Pre-S.1 Bridging Programmes 2 Programme Schedule Day 1 School Orientation Treasure Hunt I: What, where, which about the new school Introduction to school facilities through a fun, exciting campus-wide treasure hunt game. Mind-juggling clues will be givenat every check-point! Talk, Play and Work: English as the medium of instruction and communication Enhance fluency in classroom English through interactive activities and exercises. Day 2 English Galore Speak your mind Build confidence in daily English conversation and classroom presentation. Reading Master Become an avid and fluent reader through acquisition of fundamental reading skills. Writing Pro Master the important techniques to become an eective writer for varied writing purposes. Listen up Acquire valuable listening skills through group games and listening exercises. Day 3 Learning English through the Socio-Cultural Perspective Electives (choose 3) The Art of Poems and Songs Explore key poetic forms (haiku, acrostics, shape poems) and engage in lyrics-rewriting. Gems of Popular Culture Immerse in the world of advertising, movies and the latest in pop cultural development. Heads-up with Social Issues Investigate topical social issues both local and global, such as poverty and gender inequality. All about Short Stories Be familiarised with the basics of this classical literary form, from genre to setting, from plot to twist, from characterization to narration. Power Up through Sports Communication Learn about the varieties of sports and the unique genre of sports reporting. Day 4 Let’s Get Practical! Phonics-holics Boost spelling and pronunciation skills while widening vocabularies. Note-taking Wizard Taking advantage of powerful online tools, get in-depth practice in information research and digital note-taking. Kahoot Fun Using the latest programme in educational technology, have fun in consolidating learning through online quizzes and competitions. Day 5 Treasure Hunt II: English Buet This final treasure hunt game will test students’ newly-acquired English skills using clues and riddles related to the contents of the last 4 days’ lessons. Student Presentation Students will end their bridging programme by reflecting upon their journey of learning. In groups, they will produce a short presentation or drama performance which will showcase not only their new skills, but also their feelings towards their new school and classmates. 4 Pre-S.1 Bridging Programmes Outing Choices One outing to replace one day of classroom lesson Hong Kong Island Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre HK Visual Arts Centre is housed in a Grade I historic building called Cassels Block, in Hong Kong Park. The building was built in the 1900s and used as the married quarters for British army off icers. HK Visual Arts Centre off ers specialised equipment and exhibition space for local artists and enthusiasts to create, learn and research art. Students will experience a journey of inspiration and awaken the true artist within. Tai Kwun - Centre for Heritage and Arts This revitalisation project to restore the Central Police Station compound has resulted in three declared monuments—the former Central Police Station, Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison being turned into Tai Kwun. This unique historical compound is now a centre of arts such as theatre, music, dance and fi lm. There are also engagement programmes and workshops where students can immerse themselves in an odyssey of learning and culture. Kowloon The Hong Kong Museum of History Established in 1975, The Hong Kong Museum of History was split from the City Museum and Art Gallery as a standalone museum which preserves Hong Kong’s historical and cultural heritage. The museum is permanently housed next to the Hong Kong Science Museum - with the aim of engaging the public with the stories of Hong Kong and the world as a whole. This is a place where students will be inspired to go further and deeper into our culture and history. M+ Pavilion M+ Pavilion is the temporary exhibition space for M+ exhibitions before the completion of M+ building, the new museum of visual culture scheduled to be completed in 2019. The focus of exhibitions in M+ Pavilion is on 20th and 21st Century art, design, architecture and moving image. As the unique space for artists and designers to stage small-scale exhibitions events upon the completion of M+ building, the M+ Pavilion will provide an invigorating and stimulating art experience for students, especially for those that are interested in modern art. The New Territories Hong Kong Railway Museum Hong Kong Railway Museum is converted from the old Tai Po Market Railway Station and is now an open-air museum of local railway transportation. The exhibition gallery features the story of railways development in Hong Kong with updated content of the latest information in the fi eld. The museum is also an exhibition itself with the historic station building, coaches and train engines. The interactive experience will broaden students’ 6 knowledge of the railways while gaining knowledge of railways network development in Hong Kong. Tao Heung Museum of Food Culture Tao Heung Museum of Food Culture is located in a revitalized industrial building in Fo Tan. It is one of the few museums run by non-government organisation which aims to introduce the history and modern food cultures of Hong Kong. The museum has a wide range of exhibition including herbs, food samples, cutlery, kitchen tools and equipment used by the local food industry in the past and in the present. These collective memories, passed on from the older generation to the new, will be a precious chance for students to learn more about the history of Hong Kong through the prism of food. Students will gain full knowledge of the essential terminology and concepts across a number of junior secondary school subjects. It looks at each paper in great details and offers the skills and the knowledge that DSE is set to challenge. Our school can choose its focus in order to cater for its students’ needs. Each paper will be covered by 3 days of 3-hour lessons. Listening will be shorter, it occupies 2 days of 3-hour lessons. “The Power Pack” - Intensive DSE Programme 12 Programme Schedule Paper 1 Reading With the aim of teaching students how to read fast and read smart, this module sets to transform the way students tackle the commonly seen comprehension questions.
