BOTSWANA WILDLIFE SAFARI INCLUDING WORLD RENOWNED VICTORIA FALLS April 7 - 20, 2012 Join us as we discover Southern Africa! This is a wonderful safari adventure including three of the iconic spots in Southern Africa: Victoria Falls (one of the three most remarkable waterfalls in the wold), the extraordinary inland wildlife reserve on the Okavango Delta, and Chobe National Park on the Zambezi River (of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor fame!). Victoria Falls must be seen to be believed! The Zambezi plunges into a long gorge (the photo shows just a small part of the falls!). The Okavango Delta is haven for African wildlife from elephants to lions seen by canoe, 4-wheel drive, or on foot. Chobe has one of the largest elephant populations in the world. Fly in light planes to safari camps and lodges. Photos courtesy of SunSafaris. ITINERARY DAY 1 NEW YORK - JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA Sat Apr 7 Depart New York JFK International Airport on a morning flight for Johannesburg. DAY 2 JOHANNESBURG Sun Apr 8 Arrive Johannesburg in the early morning and transfer to your hotel (1 night). Stow you luggage and explore the largest city in South Africa with more than six million people. Johannesburg is a city of contrasts with wealthy suburbs and commercial centers alongside informal settlements, Indian bazaars and African muti (medicine) shops, where traditional healers dispense advice and traditional medicine. Johannesburg is in Gauteng Province. “Gauteng” is a Sotho word meaning Place of Gold. It is the smallest of the South Africa’s nine provinces, but is the center for commercial business and governance. South Africa’s wealth is based primarily in the Golden Reef that makes up the Witwatersrand (Ridge of White Waters), of which Johannesburg is the centre. The city’s history dates back to 1886, when gold was discovered in this area. Join in an optional Soweto tour, visit the Apartheid Museum or relax at the hotel’s spa. DAY 3 JOHANNESBURG - VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE Mon Apr 9 This morning, transfer to the airport for your flight from Jo’burg to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Road transfer from the Victoria Falls airport to Ilala Lodge (2 nights) in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The Ilala Lodge is situated a mere 10 minutes by foot from one of the natural wonders of the world - Victoria Falls! The National Park borders the front of the hotel property and wild animals often graze on the hotel lawns with the spray of the falls in the background. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure to explore the mighty waterfall. (B) DAY 4 VICTORIA FALLS Tue Apr 10 On the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, Victoria Falls has some of the most breathtaking views you’ll encounter on the African continent! The massive sheet of falling water and the spray it produces is mesmerizing to say the least. Today you may choose, sign up and pay for local excursions and activities from boat trips on the Zambezi River to a village tour or a scenic flight over the falls. Explore the African wilderness as Dr. Livingstone did so many years ago. (B) DAY 5 VICTORIA FALLS - CHOBE, BOTSWANA Wed Apr 11 Transfer by road from Victoria Falls to Elephant Valley Lodge (3 nights safari tent). (B,D) The lodge has a very active waterhole frequented by numerous species, including elephant, lion, buffalo, and leopard. These sightings present superb photographic opportunities from the comfort and safety of the viewing hide or the lodge’s main deck areas. The Chobe National Park in Botswana is home to the largest elephant population in the world. This magnificent reserve draws life from the Chobe River and is surrounded by protected wildlife sanctuaries. As the region is barrier free, this allows for large numbers of big game to move freely through these protected reserves. Straddling the game rich area between Chobe and Zimbabwe’s Matetsi reserve lies the Kasane Forest Reserve.
