IT hub of India • Karnataka is the IT hub of India & home to the fourth largest technology cluster in the world. It has 23 operational IT/ ITeS SEZs, five software technology parks & dedicated IT investment regions. 2 • Export of electronics and computer software from the state reached US$ 42.16 billion in FY20 (till November 2019). Export of IT and electronic products accounted for around 38.99% share in India's electronics and computer software export and 76.36% share in Karnataka’s overall export. Vibrant industrial base • Karnataka has vibrant automobile, agro, aerospace, textile & garment, biotech & heavy engineering industries. The 3 state has sector-specific SEZs for key industries such as IT, nanotechnology, biotechnology, engineering, food processing and aerospace. One of the preferred investment destinations • The cumulative FDI inflow in the state reached US$ 46.61 billion between April 2000 and March 2020, the third highest in India after Maharashtra and New Delhi. In the overall exports from the 5 state, sectors such as iron & steel, petroleum products, electronic instruments and cotton accessories were the key contributors. Strong knowledge infrastructure • Karnataka has 52 universities, 4,519 pre-university colleges, 535 Technical Institutions, 206 engineering colleges & 314 polytechnics, 47 medical colleges & 38 dental colleges. 6 • The state also houses 401 R&D centres; around 400 of the Fortune Global 500 companies outsource their IT services to firms in Bengaluru. Significant agriculture base • Sugarcane is the key crop of the state, with production of ~39.6 million tonnes in 2019-20**. The state’s total food 7 grain production was estimated to be 11.9 million tonnes in 2019-20**. Karnataka is also the third largest producer of plantation crops in the country. Strong growth in tourism sector • Karnataka boasts of a diverse flora & fauna & a 320km natural coastline, which makes it a nature tourist's paradise. Tourist arrivals in the state increased from 214.85 million in 2018 to 228.54 million in 2019, at a growth 8 rate of 6.37% between 2018 and 2019. The state has world heritage sites at Hampi and Pattadakal. The sector contributes 14.8% to GSDP of Karnataka; plans are afoot to expand to 26% by 2020.     DISTRICT DISASTER MANAGEMENT PLAN- UDUPI UDUPI DISTRICT 2015-16 -1- -2- Executive Summary The District Disaster Management Plan is a key part of an emergency management. It will play a significant role to address the unexpected disasters that occur in the district effectively. The information available in DDMP is valuable in terms of its use during disaster. Based on the history of various disasters that occur in the district, the plan has been so designed as an action plan rather than a resource book. Utmost attention has been paid to make it handy, precise rather than bulky one. This plan has been prepared which is based on the guidelines from the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM). While preparing this plan, most of the issues, relevant to crisis management, have been carefully dealt with. During the time of disaster there will be a delay before outside help arrives. At first, self-help is essential and depends on a prepared community which is alert and informed. Efforts have been made to collect and develop this plan to make it more applicable and effective to handle any type of disaster. The DDMP developed touch upon some significant issues like Incident Command System (ICS), In fact, the response mechanism, an important part of the plan is designed with the ICS. It is obvious that the ICS, a good model of crisis management has been included in the response part for the first time. G. Nagaraja Copyright RAGHAVENDRA G. AMACHAWADI 2010 Abstract Copper, as copper sulfate, is often supplemented at elevated concentrations in swine diets, particularly in piglets, to promote growth. Growth promotional effects of copper are believed to be similar to that of antibiotics in that gut microbial flora is altered to reduce loss of nutrients and suppress pathogens. Bacteria exposed to copper may acquire resistance, and in Enterococcus faecium and E. faecalis, resistance is conferred by a plasmid-borne transferable copper resistance (tcrB) gene. The plasmid also carries macrolide [erm(B)] and glycopeptide (vanA) antibiotics resistance genes. The objectives of the research were to 1) determine the prevalence of tcrB gene in fecal enterococci of piglets in relation to normal (16.5 ppm) and elevated level (125 ppm) of copper supplementation, 2) determine the relationship of tcrB gene and susceptibilities to copper, erythromycin, and vancomycin, and 3) determine the transferability of tcrB gene in enterococci by conjugation. Weaned piglets, housed in pens, fed normal (16.5 ppm; control) or elevated level of copper (125 ppm) were used. Fecal samples were collected weekly for isolation of enterococci. Isolates were speciated by multiplex PCR and sodA gene sequence analysis.
