    Research Article Assessment of fluoride concentration in Palar River in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, India R. Pradeep Kumar1*, R. Priya1, Lakshmi Thangavelu2 ABSTRACT Back ground: River Palar is one of the most contaminated rivers of India due to various industries. Aim:To study the fluoride concentration in the Pallar river. Four river water samples were collected during the pre-monsoon season spanning over June 2015. Methodology: Fluoride levels were analyzed by standardized analytical method by the Chief Water Analyst, State Level Water Testing Laboratory, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, Government of Tamil Nadu, Chennai (ISO 9001–2000 - Certified). Result: In the present study, fluoride contents in all samples ranged between 0.18 and 0.22 mg/l, which are less than the optimum range of 1.5 mg/l, as recommended by the WHO. KEY WORDS: Fluoride, Palar River, Water quality INTRODUCTION of the global tanning factories are located in this state. Out of this, 449 units are located in the Vellore River water resources are highly essential for various district, particularly in the Palar basin (Upper Palar). domestic, agricultural, and industrial purposes.     DISTRICT WISE CLIMATE CHANGE INFORMATION FOR THE STATE OF TAMIL NADU TEMPERATURE PROJECTIONS FOR KANCHIPURAM 4.1 About Kanchipuram Kanchipuram district is situated on the northeast coast of Tamil Nadu. It is a temple city. It lies between 11° 00' to 12° 00' latitudes and 77° 28' to 78° 50' longitudes.1,2 The district has a total geographical area of 4,43,210 hectares and a Fig 4.1 Changes in Max. Temperature for 2020s, 2050s & 2080s coastline of 57 km. The Palar river is the most important river running through the district. Through most of the year it remains dry, attributed to the construction of dams across the river in Andhra Pradesh. In this study the thematic maps of Landuse / Landcover map, Road network maps (LISS IV) and Soil map has been prepared by using ArcGIS 9.2 software. The landuse / landcover map of 2003 & 2007 were analyzed and delineated the industrial area & built-up area. In the year 2003, the aerial extent for the SEZ in the study area is 1.2sq.km and it will be extended upto 1.4 sq.km in the year of 2007. The change detection is mostly acquired in Agriculture land & water bodies. The extended area was converted in to shape file format and imported into ExpertGPS software and validated by using Google Earth. During the validation 90% of data exactly merged with Google Earth features. The built-up area of expected Multi-storey building development in that region has been analyzed through GIS software. For increasing Multi-storey building the proportionate development of SEZ was delineated with considering popula- tion strength, Water Requirement and Sewage estimation at different FSI conditions.
