About The Authors

The Pilgrims The Pilgrims were a religious group that originally came from England. The people of England had different beliefs than the Pilgrims. The people of England did not welcome the Pilgrims because they believed in something different. So the Pilgrims decided to leave England. They left on a ship called the Mayflower in 1620. The Mayflower usually carried wine and dried goods but on the trip to England it carried about 102 passengers. Nearly 40 of the passengers were known as the Separatists (they called themselves the "Saints".) The Separatists are now known as the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims were excited to find out what they would find in the New World.

When The Mayflower Arrived When the Pilgrims left England they sailed across the Atlantic Ocean. They found out there was going to be a big storm. Instead of settling in Virginia they settled in a land called Cape Cod. Then they set foot to an unknown land and named it Plymouth. When they settled they didn't know a lot about how to survive in the winter time. They had some help though by an Indian named . He taught them how to grow corn and how to fertilize the corn with fish.

Squanto Squanto was born in the late 1500's. His real name was Tisquantum but they called him Squanto. Squanto was a nice Indian and thought that there should be peace between the Indians and the Pilgrims. Squanto had been trading with a man named Thomas Hunt. One day Thomas asked Squanto and his friends to come aboard his ship and have a feast. Instead Thomas took them as captives. Luckily Squanto escaped and returned back to his home land again. He then taught the Pilgrims how to survive. Then the Pilgrims became friends with the Indians and decided that the Indians meant no harm.

3 Peace Between The Indians And Pilgrims After the Pilgrims found out that the Indians were no harm, they became very good friends and learned from each other. They taught each other everything that they knew from planting to building shelter. They became a very good team and worked well together.Squanto taught them how to hunt for food and that became very useful for the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims taught the Indians how to use guns and how to farm. They were excited to be friends and had a feast called the first Thanksgiving to celebrate all that they were thankful for.

4 The First Thanksgiving

The Pilgrims and the Indians got together and had a big feast. They called it the First Thanksgiving. The First Thanksgiving meal consisted of deer, corn, shellfish, roasted meat, and . They had a great time and had lots of fun. They talked and got along very well with each other.

Squanto died a year after the First Thanksgiving took place. The Pilgrims were glad they had had Squanto on their journey and they missed him.
