FPI-DOTC Cargo Transport Conference for Road Safety successfully held:

The Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) and Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) in strong collaboration with the Confederation of Truckers Association of the Philippines (CTAP) have successfully staged the “Cargo Transport Conference for Road Safety” held last Wednesday, May 14, 2014, 8:00 to 5:00 at the Commissioned Officers’ Club, Camp Aguinaldo, City.

The Conference was primarily devoted at increasing safety awareness among truck owners and hauling companies. More specifically, it aims to work with cargo owners to make road safety an important element in searching for truckers who will transport their commodities and to encourage these owners to include road safety as a specific provision in their cargo contracts. For the haulers, the conference had featured lead models and best practices that can be adapted to improve safety on the road.

FPI Chairman, Jesus Lim Arranza delivered the opening remarks. Mr. Edgar Chua Country Chairman & President of Pilipinas Shell Corporation, Mr. Carlos Tanciatco III from San Miguel Corporation, Mr. Cecilio Pedro from Hapee Toothpaste and Mr. Alberto Suansing CTAP Director all served as keynote speakers and shared their outstanding policies in compliance with road safety.

The culmination of the conference was the signing by FPI President George S. Chua, Confederation of Truckers’ Association of the Philippines (CTAP) President Mr. Rupert Bayocot and Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Assistant Secretary, Dante Lantin of the “Tripartite Commitment to Road Safety” which contains a general commitment by the cargo owners, truckers and Government to observe road safety policies and programs diligently.

The Senate Committee on Labour, Employment and Human Resource Development is inviting the Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) to attend the public hearing on May 20, 2014, Tuesday,1:00 p.m. at the Committee Room 1, 2nd Floor, Senate of the Philippines in order to discuss the following: Senate Bill No. 136 entitled as the “Apprenticeship Training Act of 2013”; Senate Bill No. 2193 concerning Productivity Incentives; Senate Bill Nos. 515 and 1506 which pertains to Indigenous Cultural Communities and finally, Senate Bill Nos. 507, 1278, 1421 and 1955 concerning “Overseas Workers Credit Assistance Act”.

NCC – 2nd Annual Ease of Doing Business Summit 2014

The National Competitiveness Council has invited the Federation of Philippine Industries to the 2nd Annual Ease of Doing Business Summit 2014 on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the 2nd Floor, Grand Ballroom, Intercontinental Hotel, Ayala Avenue, Makati City.

The Summit will once again gather the public and private sector members of the Ease Doing Business Task Force to publicly pledge to fulfill their reform targets in the presence of representatives from the business community, media, and other stakeholders.

The event will highlight the next steps taken by the Philippines to further improve its business environment, following our 30-notch jump on the Doing Business Report last year.
