My Dear Friends 2nd Trinity 14 You have been marvellous during the nine months the Bishop asked me to look after the spiritual well-being of the newly-formed Matlaske Benefice. My special thanks to the good souls of 9.30 Eucharist BCP Matlaske Saxthorpe and Edgefield - we didn't really know one another at all on New Year's Eve 2017 when 11.00 Matins BCP Baconsthorpe I was licensed on that dark evening in Saxthorpe Church, but I've got to know a whole new lot of th friends. Baconsthorpe, Barningham Winter, Hempstead, Matlaske and Plumstead have been part 9 Trinity 15 of my life since 2009 so they know me, warts and all! 9.30 Eucharist CW Saxthorpe So many people have been there to support me - first of all Jo, whose wise listening ear has always 11.00 Eucharist North Barningham been there, then Su Summers who has been marvellous with rotas (never an enviable job because BCP you really can't please everybody all the time). The Wardens have been first rate too, and their job 16th Trinity 16 has evolved tremendously in recent years. And what a joy to work with Heather and Vanessa in 'Open the Book' at Corpusty School on Monday mornings. And how dreary the services would be 9.30 Eucharist CW TL Edgefield without music - Su and the Benefice Choir have brought so much to our services - Richard, James 11.00 Morning Prayer CW Plumstead and Andrew have played for so many services. How lucky you are to have such talent in your midst. 6.00 Choral Evensong Matlaske I would ask you to make a special effort to come to Evensong at Matlaske on Sunday 16th September Preacher: Revd Professor Peter Galloway, Her Majesty’s Chaplain of the Savoy when the Revd Professor Peter Galloway, her Majesty's Chaplain of the Savoy will preach. Peter (Patron of Matlaske and Plumstead) has been a good friend to Matlaske and Plumstead in his role as Patron to both churches. 23rd Trinity 17 I wish the Benefice every success for the future and I know you will make David Longe very welcome. I'm pretty sure I will have other things to do - clergy never really retire. Priesthood is 9.30 Eucharist CW TL Hempstead for life. 6.00 Michael's last service - Choral Evensong Baconsthorpe Meanwhile my wife joins me in sending love and best wishes to you all. The Churchwardens thank Michael and Jo most sincerely for their work in our Parishes over the last nine months and wish them well Every Blessing th Father Michael 30 Trinity 18 Rev Michael Cartwright’s last service as Priest in Charge will be on Sunday 23rd September, 6.00pm at St Mary's Baconsthorpe 9.30 Eucharist BCP Baconsthorpe 6.00 Benefice Harvest Festival Edgefield Norwich Diocese Branch - Autumn Church Visit th St Mary's Church Baconsthorpe 7 Oct Trinity 19 th 2.30pm Thursday 13 September 9.30 Eucharist BCP Barningham Winter All Sorts

annual review 2009–2010 visitchurches.org.uk The Churches Conservation Trust is the national charity protecting historic churches at risk. We’ve saved over 340 beautiful buildings, which attract more than 1.5 million visitors a year. With our help and with your support they are kept open and in use – living once again at the heart of their communities. Our priorities over the five years 2009-15 are to: • Sustain our historic churches conserving and adapting them for 21st-century communities • Encourage people to enjoy, visit, use and care for our churches • Grow the Trust, its skills, partnerships and income; and • Share our learning Of our £6 million expenditure, this year we spent 67% on repairs, and 23% on supporting volunteers and opening churches. That’s 90% on frontline activities.
