Notes on the distribution of Augyles marmota (Kiesenwetter, 1850) (Heteroceridae), Trichodes punctatus Fischer von Waldheim, 1829 (Cleridae), Laena reitteri Weise, 1877 (Tenebrionidae), Brachysomus ornatus Stierlin, 1892, Lixus cylindrus (Fabricius, 1781) (Curculionidae), Mylacomorphus globus (Seidlitz, 1868) (Curculionidae) are given. Beetles in Old Growth Forests: Perspectives from the Townshend Woodlot, Prince Edward Island Christopher G
J. Acad. Entomol. Soc. 6: 39-43 (2010) NOTE Beetles in old growth forests: perspectives from the Townshend Woodlot, Prince Edward Island Christopher G. Majka Three hundred years of European settlement have dramatically altered the forests of the Maritime Provinces of Canada. Perhaps nowhere has the impact been greater than on Prince Edward Island (PEI). Pre-colonial PEI was largely dominated by old growth forests consisting of American beech (Fagus grandifolia Ehrh. (Fagaceae)), sugar maple (Acer saccharum Marsh. (Sapindaceae)) and yellow birch (Betula alleghaniensis Britt. (Betulaceae)), with smaller components of red spruce (Picea rubens Sarg. (Pinaceae)), eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis (L.) Carr. (Pinaeceae)), red oak (Quercus rubra L. (Fagaceae)), white pine (Pinus strobus L. (Pinaceae)) and balsam fir (Abies balsamea (L.) Mill. (Pinaceae)) (MacQuarrie and Lacroix 2003; Sobey and Glen 2004). By early in the eighteenth century, significant cutting of the forest had started and large areas of the island were burnt. By 1900, 70% of the island’s forests had been cleared and the remaining 30% was highly fragmented and extensively disturbed (PEI Department of Agriculture and Forestry 1997; Loo and Ives 2003). In 1960, 60% of the land on the island was devoted to agriculture and a further 8% was otherwise open (unimproved waste land, marsh, barren, etc.) leaving only 32% as forest (Erskine 1960). Since then, farm abandonment has led to some re-growth so that by 1992, 57% of the land was forested (Anonymous 1992). Even where land has not been cleared, the best trees have been removed for generations, leaving a generally impoverished forest, both in terms of genetic quality and of species diversity. -

Munis Entomology & Zoology, 11 (2): 682-690] ABSTRACT: This work is presented a comparative list of the leaf beetles of the provinces in Marmara Region of Turkey, excluding Bruchinae. All known taxa from the provinces in Marmara Region of Turkey and thereby European Turkey are given in the present text. KEY WORDS: Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, European Turkey, Marmara Region, Turkey Any direct research on leaf beetles in Marmara Region of Turkey is not present. Therefore fauna of leaf beetles in Marmara Region of Turkey is not sufficiently known. Chiefly, a complete faunistic information about all the leaf beetle taxa established in European Turkey in Marmara Region of Turkey was firstly published by Löbl & Smetana (2010) in their Palaearctic catalogue of Chrysomeloidea. Then, an important study titled “Checklist of leaf beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) of Turkey, excluding Bruchinae” was published by Ekiz et al. (2013). Later works were published by Özdikmen (2014a,b,c), Özdikmen & Kaya (2014), Özdikmen & Mercan (2014), Özdikmen & Cihan (2014), Özdikmen & Özbek (2014), Özdikmen & Kavak (2014) and Özdikmen & Topcu (2014). Although the mentioned studies helped to determine the list of leaf beetles from the provinces in Marmara Region of Turkey, the list needs further corrections to be fully and correctly realized. -

Abstract. -The first detailed morphological description and illustrations are presented for the larva of a species of Systena (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Alticinae), S. blanda (Melsheimer). Cavey 6207 Guthrie Court Eldersburg, Maryland 21784 Submitted June 2004 Abstract A survey was funded by the Cove Point Natural Heritage Trust to document the leaf beetles (Insecta: Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) of the Cove Point Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Limited Partnership Site in Calvert County, Maryland. The survey was conducted during periods of seasonal beetle activity from March 2002 to October 2003. The survey detected 92 leaf beetle species, including two species not formerly recorded for the State of Maryland and 55 additional species new to Calvert County. The detection of the rare flea beetle, Glyptina maritima Fall, represents only the third recorded collection of this species and the only recorded collection in the past 32 years. Dichanthelium (Panicum) dichromatum (L.) Gould is reported as the larval host plant of the leaf-mining hispine beetle Glyphuroplata pluto (Newman), representing the first such association for this beetle. Introduction This manuscript summarizes work completed in a two year survey effort begun in March 2002 to document the leaf beetles (Insecta: Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) of the Cove Point Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Limited Partnership Site in Calvert County, Maryland, USA. Fieldwork for this study was conducted under contract with the Cove Point Natural Heritage Trust, dated February 28, 2002.
