Volume 24, Issue 7 Page 3 The Day I gave my Hart Away by Laura Encarnado When Joe Fisher, President of the PFFC, looked me straight in the face and announced my name as the PFFC member who would assist Theresa Carney-Kestenholz, Vice-President of the PFFC, to present the Gene Hart Memorial trophy, I screamed out loud in total shock. The recipient of this year’s Gene Hart Memorial trophy happened to be my favorite Flyer - JAKE VORACEK. Being there to present Jake with an award he deserved sent me to Cloud 9. I literally could not function for days because of all the excitement that would only last not even 30 seconds. All I could think of was how I would make world news for falling on my face. As we gathered in the zamboni tunnel, Theresa, the birthday girl!, looked calm, cool and collected! I think my heart jumped out of my chest. Lauren Hart walked by and seemed unsure of what to do so I grabbed her and told her she was with us. It felt like forever standing there, but I think that is where the most fun was had. We talked about my jacket I bought just for the occasion and “fangirled” over Jake. In my moments of total fear and panic, I grabbed Lauren's hand. I told her I could not figure out if I was more nervous about walking out there or that Jake would be coming over to us to shake our hands. Lauren said it was perfectly fine as she gets nervous every single time she goes out to sing. The time comes and we are directed out to the ice. It’s pitch dark, I'm holding on to Lauren for dear life and then it happens. Jake appears out of nowhere, into the light like the angel that he is and made his way over to us. Like completely normal people, Theresa and Lauren shake his hand and congratulate him. And then there's me… It's as if I couldn't control myself. He shakes my hand and I say it: "I love you!" Jake cracks up. Not only did I say it, but you can read my lips as clear as day on camera. We pose and then make our way back to the zamboni tunnel. Lauren was laughing and said this was the most fun she has had doing this. We were then allowed to watch Lauren perform both the Canadian and United States anthems. We then made our way to our seats to enjoy the last game of the season. This was one of the greatest moments in my life and I take great joy in knowing that my declaration of love is cemented PFFC Vice President Theresa Carney-Kestenholz, Laura Encarnado along forever on NHL.com. with Lauren Hart present the Gene Hart Memorial Award to Jake Voracek Page 4 The Puck - May/June 2015 Happy Birthday to PFFC members celebrating their special day!!
