Michael Strautmanis Vice President of Strategic Programs for Corporate Citizenship The Walt Disney Company Michael oversees Disney Citizenship’s strategic programs, with the goal of maintaining Disney’s reputation as one of the most admired and socially responsible companies in the world. Prior to joining The Walt Disney Company, Michael worked for President Barack Obama for nearly a decade. He first met the President and Mrs. Obama during their work together in the Chicago legal community, and served as a top advisor to the President from his earliest days in the Senate and throughout his journey to the White House. In the White House, Michael served as a Deputy Assistant to the President and Counselor for Strategic Engagement to the President’s Senior Advisor, Valerie Jarrett. In this role, he helped build partnerships with nonprofits and community organizations across the nation, and was an important architect of the President’s agenda on fatherhood, mentoring, and youth violence. Michael worked closely with Ms. Jarrett to develop strong working relationships with leaders from the business and advocacy community, academia, and philanthropy. Prior to working with President Obama, Michael practiced law in Chicago and served in the Clinton Administration as an advisor to the General Counsel at the United States Agency for International Development. Michael received a B.S. from the University of Illinois, and a J.D. from the University Of Illinois College Of Law. Today, Michael lives in Southern California with his family, and serves on the Board of Directors of the LA River Revitalization Corporation. .

Obama Transition Team
President-Elect Barack Obama and Vice President-Elect Joe Biden Today Announced its Leadership For the Transition of Administrations Chicago -- For the past several months, a board of advisors has been informally planning for a possible presidential transition. Among the many projects undertaken by the transition board have been detailed analyses of previous transition efforts, policy statements made during the campaign, and the workings of federal government agencies, and priority positions that must be filled by the incoming administration. With Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s election, this planning process will be now be formally organized as the Obama-Biden Transition Project, a 501(c)(4) organization to ensure a smooth transition from one administration to the next. The work of this entity will be overseen by three co- chairs: John Podesta, Valerie Jarrett, and Pete Rouse. The co-chairs will be assisted by an advisory board comprised of individuals with significant private and public sector experience: Carol Browner, William Daley, Christopher Edley, Michael Froman, Julius Genachowski, Donald Gips, Governor Janet Napolitano, Federico Peña, Susan Rice, Sonal Shah, Mark Gitenstein, and Ted Kaufman. 06/29/2018, 08:13pm Obama Foundation hires diversity consultant: Brother of former Mayor Sawyer By Lynn Sweet chicago.suntimes.com WASHINGTON – Ending a search launched last fall, the Obama Foundation announced Friday it hired a diversity consultant to monitor whether foundation pledges about minority hiring and contracting for the Obama Presidential Center — especially from Chicago’s South and West sides — are being met. The Chicago firm the foundation picked, Ernest R. Sawyer Enterprises Inc., takes on one of the most sensitive assignments connected to the development of the Obama Center in Jackson Park, with the tab just for the construction expected to range from $300 million to $350 million. Sawyer, the founder of the firm, is a former Chicago Transit Authority executive who is the brother of former Mayor Eugene Sawyer and the uncle of Ald. Rod Sawyer, whose 6thWard is on the South Side. Mishaune Sawyer, a daughter-in-law, is general counsel and senior project manager at the firm and Tai Sawyer, a niece, is a project manager at the company. Last year, former President Barack Obama said his foundation would not sign a community benefits agreement with neighborhood and other groups concerned that, despite promises, they will be shortchanged. The foundation earlier this year laid out a series of self-imposed contracting promises. Some 51 percent of the construction business is earmarked for minority-owned firms in Chicago. The benchmark is for at least half of the subcontractors to be diverse suppliers with set asides for racial minorities and women, veterans, the disabled, ex-offenders and LGBTQ individuals.
