Scottish Student Chair Role Description

Role Title: Scottish Student Rowing Chair Responsible to: Head of Competitions Where (Location): Various within Time commitment: Variable, 10-15 hours per month, with 2-3 full day tournaments Role duration: Minimum two years – until June 2022 Role description: Scottish Student Sport (SSS), the governing body for student , is seeking an energetic and committed individual to act as the lead volunteer within Scottish Student Rowing.

The Chair will enjoy an excellent opportunity to contribute towards growing the sport and building a relationship with .

The selected individual will be a key figure in the drive towards improving and strengthening student rowing in Scotland.

The Chair will work with SSS staff to coordinate event delivery, manage a budget, participate in strategic planning, communicate with student participants, support event volunteers and improve both SGB engagement & club development. Main tasks: Oversee the programme  Coordinate a meeting for all student rowing club captains at the start of the year to share plans for the year  Promote student rowing competitions and opportunities to clubs, plus results and wider activity  Coordinate a meeting for all student rowing captains at the end of the year to review and to plan for the following year Develop the sport  Act upon goals set out in Partnership Agreement with Scottish Rowing  Develop SS Rowing calendar, in conjunction with Competitions Coordinator and Scottish Rowing Support event delivery  Oversee SS Rowing programme budget, managed by Head of Competitions  Liaise with organisers of SS Rowing events (Scottish Rowing and Heads Race host) via 2 to 3 meetings a year for Outdoors plus organisation of draw  Attend the SS Rowing events: Indoor Championships (1 day), Head Race and Outdoor Championships (both weekend events)  Assist with SSS medal and branding logistics for each SS Rowing event

 Ensure SSS has results and participant data from each Championship Required skills,  Proactive, can do attitude qualities and  Experience in event management experience  Experience of student rowing in Scotland  Knowledge of rowing landscape in Scotland  Ability to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders Training and support  Annual Chairs’ Training day hosted by SSS available:  Any relevant CPD courses/experience as identified by Chair and

Head of Competitions  Named staff member within SSS

Any other  Driving licence desired but not essential Requirements  Coaching or Officiating qualification preferred but not essential
