Preface The 57th annual meeting of the European Association for Animal Production (EAAP) is held in Antalya, Turkey, 17 to 20 September 2006. The annual EAAP meeting gives the opportunity to present new scientific results and discuss their potential applicability in animal production practices. This year’s meeting is of particular interest to participants from a wide range of animal production organisations and institutions. Discussions stimulate developments in animal production and encourage research on relevant topics. In Turkey the main theme of the meeting is “Sustaining production systems to improve the livelihoods (health, well being, wealth) of livestock farmers”. In total 35 sessions are planned. The book of abstracts is the main publication of the scientific contributions to this meeting; it covers a wide range of disciplines and livestock species. It contains the full programme and abstracts of the invited as well as the contributing speakers, including posters, of all 35 sessions. The number of abstracts submitted for presentation at this meeting (710) is a true challenge for the different study commissions and chairpersons to put together a scientific programme. This year, special attention has been given to the quality of the abstracts. Therefore, quite a few have been rejected and others had to be revised before publishing. Several persons have been involved in the development of the book of abstracts. Wageningen Academic Publishers has been responsible for organising the administrative and editing work and the production of the book. The contact persons of the study commissions have been responsible for organising the scientific programme and communicating with the chairpersons and invited speakers. Their help and that of Cled Thomas in the programme of all free communications is highly appreciated. The programme is very interesting and I trust we will have a good meeting in Antalya. I hope that you will find this book a useful reference source as well as a reminder of a good meeting during which a large number of people actively involved in livestock science and production will meet and exchange ideas. Ynze van der Honing Editor-in Chief EAAP – 57th Annual Meeting, Antalya 2006 VII EAAP Program Foundation Aims EAAP aims to bring to our annual meetings, speakers who can present the latest findings and views on developments in the various fields of science relevant to animal production and its allied industries. In order to sustain the quality of the scientific program that will continue to entice the broad interest in EAAP meetings we have created the “EAAP Program Foundation”. This Foundation aims to support: • Invited speakers with a high international profile by funding part or all of registration and travel costs. • Delegates from less favoured areas by offering scholarships to attend EAAP meetings • Young scientists by providing prizes for best presentations The “EAAP Program Foundation” is an initiative of the Scientific Committee (SC) of EAAP. The Foundation aims to stimulating the quality of the scientific program of the EAAP meetings and to ensure that the science meets societal needs. The Foundation Board of Trustees oversees theses aims and seeks to recruit sponsors to support its activities. Sponsorships We distinguish three categories of sponsorship: “Gold Sponsor”, “Sponsor” and “Student Award Sponsor”. The sponsors will be acknowledged in an appropriate way during the scientific sessions. The names of Student Award sponsors will be linked to the awards given to young scientists with the best presentation. ”Gold Sponsors” and “Sponsors” will have opportunity to advertise their activities during the meeting and their support for EAAP. Board of Trustees Chair Vice-Chair Treasurer/Secretary Prof Cled Thomas Prof Johan van Arendonk Dr Andrea Rosati Chair S.C. EAAP Wageningen University EAAP Secretary General The Netherlands Italy The association EAAP, (The European Federation of Animal Science), organises every year an international meeting which attracts between 800 and 1000 people. The main aims of EAAP are to promote, by means of active co-operation between its members and other relevant international and national organisations, the advancement of scientific research, sustainable development and systems of production; experimentation, application and extension; to improve the technical and economic conditions of the livestock sector; to promote the welfare of farm animals and the conservation of the rural environment; to control and optimise the use of natural resources in general and animal genetic resources in particular; to encourage the involvement of young scientists and technicians. Nat. Croat., Vol. 30, No. 1, 37–52, 2021, Zagreb. From 2016 to 2020 numerous surveys were undertaken to improve the knowledge of the pyraloid moth fauna of Biokovo Nature Park. On August 27th, 2020 one specimen of Psorosa mediterranella (Amsel, 1954) from the family Pyralidae was collected on a small meadow (985 m a.s.l.) on Mt Biok- ovo. In this paper, the first data about the occurrence of this species in Croatia are presented. The previ- ous mention in the literature for Croatia was considered to be a misidentification of the past and has thus not been included in the checklist of Croatian pyraloid moth species. P. mediterranella was recorded for the first time in Croatia in recent investigations and, after other additions to the checklist have been counted, is the 396th species in the Croatian pyraloid moth fauna. An overview of the overall pyraloid moth fauna of Croatia is given in the updated species list. Culliney United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Plant Protection and Quarantine Center for Plant Health Science and Technology Plant Epidemiology and Risk Analysis Laboratory 1730 Varsity Drive, Suite 300 Raleigh, North Carolina 27606 PRA for Barhi dates from Israel Executive Summary This document assesses the risks associated with the importation, from Israel into the United States, of fresh fruits of date, Phoenix dactylifera L., on branches. A search of both print and electronic sources of information identified 12 pests of date of quarantine significance that exist in Israel and could be introduced into the United States in shipments of that commodity. A Consequences of Introduction value was estimated by assessing five elements that reflect the biology and ecology of the pests: climate/host interaction, host range, dispersal potential, economic impact, and environmental impact. A Likelihood of Introduction value was estimated by considering both the quantity of the commodity imported annually and the potential for pest introduction and establishment. The two values were summed to estimate an overall Pest Risk Potential, which is an estimation of risk in the absence of mitigation measures. Quarantine-significant pests likely to follow the pathway (i.e., accompany shipments of dates) include two moths, one butterfly, one

  • A Provisional Checklist and Bibliography of the Pyraloidea of the Balkan Peninsula (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae & Crambidae) by Colin W
Atalanta 49 (1-4): 219-263, Marktleuthen (1. September 2018), ISSN 0171-0079 A provisional checklist and bibliography of the Pyraloidea of the Balkan Peninsula (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae & Crambidae) by COLIN W. PLANT & PREDRAG JAKšIć received 28.V.2018 Abstract: A literature search was undertaken by us to locate all published data on the Pyraloidea (Lepidoptera: Crambidae & Pyralidae) of the Balkan Peninsula of south-east Europe. All known paper publications to the end of June 2018 were researched. All publications apparently containing relevant data were read and scrutinised by us and valid data extracted to a database. With the exception of the Fauna Europaea and Lepiforum websites, electronic sources were not searched, because initial examination suggested that these were likely to include non-corroborated data. From the results of this exercise, a checklist of 569 species of Py- raloidea recorded in the Balkans (310 Crambidae and 259 Pyralidae) was created along with a bibliography of the 426 works con- sulted. Forty-four of the species in the checklist (~8%) were not included for the same area in a 1996 European checklist; this may reflect a genuine change in the fauna over the last quarter century. Some updating of nomenclature and related matters has been undertaken, but we have done only minimal checking of the data itself to eliminate any incorrect records. It should be noted that no attempt has been made to determine if the listed species remain extant within each country at year 2018 nor is any comment made concerning present-day status of any species. Both the checklist and the bibliography are regarded as provisional; a database will be maintained by the authors and will be updated from time to time.
