside infrastructure planning and design phase. North Ayrshire Council and Peel Ports Group have recently appointed a Lead Consultant Team which includes a Master planner and Architect for the landside design works. More details will follow on specific dates and times of the events. CalMac and Transport Scotland will be meeting with the AFC in the New Year to discuss service continuity and more engagement with the Ardrossan and Brodick communities will follow. 2. How much will this cost and who is paying what? The project at its current stage of development is estimated to cost between £35-£40million. The final cost of the project will not be known until the tender and procurement process has been undertaken and a contractor appointed.

    Ardrossan Harbour Redevelopment – Information Update November 2020 The Ardrossan Harbour Task Force comprised of Transport Scotland, North Ayrshire Council, Calmac Ferries Limited, Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited, Peel Ports Group and Arran Ferry Committee, is working together to complete the comprehensive upgrade and redevelopment of Ardrossan Harbour. This aims to improve facilities, operations and the resilience of the Ardrossan to Brodick and Campbeltown ferry services. We last consulted in October 2018 following the Ministerial confirmation of Ardrossan as the port for the ferry services. (S5W-28447) Paul Wheelhouse: I recognise the challenges for the oil and gas sector and their key workers where ongoing activity on our critical national infrastructure is required to protect security of energy supply. This is why we are continuing to engage constructively with Oil & Gas UK and Step Change in Safety, and held meetings of the Oil and Gas Energy Transition Strategic Leadership Group on 2 April and 7 May, with the second meeting taking up a taskforce approach. The Scottish Government has published guidance for employers and recognises the very acute challenges faced by businesses operating with the oil and gas sector during this time. However, we have also been clear that it is for employers to make decisions about what is essential work. The Scottish Government will not be providing individual businesses with specific advice as to whether they should remain open, or to determine how companies should interpret or if they are adhering to that guidance. The Scottish Government’s established priority is to prevent the spread of the virus, protect our NHS and save lives. Workplaces that do not follow the Chief Medical Officer’s clear and consistent precautionary advice may be putting their employees, the wider public and our NHS at risk. It is essential that all businesses act responsibly to safeguard the nation’s health, well-being and economic future.

    TRANSPORTATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE COMMITTEE 21 FEBRUARY 2018 VESSEL REPLACEMENT AND DEPLOYMENT PLAN – ANNUAL REPORT 2016 Report by Director of Technical Services PURPOSE OF REPORT To provide the Comhairle with an update on matters associated with the publication by Transport Scotland of the Vessel Replacement and Deployment Plan Annual Report 2016. COMPETENCE 1.1 There are no legal, financial, equalities or other constraints to the recommendations being implemented. SUMMARY 2.1 The annual review report for 2016 of the Vessel Replacement and Deployment Plan (VRDP) was published by Transport Scotland, Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd. (CMAL) and CalMac Ferries Ltd. in January 2018. 2.2 A copy of the full Report is available using the link below and an extract from the report, detailing the emerging conclusions, is included in the Appendix to the Report: https://www.transport.gov.scot/media/41509/vrdp-annual-report-2016-30-january-2018.pdf 2.3 Consistent with areas of concern highlighted by the Comhairle over several years now, the report continues to identify challenges regarding capacity utilisation on the Stornoway- Ullapool, the Uig-Tarbert-Lochmaddy and the Sound of Harris routes. Executive Summary 1.1 The Council were provided with a report on 17th January 2017 which agreed the nature of the Council’s support to facilitate the investment required at Ardrossan Harbour to ensure a continuation of the Arran and Campbeltown ferry services. This led to the submission of a prospectus to Transport Scotland making the case for the retention of the ferry services at Ardrossan Harbour over the long term. This submission informed a review of the location of the mainland port for the routes, which involved the Save Our Ferry campaign and ultimately led to confirmation of Ardrossan as the mainland port for the Arran and Campbeltown services in April 2017. 1.2 Considerable work has since been undertaken to further develop plans for investment in the Harbour infrastructure at Ardrossan. Significant analysis and technical studies have helped to consider a range of options for the configuration of the harbour infrastructure in terms of service reliability, operational efficiency and cost.
