Return to start, and this time move six spaces more slowly. (Go to bed earlier every night, and at least one hour earlier on Friday night.) Prepare any talks, meetings, programmes, that you may have to present, before Sabbath. After all, isn't that what is meant by preparation for holy time, so that the hours of rest may be spent that way—restfully? Allocate that time for prepara- tion early in the week, so that when the inevitable crises occur, it will not get squeezed back into Sabbath hours again with the excuse: "Oh well, it is for Sabbath anyway!" Allow time for "Alarums and Excursions." That is, leave some "holes" of blank time in your planning, so that when things pile up there is a space for them to overflow into, rather than allowing them to chop vital hours from one end or other of your sleep. LEE, Formerly Director of Stewardship and Develop- ment, Australasian Division THE ANNUAL WEEK OF PRAYER has now become known as the Family Week of Prayer, the reason being that each year there are two weeks of prayer in the Seventh-day Adventist Church—the Youth week and the regular. Some of the members were beginning to think that because the youth had their special week they did not need to participate in the annual Week of Prayer. This has never been the intention. On the contrary, the annual Week of Prayer is a time when the whole family of God, from babes in arms to our most senior citizens, can find refreshing in time set apart for fellowship with each other and our Creator God. Speaking of refreshing, this is what we all need constantly, isn't it? Our spiritual batteries need recharging. If this is your innermost desire, let me make two suggestions as to how this can best be accomplished. Firstly, covenant with God to give Him your time during this prayer week. You will need to cancel business plans, lay aside some of the secular reading you normally indulge in, cut out that television viewing which clashes with prayer time. Offer God a specific portion of your time each day for fellowship, study and prayer. Next, may I suggest you become deeply involved with the Lord and your church in the Annual Week of Sacrifice Offering on September 20. It has been our practice as a church to set as our goal for this special offering an amount equal to a week's wage. This can mean real sacrifice to many. But let me hasten to encourage you. The Lord has promised, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over. " Luke 6:38. "God planned the system of beneficence, in order that man might become like his Creator, benevolent and unselfish in character. "— "Counsels on Stewardship," page 15. And isn't that really what the Week of Prayer is all about—becoming more and more like our A Personal Commitment Creator? "When Christians are controlled by the principles of Heaven, they K. S. Have a nice Family Week of Prayer. ## We may not be able to identify or remember all the providences Heaven has sent our way, but we can be sure that our every need has not escaped the attention of our kind, heavenly Father. We are dependent upon Him for life, health and all the material blessings that are bestowed from day to day. In addition to all this, He offers us the gift of eternal life in a home of matchless beauty. During this week we might well ask with the psalmist, "What shall I render unto the Lord for all His benefits toward me?" Ps. 116:12. Our Lord does not expect payment for anything He has done for us. But He is interested in our acknowledgement and commitment. During this week of prayer and fellowship (September 13-20), we have an opportunity to renew our personal commitment to the Lord. Remember, we are not the Lord's unless we are such entirely. This includes our time, our talents and our possessions. In view of all the benefits and blessings that have come our way during the past year, what kind of a sacrificial commitment are we prepared to make? Will it be our very best? It would surely embarrass us to offer less. May our willingness to give on September 20 help to speed on the work of God to a glorious conclusion. ## OVERVIEW OF A HISTORIC MEETING

Dear Fellow Believers: As promised in a recent message in the RECORD, we are now providing you with a more detailed report on the proceedings and conclusions of the "Sanctuary Review Committee" which met in Colorado, U.S.A., from August 10 to 15 to consider certain doctrinal positions on the Sanctuary message and related areas and the role of Ellen White in doctrinal areas. The report which we are providing in this issue of the RECORD is identical to that which will be shared with the world church through the pages of the and other church papers. Dr. W. Johnsson, who has reported on the meeting, is a fellow Australian. He has held the position in recent years as Associate Dean of the Seminary, , U.S.A. He has now accepted a call to serve as Associate Editor of the Adventist Review. The materials provided in this report have been carefully scrutinised by a number of people who were present at the meeting, and we believe that it presents a clear, concise review of the proceedings as well as the conclusions reached. We commend the report to your careful prayerful reading. K. S. Parmenter.

Seeking After the Lord A. H. TOLHURST, President, Trans-Tasman Union Conference FROM MY EARLIEST YEARS, the Annual Week of Prayer has been special. As a child I considered it to be the high point in church life each year. There were the nightly devotional readings, and the seasons of prayer. And I well remember the preparations for the big sacrifice offering, and the solemn fasting, and heart-searching. "Hardly child's stuff," you may say. But the impressions have stayed with me, and I still believe that the Family Week of Prayer is, and should be, the high point in church life today. Children and youth can still be deeply impressed by those things that are meaningful to their parents. In the light of this, my appeal is to parents and adults, that you genuinely seek after the Lord at this time, with sincere desire to know Him better. Pray with your children that God will touch your hearts and theirs during this special week. And as a proof of your sincerity, let Jesus cleanse your hearts of all love for the world and its ways. May God richly bless this Week of Prayer to every Adventist family, is my sincere wish. ## Draw Near to God CLAUDE D. JUDD, President, Trans-Australian Union Conference THE ANNUAL WEEK OF PRAYER and Sacrifice affords every believer an opportunity to draw preciously near to God. "If we keep the Lord ever before us, allowing our hearts to go out in thanksgiving and praise to Him, we shall have a continual freshness in our religious life. Our prayers will take the form of a conversation with God as we would talk with a friend. He will speak His mysteries to us personally. Often there will come to us a sweet, joyful sense of the presence of Jesus. Often our hearts will burn within us as He draws nigh to commune with us as He did with Enoch. "—"Christ' s Object Lessons," page 129. I have often felt the sweet, joyful sense of the presence of Jesus during the Week of Prayer meetings. The special messages from chosen leaders around the world warm my heart and give me a sense of belonging in God's great family of believers on earth. It is also a privilege to give a sacrificial offering to help finish the work committed to the church. May this coming Week of Prayer and devotion cause our hearts to burn within us as we fellowship, study, and pray together for the outpouring of the latter rain and the finishing of God's work on earth, for the gospel work will not be finished "by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts." Zech. 4:6. ##
