In particular, this essay tries to model and evaluate experimentally an equation for estimating the emptying period of a clepsydra with the shape of a truncated cone with an orifice on the centre of its base. En esta monografía se tratará de determinar hasta qué punto son válidos los argumentos de esa sección de la población contraria a la consideración de nuevos medios tecnológicos tales como los videojuegos como arte. OrTj5 Mejores monografías de Bachillerato Internacional Sumario Página 5 Editorial El lector tiene delante una nueva edición de Orbis Tertius Junior, una revista que es fiel reflejo del extraordinario y riguroso trabajo de investigación que desarrollan nuestros alumnos en el marco del Programa de Diploma del Bachillerato Internacional (IB). Para la comunidad educativa SEK es una satisfacción presentarles una muestra representativa del esfuerzo, la ilusión y el empeño por aprender que nuestros docentes y estudiantes ponen, cada día, en el aula. Se trata de una selección de las monografías que han obtenido mejor calificación en los exámenes de mayo de 2015. Son trabajos originales realizados por los alumnos de último año de bachillerato. Las monografías, cumpliendo los requerimientos que establece del Programa de Diploma, son trabajos de investigación realizados por los alumnos, con elección en el tema y con el imperativo de no superar las 4.000 palabras. El objetivo –de acuerdo con las directrices del IB– es “fomentar el desarrollo de habilida- des de nivel superior en materia de investigación, redacción, descubrimiento intelectual y creatividad”. Estos proyectos de investigación representan, en realidad, un auténtico reto para sus autores, jóvenes que cursan el último año de su educación escolar. Elegir una línea de investigación, documentarse, indagar y descubrir constituye en sí mismo un enriquecedor ejercicio intelectual que permite al alumno poner a prueba su constancia, su perspicacia y sus capacidades de organización, de com- prensión crítica y de toma de decisiones. En esta apasionante aventura nuestros alumnos no están solos. Cuentan con el inestimable apoyo de profesores que les orientan en el proceso de aprendizaje, les guían y les aconsejan en su investiga- ción, les alientan a perseguir los objetivos prestablecidos y alientan a encontrar el modo de contrastar las hipótesis planteadas. Quiero felicitar sinceramente a todos los alumnos que pusieron lo mejor de sí en estas monografías y obtuvieron el reconocimiento del IB por la labor desarrollada. Editar esta revista y publicar algunos de los trabajos más valiosos es la mejor manera que encontramos en SEK International Schools de agradecer el afán de superación intelectual que ha guiado a nuestros alumnos y que destila, desde luego, cada una de las páginas de estas monografías. Y teniendo en cuenta que García Márquez vivió en la ciudad natal de la artista la mayor parte de su vida. En respuesta a la pregunta de investigación se buscan críticas, pa- sajes en novelas y simbología en la literatura y el arte de ambos iconos, para así establecer una relación entre ellos: entre los idea- les políticos de ambos, la manifestación del patriotismo, similitu- Mejores monografías de Bachillerato Internacional des entre los movimientos artísticos a los que ambos pertenecían, características similares en el detalle que ambos plasman en sus manifestaciones artísticas, también similitudes en la sexualidad, en la representación de la muerte, en la identidad propia y en la estructura por parte de ambos. No obstante, no todas las relaciones mencionadas previamente son desarrolladas de la misma forma por parte de los dos personajes. Se concluye que Frida Kahlo es un icono perfecto que influye en García Márquez, para el cual, ella es una musa e inspiración a la hora de escribir sus novelas. Por otra parte, se observa que García Márquez, desde su llegada a México, desarrolla aun más las carac- terísticas mencionadas previamente. Chile) case.1 This judgment addresses a number of important issues in relation to the delimitation of maritime bound- aries, including the treatment of existing maritime boundaries, the use of the three-stage methodology and the procedure of the ICJ. This contribution out- lines the background to the dispute and aims to analyse the main issues arising from the judgment. Background to the Dispute The maritime dispute between Peru and Chile can be traced back to the time the countries obtained independence from Spain. However, it was the discov- ery of guano along the coastline of the Atacama Desert and the subsequent inland exploration for nitrate that contributed to the territorial tensions in the region, and which ultimately changed the political map of South America. In Fig. 4.A.1 the ship is just passing the Main Lighthouse as it blinks in response to a signal from the North lighthouse located at one light second (about 186,000 miles or EXACTLY 299,792,458 meters) above Main. (Such exactitude is the result of 1970-80 work by Ken Evenson's lab at NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder) and adopted by International Standards Committee in 1984.) Now the speed of light c is a constant by civil law as well as physical law! This came about because time and frequency measurement became so much more precise than distance measurement that it was decided to define the meter in terms of c.     