Compton was designed in 1895–6 for Compton Hall in Wolverhampton, England, the home of Laurence Hodson, and it was probably the result of a joint Compton furnishing fabric, J.H. Dearle (1859–1932), effort between William Morris (1834–96) England, 1896 and his assistant J.H.
