Koons will attend the opening ceremony. Born in 1955, he belongs to the generation of artists who continued the American pop-art tradition while embracing an aesthetics that took to extremes the culture of pop and consumerism. In the early ‘90s, Koons documented his conjugal life with Ilona Staller (Cicciolina), depicting domestic pornographic scenes in a series of photographs, statues and prints, in which compositions were based on religious and classical painting. Business Artists Als Marke
Bouquet of Tulips a Symbol of Remembrance and Support
BOUQUET OF TULIPS A SYMBOL OF REMEMBRANCE AND SUPPORT OCTOBER 4TH, 2019 2 3 TABLE OF CONTENTS Foreword by Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris Foreword by Christophe Girard, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of culture Foreword by Jane Hartley, United States Ambassador to France from 2014 to 2017 Foreword by Jeff Koons, artist Biography of Jeff Koons Bouquet of Tulips - A symbol of remembrance and support Bouquet of Tulips - Technical description Project coordinated by: - Fonds pour Paris - Paris Foundation - Noirmontartproduction Main donors Donors 2 3 FOREWORD ANNE HIDALGO Mayor of Paris JEAN-BAPTISTE GURLIAT / MAIRIE DE PARIS GURLIAT JEAN-BAPTISTE © I am very honored and touched by Jeff Koons’s gesture, who wished to personally and creatively express his solidarity with our city and his love for Paris. This monumental work, in homage to the victims of the attacks that deeply affected our city, is a testimony to the friendship between the American and French people, as well as New York and Paris. Like a bridge between two cities affected by terrorism, but which have found the strength to rise again in the dignity of their population. For this work is given, first and foremost, to Parisians who will be able to admire it firsthand. This “Bouquet of Tulips,” symbolic of Jeff Koons’s work, is supposed to surprise us through its color and freedom, and, over time, will be inscribed in Paris’s heritage. Modern art should constantly make us question our ideas, and I am sure that this work will not fail to question the convictions of those who will come to discover it, and that it will participate in the reputation, drawing power and beauty of Paris. -
