    Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

    Issue 96 OCTOBER 21ST, 2020 Welcome to Copper #96! One thousand, three hundred and twenty-three days ago, the first issue of Copper came out. What you're now reading is, as stated, the ninety-sixth issue. That means that a new issue of Copper has appeared every 13.78 days, since the beginning. Astonishingly enough, that is precisely on schedule. Regulars know that Copper appears (as if by magic!!) every other Monday. Depending on which confusing and contradictory definition you choose, that makes the mag biweekly. Or bimonthly. Maybe both. Here's the reason for this drawn-out pedantry: I cannot think of another single thing in my life where I've managed to stick to a schedule, and deliver according to expectations, day after day, month after month...and year after year. For that reason alone, Copper is, to me, a miracle. Way back in the early spring of 2016, Paul McGowan came to me wearing the mischievous grin that I know means trouble. What he said, guaranteed trouble: "I want to do a magazine." After a few deep breaths, I began a panicked-but-reasoned analysis of why an actual old-school paper magazine was a fool's errand. He quickly clarified that it was to be an online mag, and I breathed a little easier. Until he told me it needed to be a weekly. As the structure came together, the weekly thing fell by the wayside; it was clear that every two weeks would be challenging enough, both for the staff, and for the readers.

    My Favorite World #3 Welcome back to MFW, a weekly feature that highlights the things that make this My. Favorite. World. The Music Supreme On Tuesday, December 9, 1964, the John Coltrane Quartet set up in Rudy Van Gelder’s recording studio in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. The music of that night stands with the greatest achievements of human creativity. A safe bet: if someone tells you they only own one or a couple or a few jazz recordings,A Love Supreme will be on her shelf. The album is emblematic of a transitional period in jazz from the be-bop/post-bop phase to the eruption of free jazz. It is an utterly radical departure from most of what came before and is also, incredibly, completely accessible to anyone willing to listen.<fn>Challenging, yes, but not forbiddingly so.</fn> You probably know all this already. Writing aboutA Love Supreme is akin to writing about Bach, The Great Gatsby, Shakespeare. It’s so famous, and so much has been said/written about it…I doubt that I have much to add. Ashley Kahn’s 2002 book, A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane’s Signature Album, provides deep detail about the sessions, the preparation, and Trane’s personal philosophy that drove the conception and composition. Go there for the history. Stay here for reflection of how this album, perhaps more than any other, made me realize that this is My. Favorite. World. I grew up on rock and roll, especially the blues based stuff. My early ambition as a hustling neighborhood lawn mower man was completely spurred by my desire to buy every album ever made.