Unifying the Hyperbolic and Spherical 2-Body Problem with Biquaternions Philip Arathoon December 2020 Abstract The 2-body problem on the sphere and hyperbolic space are both real forms of holo- morphic Hamiltonian systems defined on the complex sphere. This admits a natural description in terms of biquaternions and allows us to address questions concerning the hyperbolic system by complexifying it and treating it as the complexification of a spherical system. In this way, results for the 2-body problem on the sphere are readily translated to the hyperbolic case. For instance, we implement this idea to completely classify the relative equilibria for the 2-body problem on hyperbolic 3-space for a strictly attractive potential. Background and outline The case of the 2-body problem on the 3-sphere has recently been considered by the author in [1]. This treatment takes advantage of the fact that S3 is a group and that the action of SO(4) on S3 is generated by the left and right multiplication of S3 on itself. This allows for a reduction in stages, first reducing by the left multiplication, and then reducing an intermediate space by the residual right-action. An advantage of this reduction-by-stages is that it allows for a fairly straightforward derivation of the relative equilibria solutions: the relative equilibria may first be classified in the intermediate reduced space and then reconstructed on the original phase space. For the 2-body problem on hyperbolic space the same idea does not apply. Hyperbolic 3-space H3 cannot be endowed with an isometric group structure and the symmetry group SO(1; 3) does not arise as a direct product of two groups.

A two-dimensional number system arises of the form z = x + iy. Spacetime numbers are based upon the simple relation j = 1, with the corresponding two-dimensional number system z = x + jt. It seems odd that anything useful can come from this simple idea, since the solutions of our j equation are the familiar real numbers +1 and -1. However, many interesting applications arise from these new numbers. The most useful aspect of spacetime numbers is in solving problems in the areas of special and general relativity. These areas deal with the notion of space-time, hence the name "spacetime numbers." My goal is to explain in a direct, yet simple manner, the use of these special numbers.

Chile) Summary of the Judgment of 27 January 2014 Chronology of the procedure (paras. 1-15) The Court recalls that, on 16 January 2008, the Republic of Peru (hereinafter “Peru”) filed in the Registry of the Court an Application instituting proceedings against the Republic of Chile (hereinafter “Chile”) in respect of a dispute concerning, on the one hand, “the delimitation of the boundary between the maritime zones of the two States in the Pacific Ocean, beginning at a point on the coast called Concordia . the terminal point of the land boundary established pursuant to the Treaty . of 3 June 1929” and, on the other, the recognition in favour of Peru of a “maritime zone lying within 200 nautical miles of Peru’s coast” and which should thus appertain to it, “but which Chile considers to be part of the high seas”. I. GEOGRAPHY (para. 16) The area within which the delimitation sought is to be carried out lies in the Pacific Ocean. In that region, Peru’s coast runs in a north-west direction from the starting-point of the land boundary between the Parties on the Pacific coast and Chile’s generally follows a north-south orientation. Introduction On 16.1.2008, the Republic of Peru filed in the Registry of the International Court of Justice in the Hague (hereinafter “the ICJ”, “the Court”) an application instituting proceedings against the Republic of Chile in respect of a dispute concerning, on the one hand, “the delimitation of the boundary between the maritime zones of the two States in the Pacific Ocean, beginning at a point on the coast called Concordia” and, on the other, the recognition in favour of Peru of a “maritime zone lying within 200 nautical miles of Peru’s coast” and which should thus appertain to it, “but which Chile considers to be part of the high seas”. The dispute is one of a long line of controversies arising from the Pacific War La( Guerra del Pacífico, 1879-1883), a conflict over control of the nitrate industry in the Atacama desert, which has marred the two States’ relations since the late 19th century. The Pacific War is still remembered painfully in the societies of both States, so the public response to the ICJ’s judgment has been loud and often rather emotional. He obtained results relating pairs of conjugate semi-diameters and in particular considered the implications of the scalar product of two bivectors being zero. This paper is an attempt to develop a similar formulation for hyperbolas by the use of jay-vectors — a jay-vector is a linear combination a +jb of real vectors a and b, where j2 = +1 but j is not a real number, so j = 1. The implications 6 ± of the vanishing of the scalar product of two jay-vectors is also considered.
