ANATOMY of a SUICIDE by Alice Birch | Directed by Catarina Hebbard Presented by Metro Arts and BC Productions Qld in association with e.g and Big Scary Animal ANATOMY OF A SUICIDE By Alice Birch | Directed by Catarina Hebbard 18 - 29 May 2021 New Benner Theatre, Metro Arts DIRECTOR’S NOTES I first read this script in 2018 as I was travelling across to Adelaide Fringe Festival, and I could not put it down. I was completely drawn in by Alice’s storytelling, building from one story to three stories told simultaneously, written like a score, across a page. I read a story at a time at first and went back to read across the page, such was the complexity of the dialogue. As I said, I could not put it down. Birch has created a beautiful tapestry of intergenerational trauma, that showcases the power of women in all their forms and highlights the monumental effect that our mental health has on our day to day lives. I started thinking about how it could be done, how had it been presented in the past? And here began my relationship with this incredible work. From a directorial point of view the challenge of telling the story of three generations simultaneously means that you are, in fact, directing three shows in one. NO. MEAN. FEAT. Alice’s writing has in-built mechanisms that guide the process – helping us navigate with natural ebbs and flows written into each scene. I spoke to Rebecca Alexander (my co-artistic director) and once she had read the script, we both agreed we needed to bring this to Brisbane audiences. In 2019 I gathered a group of actors together to read the work, and it was at this point I knew we absolutely had to do it. It all seemed possible and very exciting. Fast forward to 2021, Metro Arts and the New Benner Theatre. We all know what last year was like, so, to begin this year by coming together with a cast of 10 performers and a backstage team of 10 hardworking creatives has been an absolute pleasure. Bringing this beauty of a beast of a show together certainly hasn’t been easy and at times felt like an insurmountable challenge. But somehow despite rainstorms, C**** Lockdowns and negotiating 20 people’s lives and timetables, We. Are. Here. None of this would have been possible without the tireless work of my co-artistic director Rebecca Alexander and our co-producers Zoe Houghton (Big Scary Animal) and Elise Greig e.g., three amazing kick-ass women, all of whom have put their blood, sweat and tears (both literal and metaphorical) into this production. Thank you for supporting this work and indie artists in Brisbane, we hope to see you again. With love, Catarina THANK YOUS Shane Anthony, Helen O’Leary, Kerith Atkinson, Paige Poulier, Morgan Francis, Richard Lund, Shideh Faramand, Lisa O’Neill, Anatoly Frusin, Matt Seery, QT, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, Kristina Olson, Jess Hansen, Krissy Kneen, Ben Hughes, John Felmingham, the team at Metro Arts & all our families & friends for their support. The team would like to say a heart-felt thanks to Jessica Veurman for being in the room over the last few weeks, your support has been so gratefully appreciated. The flm stars Nicholas Kato as Jamie, a 26-year-old musician who is out of work and down on his luck. When Jamie’s band breaks up, he’s left with no money, no career and no girlfriend. Now he teaches piano at a soul-destroying music school. Will he take a risk and follow his dreams? Or will he surrender to his new-found unhappiness and play it safe? about the film Following in the footsteps of flmmakers like Andrew Bujalski, Lena Dunham, Noah Baumbach, and the Duplass Brothers, PLAY IT SAFE explores a generation caught between endless opportunity and the pressures of conformity. The flm features unobtrusive black and white camerawork, naturalistic dialog, and unafected performances. The result is an engaging, refreshing look at twenty-something life flled with authentic emotion, humour, and pathos. Ṣ Publicity Contact: Sales Contact: The DDA Group Rocket Science [email protected] [email protected] 1 Synopsis On a warm spring day in 1924, house maid and foundling Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young) finds herself alone on Mother’s Day. Her employers, Mr and Mrs Niven (Colin Firth and Olivia Colman), are out and she has the rare chance to spend quality time with her secret lover, Paul (Josh O’Connor), the boy from the manor house nearby who is Jane’s long-term love despite the fact that he’s engaged to be married to another woman, a childhood friend and daughter of his parents’ friends. But events that neither can foresee will change the course of Jane’s life forever. A Statement from Director Eva Husson The Mothering Sunday script fell on my lap like a little spark of pure energy visiting me from a galaxy, far, far away. I was working on a TV show, when I got an email from my agent – she knew I was drowning in work, but she said to me; “Read this. You have to. You’ll understand why.” I read the script in one day, in fragments of 5 or 10 minutes, I always made sure I went back to it because I realised I had to. I finished the script in tears. Mothering Sunday seemed to have, somehow, found its way to me, and there it was, this wonderful screenplay, speaking to me, playing a frequency that opened me up like only the most honest works of art do.

  • Adidas Outdoor Footwear Introduction
3rd October, 2013 BIG SCARY & JONTI UNITE TO CREATE EXCLUSIVE TRACK Six artists join forces across Australia & NZ to create three unique tracks as part of adidas Originals campaign Following in the footsteps of this year’s legendary collaboration between hip hop artist Run DMC and superstar DJ A-Trak, adidas Originals has brought together six unique Australian and New Zealand artists to produce three exclusive tracks. The first collaboration will be released on Thursday, 3 October by Australian artists, Big Scary and Jonti. The track, entitled ‘Slumming it in Paradise’ combines the beat genius of producer Jonti, with the eclectic musical influence of duo Tom and Jo from Big Scary. Their unique sounds and ideas collided in Melbourne to create a track with the freedom to be uninhibited. DOWNLOAD ‘SLUMMING IT IN PARADISE’ HERE VIEW JONTI x BIG SCARY TEASER HERE The process between the two artists has culminated in a track peppered with references from the Gorillaz and the soundtrack to the computer game Sim City mixed in with a 50s American resort poolside vibe. Pairing Jonti's loop and Big Scary’s piano riff which Tom recorded on his phone, the trio originally thought the track was going to be more hip hop skewed. As it started to take shape, the lyrics took on a life of their own with Tom and Jo basing it on a night out on the town in which they encountered a not so tasteful character who seemed to be ‘slumming it in paradise’. Known for being a multi-instrumentalist, arranger and producer, Jonti has worked with Mark Ronson, Santigold and more.

  • Black Widow Production Notes
“Before I worked for S.H.I.E.L.D., I made mistakes, but I’m done running from my past. We have to go back to where it all started. We have unfinished business. One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be a hell of a reunion.” ~ Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. “I think from the very beginning when we first started talking about doing this standalone film, there was no reason to do it unless we could really dig deep and be brave and go there,” says Scarlett Johansson, who reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow. “Having played this character for a decade, I wanted to make sure that it would feel artistically and creatively rewarding for me as well as the fans.” Producer Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ president and chief creative officer, says that Natasha Romanoff has sparked intrigue since her big-screen debut in 2010’s “Iron Man 2.” “She has such a rich backstory,” says Feige. “We’ve hinted at it throughout all the other films. But we approach it in a completely unexpected way. She’s been up to a lot all along—in between when we see her in the other movies—some of which will be surprising to people.” According to Feige, it was Johansson who reached out to director Cate Shortland to see if she’d consider helming the film.
