SE Group would like to thank all team members for their contributions and collaborative spirit throughout the planning process. In addition, SE Group would like to thank to the vendors who provided planning assistance, product specifications, product capabilities, and cost estimates. The time and effort of these individuals and their respective company is very much appreciated. The information was used to develop the Diamond Peak winter and summer concepts, provide input for the financial analysis, and guide the phasing for implementation of projects discussed in this master plan. INTRODUCTION PROJECT BACKGROUND The primary purpose of a Master Plan is to articulate the vision for future development, and provide Master Plan also incorporates the latest advances in ski area development and multi-season operations. Diamond Peak has a 47-year history of providing community-based winter recreation opportunities. Diamond Peak’s previous Master Plan was developed in 1986. Many of the improvements outlined in that plan have been implemented, including expansion of the upper mountain, establishing snowmaking on a number of trails, remodeling of the Base Lodge and building the new Skier Services and on-mountain maintenance facility. ABOUT US Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation began over 35 years ago. Orthopedic surgeon Chip Crothers, Les Otten, Charlie Stevens, and Charles Roscoe realized that people with disabilities didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy skiing. With some ingenuity they created adaptive pieces of equipment to help a young skier with cerebral palsy hit the slopes. Since that time, the program, equipment, and volunteers have continued to evolve, learn and grow. Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation now promotes year-round education and training for individuals with disabilities in order to develop skills, enhance independence, and provide enjoyment through active recreation. Maine Adaptive now provides over 3500 lessons year- round throughout the state of Maine, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay, thanks to the support of our community, including individuals, businesses, corporations, and foundations that help sustain our program operations and delivery each year. Maine’s boutique ski and snowboard builders By Scott Andrews Editor, Snow Trail When the popularity of skiing began to soar in the 1920s and 1930s, approximately half a dozen Maine firms manufactured skis, and our state was a significant factor on the equipment side of the nascent sport. In 1965 the largest and last of these firms abandoned the ski business. Half a century later there’s been a significant resurgence in ski building in Maine. Five firms are currently building top-tier skis — and snowboards too. All of these companies’ are tiny, selling fewer than 100 units per year. Most of these companies’ production facilities are squeezed into their owners’ basements and garages. Among these entrepreneurs, the passion for skiing and snowboarding runs high. Ditto pride in their products. But profits are slim to non-existent. “Made in Maine” is a cornerstone concept at the Ski Museum.
