Esper, Secretary of the Army took time out of his overall Korean Peninsula battlefield circulation, to visit the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command’s footprint, Jan. 10. During Esper’s visit, leadership with the 19th ESC, to include Brig. Gen. Michel M. Russell Sr., the ESC’s commanding general, gave Esper a tour of key military areas as well as a mission briefing on the mission of the ESC in the Korean Peninsula. Casey Jan. 11, his great-niece, 2nd Lt. Sarah K. Casey a Soldier currently assigned to Camp Casey, places a wreath and small flags in his honor on a hill where his plane crashed in 1952 during the Korean War. Casey, a platoon leader assigned to Battery B, 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 210th Field Artillery Brigade, part of the 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-US Combined Division. Maj. Casey was in a light observation plane when it crashed on a hill just outside Camp Casey. He was a veteran of action in the Pacific during World War II, and during the Korean War was decorated for gallantry. During the placing of the wreath and flags, 2nd Lt. Casey was accompanied by Lt. Francesco Friedrich (GER), World Champion and overall World Cup winner in the 2-man bobsleigh will be at the opener in Lake Placid (USA), along with his team mate Johannes Lochner, who shared first place with Friedrich in the 4-man bobsleigh at BMW IBSF World Championships in 2017. The World Champions and defending World Cup winners in skeleton, Jacqueline Lölling of Germany and Martins Dukurs of Latvia, will also be in Lake Placid, along with the overall winner in the 4-man bobsleigh Alexander Kasjanov. At their home event, the US team will be led by two bobsleigh pilots: World Champion Elana Meyers Taylor and overall World Cup winner Jamie Greubel Poser.
