FOR USE AS DESIRED 8/1/16 NFL NAMES TOM COUGHLIN SENIOR ADVISOR

Two-time winning head coach TOM COUGHLIN has been named Senior Advisor to Football Operations, the announced today.

Coughlin served as head coach of the from 1995-2002 and then guided the from 2004-2015, including victories in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI. He will work closely with NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations TROY VINCENT on a variety of issues to support and improve the game.

“We are incredibly pleased to add someone of Coach Coughlin’s experience and character to our staff,” said NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL. “His passion for football is evident and we are confident he will contribute a great deal to the betterment of the game for current and future players as well as for fans at every level of our sport.”

Coughlin will advise game-related league committees, including Competition, Health and Safety, Coaches Subcommittee, General Managers Advisory, Combine Review and NCAA Rules and Oversight. He will provide strategic guidance on other matters, including playing rules, coaching techniques, and the development of football personnel, while also providing insight on the operation of the NFL Draft and .

Coughlin, who played at Syracuse and served as a head coach at the collegiate level at the Rochester Institute of Technology (1970-73) and (1991-93), will play a significant role in the NFL’s relationship with the college football community, collaborating on best practices and the implementation and development of technology as a means to improve the game.

“We are excited to have Coach Coughlin’s football experience, coaching knowledge and insight on the Football Operations team,” Vincent said. “His input is invaluable as we seek to support our clubs, coaches, and players, and develop the future of our game.”

In addition to his NFL head coaching experience, Coughlin served as an NFL assistant coach in Philadelphia (1984-85), Green Bay (1986-87) and with the Giants (1988-90).

Coughlin’s achievements on the field – including compiling an NFL head coaching record of 182-157, the 11th-most wins by a coach in league history – are only rivaled by the incredible support and compassion he exudes for families tackling childhood cancer through his work with his Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation.
