On the occasion of 80th birthday of His Holiness Late Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb RA , Burhani Foundation was established by Syedna in 1992 which conducts and sponsors projects related to environmental research and preservation of natural resources.

The late Syedna had advocated for the conservation of nature and had strongly emphasized on avoidance of envi- ronmental degradation. His realistic and result-oriented guidelines for the safeguarding of the eco-system and con- trolling pollution have been seminal in environmental schemes setup in India and elsewhere.

From the dry interiors of in India to the mountainous terrain of where the Mausolea of Dawoodi Bohra saints are located, horticulture, apiculture and agriculture projects such as greenhouses, terrace cultivation, plantations, rain water harvesting and lush landscapes have been extensively undertaken under the late Syedna and now his successor His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin Saheb (TUS) ‘s directives and guidance. An Inter School Competition on “How Safe Is Your Water?” was held for high school students. 61 centers in India were selected for this event. BFI conducted a Competition for Dawoodi Bohra Women with the pur- pose of bringing out the latent talents of womenfolk who have tremendous potentialities to advance the cause of environment meaningfully by not only spreading the message of environment awareness but by implementing the essential environmental norms both in their homes as well as in society. The competition was enthusiastically received in the four major States of , , and Rajasthan, where it was organ- ized by the local women’s organizations under the guidance of BFI, the re- A series of “Environmental Awareness Workshops” was launched. Students had to undertake a survey of any recreation area, natural water bodies or historical/heritage site and learn about its history, environmental problems it is facing and its solutions. An “Enviro Quiz” and “Tree Plantation Programme” BFI sponsored an Eye Camp organized by Dr Mustafa Parekh in Khambat.
