April 1987 Summary A comprehensive faunistic analysis of the Noctuidae-fauna of Bisamberg (350 m), a hill with pannonic climate in East-Austria, is presented. 263 different species were found and represent, as to owl-moths, one of the richest areas of Austria. Four different sources were used for providing this paper: 1) Light-catch-samples of the author at exposed steppe-areas in the south-west of the hill. 2) Data of the Prodromus of the Lepidopteran Fauna of Lower Austria (STERZL 1967). 3) The collection of Naturhistorisches Museum Wien. 4) Data from the Austrian faunistic project ZOODAT. The Lepidoptera of Bucharest and Its Surroundings (Romania)

This study presents a synthesis of the current knowledge regarding the Lepidoptera fauna of Bucharest and the surrounding areas within a distance up to 50 kilometers around the Romanian capital. Data about the fauna composition are presented: the results of the research work beginning with the end of the 19th century, as well the results of the research work carried out in the last 15 years. The research initiated and done by the author himself, led to the identification of 180 species which were unknown in the past. Even if the natural habitats from this region have undergone through radical changes in the 20th century, the area still preserves a quite rich and interesting Lepidoptera fauna. The forests provide shelter to rich populations of the hawk moth Dolbina elegans A. Bang-Haas, 1912, one of the rarest Sphingidae in Europe, and some other species with high faunistical and zoogeographical value as: Noctua haywardi (Tams, 1926) (it is new record for the Romanian fauna from this area), Catocala dilecta (Hübner, 1808), Tarachidia candefacta (Hübner, [1831]), Chrysodeixis chalcites (Esper, [1789]), Aedia leucomelas (Linnaeus, 1758), and Hecatera cappa (Hübner, [1809]). We also present and discuss the current status of the protected Lepidoptera species from the surroundings of the Romanian capital for the first time. Résumé. Lödl* Abstract The type of Rhynchina obliqualis (KOLLAR, 1844) [Hypena] comb.n. has been rediscovered in the collections of the Museum of Natural History, Vienna. The species clearly belongs to the genus Rhynchina GUENÉE. Probably synonym is Rhynchina cramboides (BUTLER, 1879). Prior the species has been confused frequently with Hypena obacerralis WALKER, [1859]. Hypena masurialis GUENÉE, 1854, was an unjustified replacement name for Hypena obliqualis. The provisional synonymy of the difficult taxa "obacerralis" and "cramboides" is presented. Hypena longipalpalis GUENÉE, 1862, and Hypena sordida ROTHSCHILD, 1921, are new synonyms of H. obacerralis. The study yielded 273 species, i.e. 55 % of the Polish Noctuoidea. Its results clearly indicate that the study area is of crucial importance to the conservation of noctuid biodiversity, not only in Poland, but also in Europe. This area is inhabited by a number of stenotopic species, considered to be rare and threatened with extinction in Poland as well as in central Europe as a whole, e.g.: Idia calvaria, Meganola togatulalis, Diachrysia zosimi, Syngrapha microgamma, Abrostola asclepiadis, Acronicta menyanthidis, Heliothis ononis, Hoplodrina respersa, Lithophane lamda, Xylomoia graminea, Hydraecia ultima, Diarsia florida, Lycophotia molothina, Paradiarsia punicea, Xestia castanea, Coenophila subrosea and Euxoa vitta. Key words: Anoratha, Hypeninae, lectotype designation, Noctuidae, Oriental Region, redescriptions. Introduction The genus Anoratha was described by MOORE (1867) by monotypy. Type species is A. costalis MOORE, 1867. There are five closely related species known to exist in the Oriental Region. This paper is the first approach to a more detailed knowledge of the genus, its anatomic features and its species spectrum. All hitherto known species are redescribed and illustrated, the genitalia and further features of taxonomic importance are illustrated. All species show a significant though unique concept with a low tendency of variation. -

In this work some information (including photos) is provided on larvae and preimaginal ecology of two Canarian endemics Abrostola canariensis Hampson, 1913 and Rhynchina canariensis Pinker, 1962 from La Gomera. Larvae of R. canariensis were observed in Vallehermoso on Lotus emeroides R. P. Murray (Fabaceae). They inhabit stony, semidry slopes with Juniperus turbinata Guss. (Cupressaceae) where there are stands of L. emeroides on more or less open ground. The brownish, elongate larvae resemble those of Zekelita antiqualis (Hübner, 1809). Eggs and larvae of Abrostola canariensis were found on Parietaria judaica L. (Urticaceae) on not too dry or partially shaded rocky slopes and especially stone walls made of natural stone in cultivated or abandoned areas. Parietaria L. spp. should be the main host plants of this species and Urtica L. spp. are likely to be used only occasionally. Introduction The Canary Islands are famous for their high rate of endemic plants and insects. While the species composition is relatively well known, the preimaginal stages and bionomics of many species are still in need of detailed study. Rhynchina canariensis Pinker, 1962 (Erebidae: Hypeninae) and Abrostola cana riensis Hampson, 1913 (Noctuidae: Plusiinae) are both endemic to the Canary Islands. -

Among the total of 299 noctuid species recorded, 96 are new to the Chorna Hora. The survey has shown unequivocally that this region plays a major role in the preservation of noctuid biodiversity in both Ukraine and Europe as a whole. It supports a series of stenotopic species with Pontic, Mediterranean and Pannonian distributions, regarded as rare and threatened with extinction in Ukraine and central Europe. This study represents a synthesis of recent faunistical results (2012–2015), regarding the Macrolepidoptera of Dobrogea (south-eastern Romania) (Fig. 1A). Records of species of great faunistical and zoogeographical importance for the Romanian fauna are included. Eublemma porphyrina (Freyer, 1844) is reported for the first time in the Romanian fauna. The presence of several species known in the country based exclusively on very old records is confirmed (e.g.Dryobotodes carbonis (F. Wagner, 1831), Eremodrina pertinax (Staudinger, 1879), Zekelita antiqualis (Hübner, [1809])). Certain rare species with few records are also presented, such as Catopta thrips (Hübner, 1818), Sphingonaepiopsis gorgoniades (Hübner, 1819), Grammodes bifasciata (Petagna, 1787), Clytie syriaca (Bugnion, 1837), Symira dentinosa Freyer, 1839, Chazaria incarnata (Freyer, 1838), Protarchanara brevilinea (Fenn, 1864), Polymixis rufocincta (Geyer, [1828]), Gortyna cervago Eversmann, 1844, Dichagyris melanura (Kollar, 1846), Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) admetus (Esper, 1783), Libythea celtis (Laicharting in Fuessly, 1782), Kirinia roxelana (Cramer, 1777), etc. Several Macrolepidoptera species recorded for the first time in Dobrogea are also included, eg: Hyloicus pinastri (Linnaeus, 1758), Cyclophora quercimontaria (Bastelberger, 1897), Perconia strigillaria (Hübner, 1787), Dryobotodes carbonis (F. Wagner, 1831), Meganephria bimaculosa (Linnaeus, 1767), Cerastis leucographa ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775), Noctua janthe (Borkhausen, 1792).
