Smokey Bones BBQ & Sports Bar Opens in Springfield Smokey Bones BBQ & Sports Bar Opens in Springfield Smokey Bones BBQ & Sports Bar Opens in Springfield New Restaurant and Sports Bar Offers Authentic Hickory Smoked BBQ SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 4 - Smokey Bones BBQ & Sports Bar, a unique new dining concept that combines great-tasting barbecue with a casual, energetic sports atmosphere, opened its doors recently at 1492 Boston Road in Springfield, Mass. Smokey Bones looks like a rustic mountain lodge -- a casual setting that invites you to get comfortable while enjoying St. Louis- style ribs, sliced pork, or baby back ribs slow-smoked over genuine hickory logs, all delivered by an upbeat, friendly serving staff. And no barbecue restaurant would be complete without a signature barbecue sauce to slather over pulled pork or a smoked beef brisket sandwich. The menu also features steaks and grilled salmon. Another feature you'll notice at Smokey Bones is its large, lively bar and game area. Springfield-native and General Manager Maria Lough said her new BBQ Sports Bar is a "great place for sports fans to watch the game. We have a bar and game area in the back of the dining room and we've strategically placed 52 TVs and three big screens throughout the restaurant, so there's not a bad seat in the house!" In addition, each table has an individual sound control box that lets you select the games you want to hear. Lough boasted that her restaurant has something for everyone, even the kids. "It's a real family friendly place," she said. "We have a great children's menu and entertaining games to keep the kids happy." The Smokey Bones "BBQ team" regularly competes and has won awards in several barbecue competitions across the southern U.S. and earned the right to compete against 250 national level teams in the granddaddy of all barbecue competitions, the "Memphis in May World Championships." "We make sure our barbecue is done well every day by 'judging' it like we were in the finals on the competition circuit," said Lough, who believes there are no shortcuts to serving great barbecue. "True BBQ is an art and we're passionate about the details that go into every rack of ribs and slice of meat. It's a passion we look forward to sharing with Springfield." Smokey Bones currently has seven restaurants operating in Orlando, Columbus, Ohio, Colonie, N.Y., Dartmouth, Mass., and Aurora, Ill. For more information, visit the restaurant's Web site at www.smokeybones.com. Darden Restaurants, Inc. is the world's largest casual dining company with more than 1,130 Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, and Smokey Bones restaurants, more than 120,000 employees and annual sales of $3.7 billion. The Globalization of Chinese Food ANTHROPOLOGY OF ASIA SERIES Series Editor: Grant Evans, University ofHong Kong Asia today is one ofthe most dynamic regions ofthe world. The previously predominant image of 'timeless peasants' has given way to the image of fast-paced business people, mass consumerism and high-rise urban conglomerations. Yet much discourse remains entrenched in the polarities of 'East vs. West', 'Tradition vs. Change'. This series hopes to provide a forum for anthropological studies which break with such polarities. It will publish titles dealing with cosmopolitanism, cultural identity, representa tions, arts and performance. The complexities of urban Asia, its elites, its political rituals, and its families will also be explored. Sweet Baby Ray’s restaurant, general release, page 1 Media Contact: Kurman Communications, Inc. (312) 651-9000 Stephanie DeMeester / Catherine Patterson [email protected] / [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbecue Restaurant offers a distinctive vision of authentic high-quality Chicago-style barbecue An unbridled barbecue passion and a unique team of culinary professionals create the definitive Chicago rendition Elk Grove Village, Ill. (May 2008)—For barbecue lovers, barbecue isn’t simply a cuisine, it’s a passion. No one is more passionate about great barbecue than Dave (aka Sweet Baby Ray) Raymond and his partner, Mike O’Brien, owners of Sweet Baby Ray’s Restaurant in Elk Grove Village (800 E. Higgins Rd., Elk Grove Village, Ill.; 847-437-9555). “Barbecue is about having fun,” says Dave. “If you’re not having fun, you’re not having great barbecue.” Dave, Mike and their unique, professionally trained culinary team have great fun every day. That fun translates into serving hundreds of customers daily both at the restaurant and through private catering events. What most people don’t realize is that, behind the smiles and laughter, their barbecue expertise comes from their deep understanding of what goes into barbecue quality. They have developed distinctive, out-of-the-ordinary recipes, source the best ingredients, procure the best cooking equipment and then prepare the food in the painstaking, time consuming manner that is required to produce the Sweet Baby Ray’s signature barbecue. While the name is familiar in most Chicago households, the restaurant, Sweet Baby Ray’s has only been open since December 2007.

Smokey Bones BBQ Sports Bar Was Smokin' at First-Ever Barbecue Competition Smokey Bones BBQ Sports Bar Was Smokin' at First-Ever Barbecue Competition ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 11 -- It may have been their first major barbecue competition, but Smokey Bones BBQ Sports Bar- Orlando, Fla.-based Darden Restaurant's latest test restaurant -- put together a team of experts who showed 14 other top- notch barbecuers they have what it takes to compete against some of the nation's best. Smokey Bones' Executive Chef John Radcliff, Sous Chef Eric Ebersbach, and fellow team members Jennifer Manette, Preston Moore, and Brian Walker traveled from Orlando to Tallahassee, Fla., to compete in the "Big Bend Pig Fest and Feast" on Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2. The team placed first in "hot chicken wings," second in "pork ribs" and fifth in "pork shoulder." In the barbecue world, serious competitors get together to compare notes, test recipes, and tempt the judges' palates several times a year in competitions like "Big Bend" that are "sanctioned" by the granddaddy of all barbecue competitions -- the "Memphis in May" World Championships. During these events, taste talks and winners go on to compete in the biggest event of the year in Memphis, Tenn. Because of their strong showing in Tallahassee, Smokey Bones secured a spot in the world championships where they'll go up against 300 national-level teams, most of whom compete all year. Radcliff said his team is up for the Memphis challenge and ready to show what they can do. "With all of the top teams that showed up this year, we were happy to hold our own," he said.
