When I was introduced to Marisa C. Weiss, M.D. 10 years ago, it was clear she had a vision that needed to be realized: Breastcancer.org. Like many great ideas, hers was born through a moment of inspiration … at her kitchen table. And it was fueled by her passionate commitment to helping women and their loved ones face the challenges of breast cancer. Now, I look back in awe to see that she and Breastcancer.org have helped 28 million people overcome these challenges. Increasingly, as women have less time with their doctors and more treatment options and decisions to make, our medical content and online community are critical components of their difficult journey. Tonight, I am filled with gratitude. Thanks to YOU for supporting Breastcancer.org as we celebrate our 10-year anniversary. Thanks to our fabulous event co-chairs, Amanda Westphal Radcliffe and Sheri Lambert. Their enthusiasm and leadership fueled us all over the past year, and tonight’s success is a wonderful tribute to their amazing dedication! Thanks also to our Presenting Sponsor, Genentech BioOncology, and to all of our sponsors, whose generosity demonstrates their commitment to helping all those affected by breast cancer. In the years ahead, Breastcancer.org will focus on deepening our impact by expanding our programs and our reach. The people we serve rely on our research reporting. They need easier access through video, blogs, and mobile applications. They need Spanish translation of our website. They need action- oriented information to help reduce their risk of recurrence or of ever hearing the words, “you have breast cancer.” Breastcancer.org promises to meet their needs! Thank you for joining us tonight as we honor the lives we’ve touched and celebrate 10 years of help, comfort, and hope. Your generosity helps ensure that in the decade ahead we can continue to help the millions we already serve and reach even more people in need by improving the information and support we provide. Finally, please join me in thanking Dr. Marisa Weiss for her extraordinary vision and dedication, which turned her dream into the reality that helps millions of people every year! With gratitude,
