Forgetful Heart Press Release tel: 07848 741672 email: [email protected] Barb Jungr Forgetful Heart Dylan and Cohen and Love “Possibly our greatest interpreter of Dylan’s songs,” Barb Jungr returns with a brand new collection, “Forgetful Heart”, with love songs by Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. With "Forgetful Heart," Barb continues her love affair with the work of two of the most important songwriters of the 20th Century. Through the lockdown she has thought about love, and in particular the love songs of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, from their earliest explorations to their most recent recordings. In 2014, working with Simon Wallace, Barb released “Hard Rain,” laying herself bare to Dylan’s and Cohen’s political and philosophical songs. But “it’s now time for love,“ she says. “How to love more and with more freedom. How to love everyone and everything. How to be free of all the pettiness of life and elevate to the beauty and purity of love. And who better to turn to than Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, two of the greatest alchemists of love ever, in all of its wild wonder.” Working with her longstanding collaborator Jenny Carr, Barb will include Forgetful Heart, What Happens To The Heart, If You Gotta Go, Go Now, I’ve Made Up My Mind To Give Myself To You, and So Long Marianne, among more treasures. “possibly our greatest interpreter of Dylan’s songs” - Billy Bragg “Barb Jungr interprets [Dylan and Cohen’s] work with a ferocity and truthfulness that demolishes every cover version you’ve ever heard” - New York Times “Electrifying….the top rank of jazz singers. A true musical alchemist, she is truly a marvel, who should not be missed” - The Telegraph Barb Jungr is widely regarded as one of the greatest living interpreters of song; her work defies easy categorisation. From her early days with the Three Courgettes on Island Records, to recording for CBS Records in her studio in a bacon factory, through performances and tours worldwide, to current songwriting partnerships with Level 42’s Mike Lindup, Simon Wallace and rising jazz star Jamie Safir. Alongside her work as a theatre lyricist, and body of acclaimed work as a writer, lyricist and composer for children’s theatre, Jungr’s varied artistic output continues to gain admirers. With an enviable body of recorded work on prestigious labels such as Linn Records, Naim and Kristalyn Records, alongside contributions to many other recordings, she has also appeared as an arts critic on radio and television, and written extensively on songwriting and singing. www.barbjungr.co.uk NJR Music e: [email protected] t: 07848 741672.

  • Tell-Tale Signs - Edgar Allan Poe and Bob Dylan: Towards a Model of Intertextuality
ATLANTIS. Journal of the Spanish Association of Anglo-American Studies. 31.2 (December 2009): 41–56 ISSN 0210-6124 Tell-Tale Signs - Edgar Allan Poe and Bob Dylan: Towards a Model of Intertextuality Christopher Rollason Metz, France [email protected] This article shows how the poetry and prose of Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) cast a long shadow over the work of America’s greatest living songwriter, Bob Dylan (1941-). The work of both artists straddles the dividing-line between ‘high’ and ‘mass’ culture by pertaining to both: read through Poe, Dylan’s work may be seen as a significant manifestation of American Gothic. It is further suggested, in the context of nineteenth- century and contemporary debates on alleged ‘plagiarism’, that the textual strategy of ‘embedded’ quotation, as employed by both Poe and Dylan, points up the need today for an open and inclusive model of intertextuality.

  • The Twenty Greatest Music Concerts I've Ever Seen
THE TWENTY GREATEST MUSIC CONCERTS I'VE EVER SEEN Whew, I'm done. Let me remind everyone how this worked. I would go through my Ipod in that weird Ipod alphabetical order and when I would come upon an artist that I have seen live, I would replay that concert in my head. (BTW, since this segment started I no longer even have an ipod. All my music is on my laptop and phone now.) The number you see at the end of the concert description is the number of times I have seen that artist live. If it was multiple times, I would do my best to describe the one concert that I considered to be their best. If no number appears, it means I only saw that artist once. Mind you, I have seen many artists live that I do not have a song by on my Ipod. That artist is not represented here. So although the final number of concerts I have seen came to 828 concerts (wow, 828!), the number is actually higher. And there are "bar" bands and artists (like LeCompt and Sam Butera, for example) where I have seen them perform hundreds of sets, but I counted those as "one," although I have seen Lecompt in "concert" also. Any show you see with the four stars (****) means they came damn close to being one of the Top Twenty, but they fell just short. So here's the Twenty. Enjoy and thanks so much for all of your input. And don't sue me if I have a date wrong here and there.

  • Freewheelin-On-Line Take Fourteen
freewheelin-on-line take fourteen Freewheelin’ 212 I have to say that I remained a rear view passenger when it came to this month’s cover. The person who was in the driving seat, with both hands firmly on the wheel, was Phil Townsend of lazycarrot.com., and what a great collage of colour and images Phil has produced. It is of course the cover of the programme for The Third Annual John Green Day to be held at The Moat House Hotel, Northampton on the 17th May 2003. In keeping with the theme of the day, Phil has designed a ‘folkie’ type cover, the photograph coming straight from 1963 when Carolyn Hester’s hair was flowing long and Dylan’s mop was tucked under his corduroy cap. It is not Dylan’s cap that catches my eye in this picture however but rather his shirt, or to be more precise, his shirtsleeves. The young folkie clearly means business: his sleeves are rolled up to his elbows in a working man’s stance. Being an avid watcher of Dylan images, I tried to recall any official album covers where Dylan has his sleeves rolled up. Strangely the first image that came to mind was not of Dylan but was of the rail road worker with the pick axe who appears on the cover of ‘Slow Train Coming’. That was perhaps the obvious one, but then: ‘Down In The Groove’ is a proper roll up; ‘Street Legal’ looks a little rolled and ‘Empire Burlesque’ is a kind of a jacket and shirt half roll.

He awakes from his reveries by Paolo Cianerini, padre and proprietor of a small business in jewelry on Beluga Street south of The Holy Church of Mary and the Lamb, entering the lobby in a doctor’s gown, sunglasses and a stethoscope wrapped around his neck requesting asylum.
