Welcome to Our 2021 Catalogue - We Hope That You Will Find Plenty to Tempt You Welcome to our 2021 catalogue - we hope that you will find plenty to tempt you. We look forward to seeing you at the nursery! Please feel free to bring your dog with you – on a lead! HOURS OF BUSINESS We are open 9.30 am to 5pm, Wednesday to Sunday inclusive and Bank Holiday Mondays. The nursery opens January 1st 2021 until Friday June 25th to re-open January 1st 2022 At present I don’t know how next year will work with opening and visitors - so please contact the nursery before calling as restrictions and advice may change or look at the website /Facebook for up to date information. THERE WILL BE A SMALL NUMBER OF DAYS THAT THE NURSERY MAY HAVE TO CLOSE SO - PLEASE PHONE BEFORE VISITING – JUST IN CASE! REGRETFULLY WE DO NOT SUPPLY MAIL ORDERS. Groups and Coach parties are always welcome but must be pre-booked! We do not sell cuttings, all our plants are rooted and then moved onto a 7cm pot to establish, in January and February the plants will be available at £1.30 each. From the end of February onwards they will be £1.50. Please ask regarding discounts on large purchases. Whips will be sold from February. Standards and fuchsia baskets will be ready from Saturday May 1st. Prices throughout will depend on size. Larger plants may be available throughout the season - please ask. From June 3th until June 25th - there will be displays of fuchsias in flower - please come and have a browse and get ideas for next year. It is an unbeatable opportunity to see fuchsias that you will not see at shows etc. MAJOR CREDIT AND DEBIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED AT THE NURSERY From May 1st there will be a selection of Regal, Zonal and Ivy Leaf Pelargoniums for sale. As ever there are fuchsias that I have and are not in the catalogue! It is always worth asking just in case! The summer of 2012 was long, hot and brutal, with drought afflicting most of the U.S. Most of my botanical explorations were restricted to Idaho, Wash- ington, Oregon and northern California but even there moisture was below average. In a year like this, seeps, swales, springs, vestigial snowbanks and localized rainstorms became much more important in my search for seeding plants. On the Snake River Plains of southern Idaho and the scab- lands of eastern Washington, early bloomers such as Viola beckwithii, V. trinervata, Ranunculus glaberrimus, Ranunculus andersonii, Fritillaria pudica and Primula cusickiana put on quite a show in mid-April but many populations could not set seed. In northern Idaho, Erythronium idahoense flowered extensively, whole meadows were covered with thousands of the creamy, pendant blossoms. One of my most satisfying finds in the Hells Canyon area had to be Sedum valens. The tiny glaucous rosettes, surround- ed by a ring of red leaves, are a succulent connoisseur’s dream. Higher up, the brilliant blue spikes of Synthyris missurica punctuated the canyon walls. In southern Oregon, the brilliant red spikes of Pedicularis densiflora lit up the Siskiyou forest floor. Further north in Oregon, large populations of Erythronium elegans, Erythronium oregonum ssp. leucandrum, Erythro- nium revolutum, trilliums and sedums provided wonderful picture-taking opportunities. Eriogonum species did well despite the drought, many of them true xerics.

    Un Hommage à Thomas Pynchon’s Rainbow Peter Bamfield Editions Eclipse, 2012 One of the great novels of the 20th century is Thomas Pynchon’s Gravity’s Rainbow. For those interested in the use of color as a code in literature it is a positive goldmine. Consequently, many erudite essays have been written about this aspect of the work. My activity in this area has involved an examination and compilation of the phrases in which these color codes appear. Using this database I have constructed a reading of the novel based on these phrases. In carrying out this process I set myself the following constraints; . Each phrase abstracted from the novel must contain at least one color term. The words in each phrase must be in the order used by Pynchon. The phrases subsequently used to construct sentences to be in the order in which they occur in the novel. The only freedom to be in the selection of appropriate punctuation. Arguably, the four parts of the novel can be divided into a total of eighty-one episodes. I have followed this convention and hence produced eighty-one sentences covering the four parts. All the words used in this Hommage are Thomas Pynchon’s.     Magenta Mantle Personal and Environmental Regeneration The Magenta Mantle was initially introduced in response to the Oakland, California fire in 1991. This catastrophic fire destroyed 300 homes, devastating the land, the community and many people's lives. Magenta Mantle helped a number of people to cope with their loss, to reclaim land that had been devastated by fire, and to build new bonds of community. Since then, this formula has been used in many places in the world for environmental regeneration. Magenta is a color strongly associated with living forces of nature. HOURS OF BUSINESS We are open 10am to 5pm, Wednesday to Sunday inclusive and Bank Holiday Mondays. The nursery opens January 1st 2018 until June 24th to re-open January 1st 2019 THERE WILL BE A SMALL NUMBER OF DAYS THAT THE NURSERY MAY HAVE TO CLOSE – SO PLEASE PHONE BEFORE VISITING – JUST IN CASE! REGRETFULLY WE DO NOT SUPPLY MAIL ORDERS. Groups and Coach parties are always welcome but must be pre-booked! We do not sell cuttings, all our plants are rooted and then moved onto a 7cm pot to establish, in January and February the plants will be available at £1.30 each. From the end of February onwards they will be £1.70 Please ask regarding discounts on large purchases. Whips will be sold from January. Standards and fuchsia baskets will be ready from May 5th. Prices throughout will depend on size. Larger plants may be available throughout the season - please ask. From June 2nd until June 24th - there will be displays of fuchsias in flower- please come and have a browse and get ideas for next year. It is an unbeatable opportunity to see fuchsias that you will not see at shows etc. MAJOR CREDIT AND DEBIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED AT THE NURSERY From May 5th there will be a selection of Regal, Zonal and Ivy Leaf Pelargoniums for sale.
