Bios 5 12 15.Indd Coaching Staff Pat Flaherty Off ensive Line Coach, New York Giants Pat Flaherty is one of nine children and the son of long-time Delone Catholic High School Football Coach and Athletic Director, J.T. Flaherty. Flaherty attended St. Vincent de Paul grade school, Delone Catholic High School and East Stroudsburg University. He played football for Delone Catholic High School and went on to perform as an All American Center at East Strousburg University. Flaherty then returned home to begin his coaching career at his alma mater, Delone Catholic High School from 1978-80. In 1980, he returned to his alma mater East Strousburg University as an off ensive line coach. In 1982, Flaherty joined the Penn State coach- ing staff as an assistant to off ensive line coach Dick Anderson. During that year, Flaherty helped the Nittany Lions win the 1982 National Championship with a Sugar Bowl victory over Georgia. When Coach Anderson left Penn State to become the head coach at Rutgers University prior to the 1984 season, Flaherty joined him on the Scarlet Knights' staff , where he remained through the 1991 season. Flaherty spent the 1992 season coaching the defensive line at East Carolina. From 1993-98 he was on the staff at Wake Forest, where he coached the of- fensive line, tight ends and special teams. In 1999, he coached tight ends and special teams and was in charge of recruiting at the University of Iowa. He arrived in the National Football League in 2000 as tight ends coach for the Washington Redskins; he then fi lled that role for the Chicago Bears before Coach Tom Coughlin hired him as part of his fi rst staff in 2004 for the New York Giants. Flaherty has more than 30 years of football coaching experience, and is now in his 16th season as an NFL coach and his 12th season as the New York Giants Off ensive Line Coach. He joins David Merritt and Jerry Palmieri as the only coaches who have been with the Giants for Tom Coughlin’s entire 11-year tenure as head coach. Th e Giants have consistently had one of the NFL’s best and most dependable off ensive lines during Flaherty’s tenure. Th e team’s off ense has been ranked among the top eight in the NFL in four of the last six years, and the Giants had at least two linemen selected to the Pro Bowl in three of those seasons. Flaherty was a major part of two of the Giants four Super Bowl titles. Coach Pat Flaherty along with his dad, J.T. Flaherty, are in the Adams County Sports Hall of Fame. He and his wife, Lynne, have two children. Shawn is a sophomore off ensive lineman at Towson University, and Colleen is a freshman at Loyola University in Baltimore. Dick Anderson Assistant Coach, OL/Guards and Centers Pennsylvania State University Dick Anderson spent 12 seasons at the Penn State working with the centers and guards. He played an instrumental role in the development of guard/center Stefen Wisniewski into a 2010 fi rst-team All-American and three-time All-Big Ten performer. In 2008, under Anderson's tutelage, center A.Q. Shipley became the program's fi rst Remington Trophy recipient. Anderson has helped mold units that have paved the way for eight 1,000-yard rushers since 2002, including one in each of the past seven seasons. He coached the quarterbacks from 1993-99, with his initial two pupils -- Kerry Collins and Wally Richardson -- matriculating to the NFL, with Collins leading the New York Giants to Super Bowl XXXV. Anderson returned to Penn State in 1990 after six seasons as head coach at Rutgers, working with the off ensive line from 1990-92. He turned out some exceptional performers during his 1973-83 stint on the Penn State staff , including Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Munchak, head coach of the Tennessee Titans. From Queens, N.Y., Anderson played both ways at end for Coach Rip Engle at Penn State from 1960-62. Anderson's tenure at Rutgers included a 21-16 win over Penn State in 1988, the Scarlet Knights' fi rst win in the series in 70 years. • Administration of Barack Obama, 2012 Remarks Honoring the 2012 Super
Administration of Barack Obama, 2012 Remarks Honoring the 2012 Super Bowl Champion New York Giants June 8, 2012 Hello, everybody! Everybody, please have a seat. Welcome to the White House, and congratulations to the Super Bowl champion New York Giants. We've got some Members of Congress and members of my administration who are here today and rabid Giants fans. I want to also recognize the Maras and the Tisches, as well as, of course, head coach Tom Coughlin and general manager Jerry Reese. They have built this team into one of the NFL's most outstanding franchises. So we are very proud of them. Now, I know for some of you, this is just, welcome back. [Laughter] You guys have been through this drill before. The last time the Giants were here was in 2008. A lot of folks thought that team didn't have a chance to win a Super Bowl. They ended up winning with a circus catch in the fourth quarter, MVP performance by Eli Manning, a come-from-behind win over the Patriots. So this is all starting to sound kind of like deja vu all over again. But every season's different, and last year's Giants were obviously a special bunch, not just because of where they ended up, but because of how they got there. Every team has to deal with injuries to the players. Not many teams have to deal with a late hit on the head coach. [Laughter] You saw that Jets game. Now, Coach Coughlin reminds everybody, he did not go down.
