The Marlins and Astros played to a 7-7 tie in their last meeting, TODAY’S PITCHING LINEUP March 5 at Roger Dean Stadium. Today’s game can be heard in English on MLB.com and in Spanish on WAQI 710 AM. RHP Scott Copeland LHP Jarlin García TODAY’S STARTING PITCHER: Right-hander Scott Copeland will make the start for Miami today, his first of the spring. In LHP Kelvin Marte two relief appearances this spring, Copeland has gone 1-0 with a 15.00 ERA (3.0 ip/5 er). RHP Junichi Tazawa LHP Hunter Cervenka LOOKING AHEAD: The Marlins will host the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow at Roger Dean Stadium at 1:05 p.m. It will be the fourth of seven meetings between the clubs. The last time the two clubs met was on March 7, when the host Cardinals defeated the Marlins, 9-2. Right-hander Tom Koehler is scheduled to make his third start (fourth appearance) of the spring tomorrow. YESTERDAY’S GAME: Miami’s offense could not generate enough runs to keep up with the visiting Minnesota Twins, suffering an 8-2 loss at Roger Dean Stadium. The Marlins jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on aJustin Bour RBI groundout, but the Twins quickly tied the game in the second and took the lead for good in the third. Miami’s final run came in the ninth on a solo home run by Brian Anderson. Wei-Yin Chen (0-1) suffered his first loss of the spring, allowing two runs on four hits (two home runs) and one walk, with three strikeouts, in 3.0 innings of work. TRANSACTIONS: The Marlins yesterday announced that RHP Jake Esch was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans and the following seven players were reassigned to Minor League camp: Cs Chris Hoo, Cam Maron and Rodrigo Vigil; LHPs Nick Maronde, Caleb Thielbar and Matt Tomshaw; and RHP Juan Benítez. CURRENT ROSTER: Miami has 55 players in Major League camp, including 39 members of the 40-man roster and 16 non-roster invitees. The roster con- sists of 28 pitchers (6 NRIs); 18 right-handers (four NRIs) and 10 left-handers (two NRIs). There are six catchers (two NRIs), 11 infielders (four NRIs) and 10 outfielders (four NRIs). WBC UPDATE: The Marlins announced last week that over 130,000 tickets have been sold for the six first-round World Baseball Classic games scheduled to take place at Marlins Park from March 9-12, and that tonight’s game between the Dominican Republic and United States has sold out. Marlins Park will play host to Pool C action between Canada, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and the United States. Games began on Thursday night with the Dominican Republic defeating Canada, 9-2, and continued last night with the United States defeating Colombia, 3-2, in walk-off fashion in the 10th in- ning. Games 3 & 4 will take place on today, with Canada hosting Colombia at 12 p.m. and the Dominican Republic hosting the U.S. at 6:30. Games 5 & 6 will take place tomorrow, March 12, with Colombia hosting the Dominican Republic at 12:30 p.m., and the U.S. hosting Canada at 7 p.m. If neces- sary, a tiebreaker game will be held on March 13 at 6 p.m. Tickets to the other three games of Pool C play are still available at www.marlins.com/WBC. PATRIOTIC DUTY: Five players in Major League camp with the Marlins are representing their native country at the World Baseball Classic this week. Outfielders Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich are playing for the United States; catcher A.J. Ellis was scheduled to join them, but withdrew due to a hamstring strain. Infielder Martín Prado is suiting up for Venezuela, starting pitcher Edinson Volquez is pitching for the Dominican Republic, and Tayron Guerrero is pitching for Colombia. ALL-STAR GAME COMES TO MIAMI: The Marlins will host the Midsummer Classic for the first time in club history when the Midsummer Classic comes to Marlins Park on July 11. All-Star week festivities will begin on July 7 and continue through the final weekend of the first half and into the All-Star break. FanFest will kick off at the Miami Beach Convention Center on July 7 and run through July 11; Marlins Park will host All-Star Sunday on July 9, featuring the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game and the All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game; the T-Mobile Home Run Derby will take place at Marlins Park on July 10; and the week will conclude with the 88th MLB All-Star Game on July 11. YOUR RADIO HOME FOR MARLINS’ BASEBALL: Once again in 2017 the Marlins home on the radio dial will be WINZ 940 AM, which will broadcast all 162 games in the regular season and 15 Spring Training contests. Hall of Fame broadcaster Dave Van Horne and Glenn Geffner will return to the broadcast booth for their 10th season together.
