  • Wear Characteristics of Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Titanium Alloys
〔 Chiba Medical J. 92E:43 ~ 48, 2016〕 〔 Original Paper 〕 Wear characteristics of carbon nanotube reinforced titanium alloys Masahiko Suzuki1,2), Yuta Ousaka3), Junichi Nakamura2) Tomohiro Sugimoto3) and Seiji Ohtori2) 1) Center for Frontier Medical Engineering, Chiba University, Chiba 263-8522. 2) Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Graduate School of Medicine, Chiba University, Chiba 260-8670. 3) Teijin-nakashima medical Co. ltd, Okayama 709-0625. (Received June 16, 2016, Accepted July 19, 2016) SUMMARY Recently, carbon nanotube( CNT) reinforced titanium alloys and carbon-doped titanium oxide (Fresh Green) process of titanium alloys have been developed to achieve better mechanical property. The tribological behavior of them was examined in the study. A pin on disc tribometer was used to evaluate wear volume under metal on metal condition using Ti4.5Al3V2Mo2Fe( SP700), CNT SP700 and CoCrMo. Pin on disc tests were carried out to assess the tribological response of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene to SP700, CNT SP700, Ti6Al4V, CNT Ti6AL4V, carbon-doped titanium oxide Ti6Al4V, and CoCrMo. In the metal on metal study, the addition of CNT to SP700 reduced wear volume less than the SP700 and the wear volume of the CNT SP700 was larger than that of the CoCrMo. In the metal on ultra-high molecular polyethylene study, the wear volume of the Ti6Al4V was totally equal to that of the CoCrMo. The wear volumes of CNT SP700 and CNT Ti6Al4V decreased to three fourths of that of the Ti6Al4V and the CoCrMo. The wear volume of the fresh green-Ti6Al4V decreased to one half of that of the Ti6Al4V and the CoCrMo.

  • ASME 2016 HT/FE/ICNMM Heat Transfer, Fluids Engineering, & Nanochannels, Microchannels, and Minichannels Conferences
ASME 2016 HT/FE/ICNMM Heat Transfer, Fluids Engineering, & Nanochannels, Microchannels, and Minichannels Conferences CONFERENCE July 10–14, 2016 Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, Washington, DC Program The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Welcome from the Chairs On behalf of the three organizing committees of the ASME 2016 Heat Transfer, Fluids Engineerng, and Nano-, Micro- and Mini-channels Conference (HT/FE/ICNMM2016), we welcome you to Washington, D.C., USA. We are excited to have your participation in the HT/ FE/ICNMM Conference; which is a co-location of the traditional Fluids Engineering Division Summer Meeting (FEDSM), Summer Heat Transfer Conference (SHTC), and the 14th International Conference of Nanochannels, Microchannels, and Minichannels Conference (ICNMM). These co-located conferences are hosted by two ASME divisions, Heat Transfer Division and Fluids Engineering Division. Along with FEDSM2016, special events to celebrate FED 90th Anniversary are also planned. The co-location of these conferences has attracted considerable interest and participation. The technical program consists of 423 papers and 828 presentations; with participation of more than 2,000 authors from close to 50 countries. Additionally, there are nine plenary lectures; five distinguished speakers from each of the Fluids Engineering Division, Heat Transfer Division, and ICNMM. The FEDSM plenary Speakers include: Dr. Patrick J. Roache, Fluids Engineering Award recipient, Consultant; Prof. Mohamed Gad-El-Hak, Virginia Commonwealth University, Dr. Joseph T. Arcano, Jr., Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, and Prof. Goodarz With our very best wishes to the Ahmadi, Freeman Scholar Award recipient, Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY; In addition, Dr. conference attendees, William Morgan, former Head of the Hydromechanics Directorate at the US Navy David Taylor Model Basin, will give the FED 90th anniversary history lecture.
